What's Next For L.A. Noire?

It's been pretty well publicized that Rockstar Games has reportedly fallen out with L.A. Noire developer Team Bondi. However, given that both 2K Games and Team Bondi have expressed interest in a sequel, it certainly puts a follow-up to L.A. Noire, already a title so closely associated with Rockstar already, in an interesting position. Given L.A. Noire's massive success, a sequel is all but inevitable, but who actually MAKES the game is up in the air. It's not readily known who owns the rights to the franchise, so who takes the reigns of the sequel is anyone's guess.

Below, we list some possible directions the franchise can go in the future, with the most likely scenario at the top and decreasing likelihood as you go down. Note: this isn't another "What We Want in L.A. Noire 2" list, there are already enough of those. These are just possible ways how development of L.A. Noire 2 can proceed.

mods maybe later this year!

femshep5442d ago

hopefully nothing

or do the same idea in a different city

kamakaz3md5442d ago

the game was just to slow paced for me, not enough action, a simple rent was fine for me... but it had a good idea... just not my type of game, sadly cause im a huge rockstar fan, all well, ill be waiting for gta 5 : )

kamakaz3md5441d ago

and it was produced by rockstar... all rockstar games are similar if you havent noticed?

Raider695442d ago

Actually Team Bondi owns the IP and all the rights and not 2k or R*. And from what it seems they are already looking for a new publisher. The last option its actually the right one.

I'm sure there won't be any "L.A. Noire 2". I mean, who would want to see a sequel of this game in the same city during the same period? That's what the DLCs are already doing.
We'll probably see a similar detective game, a spiritual successor but not in L.A. and not during the 40-50's. Then I wonder what'll happen to yhe rights and IP in that case since they won't probably reuse the name, but the gameplay will be similar...

Also, Remedy went with Microsoft but it's still Rockstar who's developing Max Payne 3.

I was intrigued, so I verified and L.A. Noire is a registered trademark of Take Two.

Rockstar launches official marketplace for mods

Rockstar has launched an official marketplace for "every server and every player" to buy mods: Cfx Marketplace.

I wonder how much of this isn't just taken work of others who have modded for free.

Edit: Also, great way for R* to take popular ideas and build them into GTAVI based on demand.

fr0sty134d ago

What I see happening here is, R* is going to ban mods in GTA6 UNLESS you buy them from the marketplace and R* then gets a cut of that sale.

ActualWhiteMan134d ago

Ah, perfect timing with them taking down the Bully online fan mod. Greedy a$$ company.

Christopher134d ago

It's okay as long as they get a cut of the money.

fr0sty134d ago

Expect R* to force it on you.

Snookies12134d ago

Yep, right there with you. I'll happily donate to a mod creator if it looks really cool, or if I enjoy it. But expecting payment up front? Nope, not touching it.

IanTH134d ago (Edited 134d ago )

I'm not entirely sure how to read this, as it doesn't seem exactly like an exact parallel to Bethesda's paid mods shenanigans.

Rather than single player stuff, this appears to be aimed solely on Cfx Servers. From what I've gleaned, apparently Rockstar bought the Cfx mod team several years ago, coming a few years after weird contentions led them to ban a few of their members. Ultimately, the question is if they plan to keep this contained to only online/servers.

I have to guess to a degree yes. It'd be pretty hard to "force" paid mods for single player when modding files locally on your own machine, but much easier for servers they'll control. So perhaps this is their soft launch ahead of GTA6 online and they'll clamp down more tightly on non-official servers going forward? Ever since they've become a 1 or 2 property studio, I haven't really cared much for Rockstar stuff, so I'm not entirely up on everything surrounding this. Sounds like it has the potential to be problematic further down the line, but right now fairly easy to ignore...I think lol.

They were involved in protected Union activities and Rockstar will be in trouble with the NLRB.

DarXyde186d ago

You think this NLRB will lift a finger?

Ps5conehead185d ago

Watch the video this is in England

gerbintosh185d ago

Basically this is Rockstar vs the Union members word. These employees could be cherry picking or spoofing the chat logs.Rockstar could be lying. I will withhold judgment until Discord is subpoened and releases the chat group text from their servers.

Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser explains why open world spy game Agent never worked out

A rare interview from the former GTA and Red Dead Redemption writer and executive producer.

dveio209d ago

Interesting to know.

Among MGS4, Agent was the reason I wanted and bought a PS3. (Who knew we would get other gems like Killzone 2 and TLoU.)

I always assumed it got cancelled due to hardware restrictions even at that time.

Deeeeznuuuts209d ago

Such a shame, I remember first reading about it in official playstation magazine, Agent and The Getaway are the two cancelled games I wish I could play 😩

Christopher208d ago

Because it had to be open world, of course. Couldn't change that and make the Agent game work otherwise. Totally buying it.

Redgrave208d ago

I used to laugh whenever I'd see someone cite Agent as a game to look forward to, because it was never officially canceled (at least, as far as I've seen.)

"It's still real to me, dammit!"
