This is actually ridiculous. The guy did nothing wrong. After all, many reviews WERE really venomous and the fact that he recognized them as such and did not want to do business with them anywhere is a sign of integrity. Yes, he should have talked to those people privately before sending out a tweet. That is a sign that he handled the situation wrongly. But tearing the guy down and making vile articles of your own (yes, ArsTechnica, you) is not appropriate either.

Reviews are not supposed to be walls of text full of bashing or simple opinions. It's all about objective description and constructive criticism. Going apeshit insane on a review, cursing and mocking a game shows the big lack of professionalism of the writer.

In fact, journalism is not supposed to be about opinions at all. It's all about beeing honest, neutral and objective.

This is a really well-written piece. It is very disappointing, but not unexpected, that The Redner Group was fired. 2K needed to distance themselves not from the tweet heard round the gaming world, but the backlash and misinterpretation.

Some of the reviews for Duke are absurd. An F from 1up? Ars crapping on anyone who actually *did* like the game? Yeah, those aren't journalistic takes, they are cries for site hits. I've read tons of reviews of broken games on these sites and neither were as hard on those miserable titles as they were on Duke.

It's a shame that being called out like that just gave them more fuel for their brand of "journalism."

We'll have to let this guy lecture all the book, art, movie, fashion, music, and drama critics out there on how "journalism" supposedly works without venom in the review process. No doubt they've all been doing it wrong for a couple of centuries now and he's just the idiot to straighten them up with his "knowledge" of the field.

Everyone as opinions and most of them are childish to bad for them im having alot of fun with the game and that´s what all matters.

Im pretty sure the next Gearbox fully made Duke Nukem is gonna be more acceptable for the masses.

This game is a guilty pleasure.

As usual it's a story of one egomaniac that chased perfection to near bankruptcy trying to follow industry trends and engines instead of just putting out a good albeit flawed game in 2001. It had to be the best and ended up as the most average game I've ever played which felt heavily dated on day 1

A big middle finger from the past to all the woke culture, we miss you Duke.

It took forever so I doubt it can be since it took so long. Even an AAA game in development hell that takes long will look and play pretty dated 90% of the time. The toolset and options with the lighting makes it better, but the gameplay was just meh.

Game is garbage. Realistic Ness destroys a game like this Duke can only hold two guns what a joke. I’d rather wash 2001 Duke Newcomb Forever trailer then play this game again. It’s a shame I’ve been waiting for duke nukem forever 2001 for a long time they should’ve just released it and not worried about having the latest game engine and just did their thing

DKF is the worst shooter I've ever played. The only thing it was "ahead of it's time" in was being released as a complete craptastic disappointment that wasn't worth the hype or the wait.

I actually did enjoyed the game for a bit. I got it in a sale for like $5. It has some fun moments. I would encourage trying it out.

If they just released the original build the series might still be relevant today.

But of course, the lead designer/project lead had to be pretentious and think he was the god of the games industry of the time.
