Dust 514: Why You Should Care

SG - There was talk about this game at E3, but I think it may have gotten lost in the “new shooter” pile and overlooked by many. What is widely known is that it’s a first-person shooter, set in the Eve Online universe.

I totally care. That was one of the most exciting things at the E3 conference held by sony.

I liked MAG and I'm glad the additional details of this game share elements with it.

Hopefully they do it right, I'll be a day one.

evrfighter5462d ago

its pretty kewl to see something like this. I've thought about this concept before. different genres all connected to same world.

fps for a planetary invasion (dust 514)

flight sim for space combat assaulting or defending fleets (eve)

rts for massive planetary assaults that are too big to be played in fps

DarkTower8055462d ago (Edited 5462d ago )

I think this will be alot better than MAG. MAG was good, but far from polished. CCP has been in the game a long time and has a polished product with the Eve universe. If it translates well to the PS3, which I think it will, it could turn out to be an incredible experience.

firemassacre5462d ago

mag was so underrated i dont know why

Army_of_Darkness5462d ago

Cause mag sucked. Maybe it was too much killzone 3 and uncharted 2 that made it look like shit...

Godmars2905462d ago

It could set a new standard for MMOs? Create direct, plot driven, interactions between players.

When there was the possibility of it being on the 360 the first thing that came to mind was merc groups and clans set along the lines of the console war.

THC CELL5462d ago

First of all mag was zipper first attempt at fps, they release after call of duty and it turned out all the call of duty noobs could not handle mag. To be honest call of duty has ruin fps this gen and will continue till all the fans die off.

mag was awesome u needed a team not rambo. I deffo see mag 2 on the tables now and I will not be shocked if they zipper dont take on some other developers for help eg naughty dogs. Or even gg or sucker punch.

On topic dust 514 will inspire other developers to think about ps3 online games now and it will not shock me if we see more exclusives now.. Take note dice u can make cross games if u dont have to dumb down to xbox 360 fact

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies3777d ago (Edited 3777d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden3777d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave3777d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater3777d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace3777d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven3777d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater3777d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit3777d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
