Mainstream games stuck in the past - Limbo dev

According to Playdead boss Dino Patti, mainstream games are guilty of getting “too acquainted with the past,” meaning fresh ideas aren’t as forthcoming as they could be.

Too acquainted with the past indeed - lucky thing we have Playdead making 2d side-scrollers with black and white visuals.

could not of said it better myself.

Haven't played the game personally but I like the art style of the game.

Gotta love this guy, and he has the right to say what he wants, Limbo is a brilliant game filled to the brim with originality, a true adventure I've never seen before.
It's the art style that gets to you when you first start, but then you realize that beyond visuals, the game sports a perfectly cohesive underbody of game mechanics that make movement fun and interesting. Combine that with awesome level and sound design, as well as a simple, effective story and you've got one of the best games I've played this generation.

.
So a black and white platform/puzzle game is the FUTURE...o_0...WoW...but it gets better...

" in bigger companies, the policy is to reduce risk, rather than take it. “Especially in bigger companies where de-risking is a big part of the individual’s agenda, it’s all about not going too far from the ‘safe zones’,” he said...

Soooo...making a little itty-bitty arcade game in black and white that revolves around platforming/puzzles is the " big " risk taker...lol...I didn't realize these mickey mouse, nothing more than expanded " apps " are the rebel risk takers of the industry. :/

These guys should go work for the equally delusional Ea_Dice and their " it's a next gen engine in the current gen " philosophy. It would be the perfect marriage...black and white destructible tree's ftw. ;D

you are quite illogical, which is quite remarkable considering the fact that you wrote so much.

Honestly, your "black and white is not the future" reeks of ignorance.
Hence your one bubble to show off to everyone, indicating that your views are solely to side with what's "cool to say".

I appreciate Limbo because it's different. With XNA and a 100 or so bucks, it's the obvious choice for an indie developer to get their game out there.

A game like Limbo wouldn't be top priority, nor given a top budget if it were to be developed/published by larger comapnies, as games like it fall into a very limited, "niche" crowd. That's what he was saying.
