GRID PC servers closed down, Xbox 360 servers still going

Servers for Codemaster’s 2008 racer, GRID have been shut down, according to a report on MCV. The Xbox 360 servers will keep on running, but Codies have yanked the plug on PC and PS3 servers for the game.

thats a shame, GRID is a really fun game, wish they'd make a 2nd GRID

Kroganwrex5439d ago

Love how the title fails to mention the Ps3 servers going down too.

The community has found a work around by using Tunngle ( http://www.tunngle.net ), at least for the PC version. As far as I know PS3 users are SOL unless they use something like Xlink Kai.

Well thats the beauty of the PC platform. It has a lot more freedom. With console people are tied down by what the developer or console maker wants to do.

An example being Halo 2 on 360. It was very popular when MS took down XBL for xbox there was nothing Xbox gamers could do to play halo 2 online again.

@below

you still need a PC to make it happen. not like you can do it directly over console only.

xPhearR3dx5439d ago

Sorry but you're wrong. Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, PS3, PSP, and PC players can use Xlink Kai to play older games which no longer offer the online portion of the game. I use to use Xlink YEARS ago to play SOCOM 2 shortly after it was infested with cheaters using Codebreaker and all that crap. So no it's not the beauty of the PC platform, it's the beauty of software like Xlink which you can download on your PC to play all your old consoles games online again.

xPhearR3dx5439d ago (Edited 5439d ago )

I never said you didn't need a PC, but you're acting like if a game no longer offers online support on consoles, they can't do anything about it, which is exactly what you said:

"when MS took down XBL for xbox there was nothing Xbox gamers could do to play halo 2 online again."

Which is completely false since you can use Xlink to play Halo 2 online. You're speaking about Xlink like you know what it is, when really you have no idea, otherwise you wouldn't have made such a statement.

Every great journey eventually finds its finish line, and today, we announce that we've reached the end of the road working on WRC.

Knushwood Butt377d ago

'It marked the first time the studio had used the license in 18 years since 2022’s Colin McRae Rally 3.'

Can you not get AI to do proofreading?

TheColbertinator377d ago

Weird article written by a bot.

In any case I knew EA would ruin Codemasters.

Codemasters will likely close soon😞

Here’s the deal with this bullsh*t, and this is the single reason I f*cking hate digital, this wouldn’t be so much an issue if these people would give an announcement before they pull their games so people have a chance to get them before they’re gone. I mean, how hard is that to do?

Like, I prefer digital for the convenience of it and making me less of a hoarder, but stuff like this can drive me up the wall and I’m aware this also happens with physical games, but you can still acquire a game from eBay, though all scalped to hell, whereas digital you’re SOL… unless you have a PC.

spicelicka420d ago

Not to mention they also replace old base games with "bundles" back at full price. Some of the old and shittiest COD games are still full price on digital stores.

phatak420d ago (Edited 420d ago )

yup everything you said is correct, but with digital you can also acquire it lol thanks to piracy, thats what made me a pirate . Spec ops the line got delisted last year and I just pirated it and never looked back, unfortunately these bigger publishers dont care about older games so dont even give a reminder, so if they dont even care about their own older games, why should I help them with their new games, ill pirate those as well. GOG is the best, you dont even need to pirate those, the games literally dont have any drm, and you can keep the files permanently too.

Michiel1989420d ago

the reason why i hate digital is because in 20 years when the servers go down, you can't play single player games anymore because shitty fucking companies want you to login to some arbitrary service to pad the numbers.

When a company like GoG does better than a titan like Sony, you know how terrible the state of gaming is.

Vits420d ago

Technically you are not wrong, only forgot to add Rights Management after the "digital".

CantThinkOfAUsername420d ago

These games had exactly 0 players. If you haven't played any of them by now you really didn't care in the slightest. Suddenly you're dying to play one of these classic turds? Sail to cs.rin.ru.

MrWood420d ago

Your right, if you click on the article vs the clickbait picture showing new and modern games, they are all old games I’ve never even heard of.

Zeke68419d ago

If you never heard of any of these games, are you even a gamer? ;)

Report: F1 24 Cover Datamined From F1 23 Files as Website Surfaces

The F1 24 announcement seems imminent, as the Champions Edition cover and details have surfaced in F1 23's game files after the latest patch.

Yi-Long804d ago

To Sony, and so many other companies in this industry, the short-term satisfaction and happiness of their shareholders means so much more to them than their employees, their products, and their customers.

Yi-Long804d ago

Apologies, don't know how the above comment ended up here while it clearly should have gone to other article about the Sony lay-offs. Please delete.
