I want to say something about how pretty much everything mentioned was a video game, not a "computer" game... but I feel like everyone will say it doesn't matter.

I'll be bored till November. Then I'll be bored till Guildwars 2 is released

I find myself playing more indie games (Steam sells a lot of good ones) than these big blockbusters.

I think the main problem this gen is games being made too easy to appeal to a wider audience. Also COD and the likes of others aren't helping.

Its the mainstream that's gotten boring, The niche market is where I do my gaming. They mite not have the huge budget the so called great AAA titles have but at least they aren't afraid to innovate more.

That's a pretty misleading title.

Also I don't believe the video game industry is out of ideas. I just think big companies don't want to take risks on things that won't sell. Plus a successful franchise it like printing money. And no one wants to buck a trend when it's making them money. Video games can't be both and art and a business. They may be entertainment, but companies want to make money.

Now if Jenova Chen's upcoming game "Journey" were to make Modern Warfare 3 money, I think you'd see companies falling over themselves to back "the next big innovative title." But we don't live in that world. We may get an indie darling that blows minds ever year or two...but the industry is out of ideas because the industry doesn't want to innovate, it wants to make money on what ever works right now.

Computer games aren't boring... You can pretty much pick up any type of game on a pc and there is a community behind it. I am waiting patiently for when End of Nations releases, that game looks great and follows up another overlooked classic Shattered Galaxy.

Well PC games are bothersome due to the mouse and keyboard everyone seems to adore( I don't know why really) I hate mouse and keyboard. Those things are for typing and browsing. I love console games and controllers(yes i know you can hook up a pad to a pc). Console games ftw. Whatever, later.

I like my Falcom games, but it seems now they've been seduced by the charms of the PSP! However if that didn't happen, we wouldn't be getting their games at all lol

Nope, it's probably you getting old, you know. Aging takes away imagination in small portions until you come to the realization that everything around you feels a bit less entertaining. That's when you put the controller down and try to move on, just to grab it back and play more of those games that you don't even like anymore. Then comes the games like Deus Ex and hits you like a steel club, making you realize that you've never hated video games nor thought that they were not entertaining. Now isn't that a dilemma?

Certain things are boring in games this gen but overall, games are far from boring. Things like collecting flags or treasures are just tedious. Players being obsessed with achievements and completing tasks just for the sake of completing everything a game has to offer, whether its fun or not. For example, I loved GTA IV but shooting all the pigeons was tedious. Collecting treasures in UC is tedious. Collecting flags in Assassin's Creed is tedious. No skill or fun involved. What's the point? Collectibles in games are just a cheap way for developers to add hours to the game and make the player think the game is longer than it is. We need to stop completing such boring tasks to send a message to developers that we don't want such rubbish being used as filler in games. If few people have achievements for such mundane activities, it could send developers a message. There is a trophy in Infamous that requires the player to collect 350 shards spread around the map. In order to find them all, you would need a guide, a lot of patience and a lot of time to burn. You could be the best player in the world at Infamous but you can't platinum the game unless you collect all those shards. Should that be the case? Trophies should be unlocked by completing real challenges that are fun to attempt. I'm sick of collectibles in games and there should be none unless they're somehow fun to collect.

clearly if people NEED to mod them in order to have fun, just like console people mod there stuff in order to have fun they dont like it and find it boring

Speaking for the PC side of gaming I think things are just great and getting better all the time. Never a dull moment between the mods and a new MMO ever 5 minutes lots of excitement in PC computer gaming.

i think they are boring. i feel like i have played everything and now new games are just the same with different character models. i have bought way less games this year/last year than ever before

Pc is still the best platform in my opinion we need better innovative games not more military short campaign shooters

I have to agree with DarkSideRob who post a commit hours ago.

He stated that companies are not running out of ideas but they're too afraid in investing money in creating new gaming experience for us all; because of fear of not making a profit...I have to agree!!!

To add to his commit...I think what Gaming company do is sit on their butts and wait for another company to come out with a new game genre and it becomes a success in the gaming industry. Then the next company that has been observing from the get-go runs out to make a similar game.
This is becoming contagious from one company to the next which is why games not so different from the next.

For example: Mario came out which became a huge success and every other game developer try to make a clone. Sonic game out and every game developer out made a clone...Out came Aero the acrobat, Bugsy the bob cat, etc etc.

This has been going on for years and I don't ever see it coming to an end unless game developer realize this is the main cause why game are getting Boring.

Tell me again how the multiplatform strategy was supposed to fix everything. Look at your results and compare them to Nintendo, which keeps thriving with exclusives. Your loyal fans are gone. And let’s not forget the pile of IPs you purchased only to let them rot.

The worst thing is this is down from last years numbers/expectations which was down from the previous years numbers/expectations. You think about how long “down” has been a consistent part of the communication and you realize those subscriptions are what’s holding that boat together. The price cut of gamespass is still a price raise in a string of price raises. They are trying to use players to offset the missing revenue. Now call of duty is out of gamespass, which is literally WHY they bought the company. To draw people to the subscription. They realized they missed a boatload of money and that wasn’t sustainable. Now you pay for it like you would have if they never bought the company… so why buy the company? Mind you those billions still need to be paid back. Yeah it gives you a chance to say we make the biggest FPS… but the internal conversations must be brutal at high level on topics that really matter. Like revenue. Profitability. And ROI for the shopping spree.
