Spencer: Next Alan Wake project hasn’t been greenlit by Microsoft

Microsoft Studios head Phil Spencer has told Joystiq the new Alan Wake project from Remedy hasn’t been greenlit by the group.

Remedy announced a new Wake title was in development last month, but wasn’t a full sequel to Alan Wake 2 or DLC for Alan Wake 1, which Spencer said “didn’t sell as well as we would have liked.”

Screw them for not "Green lighting" it, i love the previous game and cannot wait to hear more Info on the upcoming Alan Wake game.

It's weird, they know they don't have much Games to please the Core Gamers, And the ones they have, they don't want to show them. YET!

AnttiApina5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

But on the other hand, Remedy has confirmed to be developing more Alan Wake.

It could mean that they're seeking new publishers.

shikamaroooo5470d ago

I reckon EA may publish it if MS doesnt

Sinkway5470d ago

imo i think your right. But didn't MS throw a lot of money towards Alan Wake? Its sad because it sounds like MS are letting another awesome title slip through their hands. Remedy deserves it to be a multiplatform anyway its an amazing game!

Thecraft19895469d ago (Edited 5469d ago )

Sinkway It would not be surprise me MS where expecting the game to gain massive fan base it did not to MS standards.

I myself liked the game but for a person who followed it for 5-6 years it did not turn out to be the game remedy promised.

TheDivine5469d ago

Ms acually fund alot of titles its just that they dont sell too well. They pumped tons of cash into too human, alan wake, blue dragon, lost odyssey, kameo and others only to sell under a mil of most. The sad thing is every game i listed i really liked and hadpotential to be HUGE ip's. The first game doesnt need to sell 5 mil, it will pick up fans over time if you make the next bigger and better. Alan Wake was one of the best games ive ever played so it wil see a sequal ms or not.

Aw, come on ms...
Give your developers a little more freedom.

Inside_out5469d ago (Edited 5469d ago )

.
There is definitely some bad blood there. M$ lost a small fortune on Alan wake.

I really enjoyed AW and it is one of the best games I've played this gen but I believe M$ and in particular Steve Ballmer wants a better deal from Remedy for the next title...if they get any at all.

I think AW was the straw that broke Robbie Bach's ( Ex prez of gaming ) back and lead to his removal right before E3 last year. Waiting 5+ years for the game, making a small TV mini-series for the title and it went nowhere, at least according to M$ standards which I believe they were mislead on.

I like Remedy but hiding up in the mountains for 5 years while milking M$ and then barely squeak out a million is not what M$ had envisioned and I believe they (M$ ) rightly or wrongly, feel cheated. Remedy has come out ( in the press ) and said that they could have the title out in 18 months comparing it to their last franchise ( Max Payne ) but I believe M$ wants, if at all, the title to be based on sales.

I suspect they will get it done but maybe Remedy's next title will be a multi-plat.

You have a home with Sony.

YodaCracker5469d ago

Yep, Alan Wake is a crap game because it's exclusive to Xbox 360. But the second it comes to the PS3, it will instantly be a brilliant franchise.

NinjaSp33d5469d ago

It be lucky to sell 500,000 copies on Ps3;)

TheEatingChampagne5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

LOL they will green light it just give them some time.. This article shouldn't have been made

Eiffel5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Hopefully for the sequel we don't see a cartoonified avatar Alex running around with his flashlight on rails for Kinect. Not liking where Microsoft is heading...

Why o why5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

yep, you must be a little peeved.

@ the direction MS are heading i mean

SixShotCop5469d ago

I would be so freaking pissed if the next Alan Wake was Kinect only.

Alan Wake 2's Upgraded PSSR Delivers A Vast Improvement

DF: "Alan Wake 2 is one of our games of the generation - a proper technical showcase - but with the arrival of Sony's upgraded PSSR upscaler, it's also a key proving ground for the capabilities of the revised technology. In its 60fps performance mode, the game's complex foliage, dense geometry and demanding lighting are paired with an internal 864p resolution, upscaled to 4K. It's a challenge that the original PSSR couldn't handle, sometimes comparing unfavourably with the original FSR2. However, the upgraded PSSR is a revelation by comparison."

I've already completed this game and everything else there is to do in it sadly, so I have no need to go back and enjoy the added enhancements that the new PSSR brings to this game. But I definitely want to go back and check out Control as I still haven't finished up all the DLC for that yet.

Ashunderfire8672d ago

O definitely do Control is a longer game than Alan Wake 2! Plus there is an Alan Wake tie in with Control, plus you face off against a scary boss! That guy was hard asf man.

Jesse Faden the main character, has so many upgrades to her movesets, and object of power gun. Playing this game now to prepare for Control Resonant.

Cacabunga72d ago (Edited 72d ago )

It’s a terrible and boring game.
No way I will ever go back to it . I really do not like Remedy’s touch

Kornholic72d ago

Sadly? You mean you can't replay a game just for the fun of it?

Neonridr72d ago

I've played through the game numerous times. It was my favorite game of 2023. I have so many other games to play. Could I go back and play it for a few minutes to appreciate some extra clarity in the distance? Sure. Would I rather play a game I haven't finished or played yet and enjoy the PSSR updates brought to those titles instead? Yes.

isarai_lee72d ago

I mean im kinda with Neonridr on this, like when i game is so good you get everything you can out of it, a slightly shaper image is cool but not worth the hassle of install/update etc

andy8573d ago (Edited 73d ago )

It's mad they can take a 864p image and make it close to a 4K image. This tech is gonna do so much for console gaming

fr0sty72d ago (Edited 72d ago )

the crazier part is, sometimes enabling this kind of AI upscaling tech actually produces a BETTER image than natively rendering at 4K (and to be clear, I'm not talking about DLSS5's AI slop that takes creativity away from the game developers).

isarai_lee72d ago

That's just outright not true

andy8572d ago

Dunno why you're getting downvotes there is actually instances of this happening. Stellar Blade being one of them. DF reported the PSSR mode looks better than the native 4K mode. Im assuming its PSSR from 1440p or higher. So imagine with the 2.0 update

__y2jb72d ago

Strange that the other story on the frontpage with AI upscaling involved is receiving a hugely negative response in the comments but a Playstation AI upscaler story...well that's just great!

isarai_lee72d ago

No it's still bad, just not nearly as egregious, but there's definitely a sizeable (and growing) group of gamers who dislike any TAA/DLSS/AI upscale in general, myself included. Every time there's some update to one of these upscaling methods I roll my eyes because only when we improve from the issues can we address the issues, but when talking outside of an improvement or update suddenly there's no issues and we're The crazy ones for criticizing AI upscaling

andy8572d ago

That's because one is changing the art (characters faces) and one is making things look sharper. Isnt because it's PlayStation.

mkis00778d ago

Such a weird post by them. Apparently they just mean the system wide toggle. Which is perfectly fine. This is based off a post they made after this post.

Eonjay78d ago

Not sure what's weird about that. The update being system wide is basically free marketing for any game using the tech. I assume they already have access to the update and are happy with the results.

mkis00777d ago

Its Just the wording, as they didnt have to do any work for it to be supported.

jznrpg78d ago

Why is it weird for a dev to let people know their game runs better now? If they didn’t mention it that would be weird

mkis00777d ago

I just mean they worded it like they did a custom thing...which they could do by tweaking base resolution if the upgraded pssr allows it with no image drawbacks. I'd be down for that.
