*holds Folklore and both Genji games close and cries*

Evildoomnerd5445d ago (Edited 5445d ago )

Sadly, this has happend way too often this gen. We can only wish them the best.

Lord_Sloth5445d ago

But why not get rid of 1 of the expendable teams just just make the same cookie cutter gun games over and over again? WE'RE KILLING THE IMAGINATION!

Evildoomnerd5445d ago (Edited 5445d ago )

Unfortunately, in many cases, niche games like Maijin take a backseat over shooters. It boils down to what the masses want and what will most likely make a buck for publishers. But in all fairness, making a pretty bad FPS will also tank a studio.

SilentNegotiator5445d ago

I can't believe I'm perusing a career in game design. Someone must be filling my coffee with shrooms.

Lord_Sloth5445d ago

SilentNegotiator, I'm started up a bedroom dev studio to try and keep imagination in the industry alive. You make sure to try the same thing! Or move to Douglasville and join my cause.

TheLastGuardian20105445d ago

And people still want to rush into the next gen. Christ, look here people. People will lose there jobs even MORE SO. Middle class gaming is almost extinct. Games like Folk Lore, or Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom can't co exsist anymore. It's now AAA, with guns ablazing, or go home.

ReservoirDog3165445d ago

Yeah that's what I always said. Everyone can say they want newer shinier consoles that push even better graphics but so many studios can't even keep up with the cost with apparently "old" technology like the 360 and PS3.

It's never good when people lose their jobs.

*Hold all three games and cries with you*

I hate it when the small studios close down. They are always the ones that are willing to take chances with their games ironically.

pain777pas5445d ago

Note to small studios the Vita and 3DS are viable options for great games. I don't understand why they don't follow dev teams like Level 5 and the scribblenauts guys. You can make games for many platforms. Majin would have done well on a portable because it would have been so unique and stand out. The graphical fidelity may not be what they envisioned but it may keep them employed. Sad news. Folklore was a really cool concept and excellent execution on all fronts.

GrandTheftZamboni5445d ago

I'm glad someone else liked Genji. I played Days of the Blade and loved it. I can't believe the ridicule the game received from the media, just because they "dared" put a fictious giant crab in it. I'm starting to think that the western media is just an advertisement outlet for western games and/or consoles.

ReservoirDog3165445d ago

Well they made fun of it cause they were saying it was based on history and they were using actual battles that actually took place in recreations of they actual battle locations. And then the crab comes out.

It just stood out as conflicting after saying it was based on history. Nothing wrong with it, it just stood out.

Anyways, poor guys. Hope the workers got absorbed in some other company.

GrandTheftZamboni5445d ago

@ReservoirDog316

I got what you're saying. I still think that games are a medium that shouldn't be discouraged to mix reality and fantasy.
Magic crystals, changing characters, dying over and over again are not real or possible either, but are allowed in games regardless of how realistic they try to be. Dragons are kind of okay but crabs are not. Besides, until recently giant squids were believed to be fictious too, so giant crabs could be real after all. I just like crabs...

ReservoirDog3165445d ago

Haha, yeah I know. In any medium, it's alright to do anything you want if it fits. I don't mind.

There's a time and place for anything. Especially if it's a just fun game.

Lord_Sloth5444d ago

Oh, hell yeah. I adored both Genji titles. I purchased the 1st because I love Sword based Action titles and I adore Samurai and Japanese Culture.

The sequel was the 1st game I purchased with my PS3. Best Buy had a sale on it for $25 and it was all I could afford since my PS3 was still $500. It was an amazing graphical showcase and kept me well entertained.

How are we gunna have games to play if this keeps happen all the time...??!!

Jack-Dangerously5445d ago

Every month or so someone else is getting shut down. I mean, obviously there will still be video games. But I imagine it becoming more like the film industry with the sad lack of Indie films.

I liked Folklore quite a bit. I don't like too many mainstream(for lack of a better word) games.

rezzah5445d ago

Dont worry at least you will have COD to fall back on....

?

Shang-Long5445d ago

Dogswithguns5445d ago
