On December 15th, Star Wars Galaxies will become one with the force and service will be discontinued. To be honest I would have bet it would have happened sooner what with the NGE scaring off many people. Somehow though, it stayed alive and I am sad to hear many a Star Wars and MMO fan will be homeless on this date. One has to wonder if this has something to do with Star Wars: The Old Republic coming out this year. Perhaps all the SWG players will migrate, which could be good and bad. Good, because it will be an entire player base coming over. Bad, because these people might be expecting more SWG.

Star Wars Galaxies was not just a sandbox MMO. It was one of the clearest examples of Star Wars becoming a world players could truly inhabit.

Star Wars Galaxies Restoration has set a new player record, with 2,516 unique accounts logging in and pushing the fan project to a new milestone.
Cool. But Star Wars Galaxies has already been playable for free for years on swglegends

Star Wars Galaxies Restoration is launching its Shatterpoint update with a revamped Galactic Civil War, new PvP systems, prestige progression, and dynamic sandbox gameplay.
Good riddance. This one has been slowly circling the drain for some time now.
I'm sure they're doing this to make way for SWTOR.
i was thinking that. It was such a great game before the NGE.
It's about time, honestly.
Must be painful for the few people that thoroughly enjoyed it.
