PSLS: Twisted Metal – E3 Preview

PSLS writes: "Twisted Metal was one of the most surprising appearances of E3 last year. After years of keeping its existence secret, Eat Sleep Play arrived in spectacular fashion, showing off one of the most classic and identifiable games in PlayStation history on Sony’s latest hardware. It was arguably one of the most entertaining games on the show floor, and with another 12 months of development between then and now, what more does it offer?"

I absolutely love the Twisted Metal series, I cannot wait till the game is released.

BigWoopMagazine5375d ago

This was really fun, I had to laugh when I was dragging the enemy leader behind me by a chain. The Sweet Tooth robot was insane too... I just hope the controls are adjustable in the final release, square to accelerate and X to quick turn confused the hell outta me.

I think this lets you know how I feel.

I never understood Twisted Metal. Even when I was young and the thing came out for PSX I never could get into it. I always thought it was immature and character design was non existent as it seemed to follow some weird patchwork. Jaffe vision never really got through to me.

Black came with my PS2 if I remember correctly or was bundled with something and I remember playing that and actually liking it a bit. It felt like quake, but with cars, and had the same sort of pacing that and FPS had, but again, it dropped off my radar.

This game though, I don't know what it is. If its the dev diaries that I've been watching or listening to some of Jaffe's spiels about the game, or if its simply a more "realistic" aesthetic...but I'm totally hyped for this game. Mind you I still don't like things like that double wheel bike/vehicle, that just seems ridiculous (I know how can something seem ridiculous while at the same time having cars change into giant robots).

I'm very much looking forward to this and hope there is a demo.

edit: oh and that trailer...she's the only one that got away, she NEEDS to be cut... <--that's cool/freaky sh*t

Wow cyberpunk is a great pick up. If you haven’t played it you should definitely give it a try

Christopher232d ago

Banishers was dragged down by the need to go back to old areas multiple times.

GhostScholar233d ago

Also if you bought it at launch and couldn’t deal with all the bugs it’s a totally different game now

stupidusername233d ago

Played it on release and thought it was a mess. But I'm currently playing it again now on both PS5 and Switch 2 with cross save progression, and it's really different to how I remember it. Really enjoying it now, and it's really polished and immersive.

Despite owning the 2077 One X console and the steelbook edition of the game... i still have never played it. I may actually give 2077 a try (via the portal) as there has been so much talk about it again, thanks to SW2 and now this comparison vid from DF. https://youtu.be/SvGQik3m6a...

dveio233d ago (Edited 233d ago )

I think it's an okay decision or happening.

iirc, wasn't there even a new and probably last update coming soon announced recently?

I've never played 2077, neither. (I am still a bit mad about their ... well, anyway.)

But I think it can't get better to play that game, or any game for that matter, in a 100% complete, fully updated build.

DivineHand125233d ago

Cyberpunk and Risk of rain 2 are the best of the bunch. Not a bad month if you are one of the few that haven't played those games.

yeastori233d ago

Cyberpunk is probably one of the best games I've ever played, even when it came out with all the bugs and glitches and broken gameplay on consoles, I still loved it at its core because the world was exactly what I wanted in a dystopian vision of the real future and the story was actually well done and compelling. With the fixes and then Phantom Liberty I just knew that this game could've been GOTY winner if it hadn't been released too early and released on PS5. XBX and two years later.

shinXseijuro233d ago

Might give cyberpunk a chance now that the game redeemed itself . Is it only the basic game or with the newer content ?

xHeavYx233d ago

According to the article, it's just the base game, but the DLC will be 30% off

TM3 is my favorite but I'll take what they bring out gladly. Fun times back in the day and great soundtracks

Cacabunga515d ago

Last one on ps4 wasn’t good at all.
Hoping for some good reboot or remake of the first 3

Dagexon515d ago

You mean the one on ps3?

Cacabunga514d ago

Yes i do, thanks! I realized too late couldn’t edit

Lego 2K Drive features an exciting mode called Brick Brawl, inspired by Twisted Metal. Players can create, share, and upload various cars, including ones like Sweet Tooth. The game boasts thousands of custom cars, ranging from the Batmobile to the Sweet Tooth ice cream truck.

InUrFoxHole515d ago

Never understood the like for the series. Not my bag but I know a lot of gamers are clamoring for a new game and liked the TV. Series

TiredGamer515d ago (Edited 515d ago )

TM1 and 2 are time period classics. They were a bit rough, ugly, and grungy, but they felt right during the time period they were released and they scratched that early console “death match” itch before FPS games would completely swallow that market.

Many great memories with friends playing couch co-op and 1v1. Short, and quick-and-dirty gameplay that we returned to over and over. I’d buy a remake or proper remastering of the first two games day one.

InUrFoxHole515d ago

Lol, nice! I remember having the tiger handheld or watch..

FinalFantasyFanatic514d ago

I played those so much as I kid, I bought the Twisted Metal games that were on PSN as Playstation Classics, wow, they feel clunky by today's standards, they could really use the remake/remaster treatment.

UltimateOwnage515d ago

Twisted Metal: Black is when the series really hit for me. I still love that game so much. It was kind of downhill for the series after that IMO. I'd love to see the series go back to its roots, but I don't hold out a lot of hope for David Jaffe coming back from where he is these days to oversee development of a competent sequel.

Snookies12515d ago

Black was the pinnacle in my opinion. I adored TM1 and TM2, for sure. But Black brought it to a whole new level of awesome.
