VGChartz Gap Charts, May 2011 Update

VGChartz - "Here we have three charts representative of the three main regions tracked by VGChartz, and a global chart which brings all of the data together. The line on each graph represents the gap in the install base (sales through to consumers), and the title indicates which console is in the lead in the particular region covered. Also included is an HD Vs. Wii Global Chart."

Great read as always. Very informative.

HarryMonogenis5432d ago

Wow, this is very interesting stuff.

BeardedGamerShow5432d ago

I keep wondering how long before that worldwide gap between PS3 and 360 slams shut.

swirldude5432d ago

Just in time for the next generation!

Redgehammer5432d ago

It doesn't seem like it will be anytime in the near future.

If you take hardware failure rate, rumors that MS were counting refurbs and units sold, full warranty replacement (stores that swap out broken units for brand new ones, which count those units and sold) and people like me that have purchased multiple 360 units (I purchased 360 8 myself and all gamers are know have purchased no less than 2)? The gap doesn't exist any more and hasn't for quite some time.

^That is the reality of it.

Jocosta5432d ago

Nope, not the reality of it my friend, its just what you wish for some odd reason.

8bit_Nes_Rambo5432d ago

No, Brutallyhonest is being..well, Brutallyhonest.

Boody-Bandit5432d ago (Edited 5432d ago )

No Jocosta what I said is reality. Deal with it. I have friends and family that work for major retailers and I know for a fact they count replacement warranties as sales. They are considered systems sold and there have been millions (I'm being modest) of failures.

Most of my friends have system replacement warranties with retailers and didn't rely on MS repair/refurb center.

Edit: A disagree in 1 minute under a dead article. I must've struck a nerve with someone. So sorry. I know reality is a hard pill to swallow. Try washing it down with a glass of milk.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle14d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

Crazy to think the WII is to the Switch 2, as the NES was to the WII back then. 20 Year difference.

jznrpg20d ago

My wife asks me to bust it out (heh) everyone once in a while to play bowling and tennis with the kids. There was a ton of slop on it but some good stuff as well.

Smellsforfree20d ago

Wii was great but boy howdy did it cause Microsoft to go on a dark walk with the Kinect and the disastrous XBox One launch that they arguably never recovered from.

Loktai20d ago

Not nostalgic for me.. I was there.. anyone who wasnt a little kid realized it was a gamecube with shit tacked onto it, it was the "joke" system and was well below even the switch in terms of comparing it to the latest machines at the time. The machine was well loved by young people and "casual gamers" who now remember it 20 years on, or in most cases more of its sales came in the 15-20 years ago range not right at launch- but again its not nostalgic for people who were "gamers" then really, just for those who ended up with one in their house, the games , graphics, interface and online features were archaic already in 2006.

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde21d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy22d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

DivineHand12521d ago (Edited 21d ago )

15 years went by so fast. I remember playing through the story mode at launch.
