What was once a highly-regarded third-party studio has all but completely disappeared from the public view.

Gregg Mayles writes: "Today was my last day at Rare Ltd. Thanks to everyone who played and enjoyed any of the games I helped create while I was there. Also thanks to all the people that worked on the games alongside me. It seemed fitting that I should say farewell with one final rhyme!"
Godspeed for the rest of your journey, sir. Loved BK. I think I'll play it this weekend to show my appreciation for this classic.

Louise O’Connor, a 25-year Rare veteran, has been made Xbox Game Studios’ Chief of Staff.
Not to offend anyone. But what was Rare doing with Everwild for so many years? Development began in 2014, with a reveal in 2019. From 2019 onwards nothing was about the game.
"Notably, O’Connor’s boss of 13 years, former Rare studio head Craig Duncan, was appointed head of Xbox Game Studios last year."
Hiring internal talent from Rare worked out so well last time.

2025 marks the 40th ‘Ruby’ Anniversary of that bold endeavour, and Rare’s inviting everyone to join the celebration of this impressive milestone, offering free gifts, discounts and plenty of swag to claim in their shared-world pirate adventure, Sea of Thieves.
It's a shame it seems pretty Sea of Thieves centric
I was hoping for some cool Banjo / Conker merch or maybe a re-release of Rare Relay with some added games, possibly work something out with Nintendo so they can add Goldeneye to it with online support.
Making crappy kinect crap come on M$ let rare make another KI so i can finally turn on my 360.
Edit:If M$ is not gonna use them to their full potential sell them to another one that will *cough Nintendo,Sony cough*.
What do 360 fans want
Killer instinct or kinect sports 2 or whatever kinect game they're developing
Ideally both games could be resourced but thats not happening is it. Im sure ms are pushing them to support kinect. Good for kinect, not so good for those expecting a ki announcement
.
Rare is very busy with several projects but the question is why didn't they show anything...even for 2012...Hmmmm...the plot thickens for 2012.
There was a lot of stuff omitted from the show. It was a full press conference but no mention of Skype who you just paid 8.5 BILLION dollars for, Windows phone 7, Windows 8 and it seemed like the only thing for 2012 was Fable and Halo 4.
Rare is nothing now compared to the "old" N64\snes rare
thank god there's RETRO STUDIOS, im playing donkey kong country returns for wii and it's awesome, I never thought i can play good donkey kong game ever again and it just happened, hoping for a sequel on WIIU
RETROSTUDIOS are talented, reviving and reinventing metroid and bringing back DK, both amazing games on an outdated system(wii) speaks for something
Hasn't Rare been gutted over the years? I think they are just Rare in name, not talent. Most of the talent is elsewhere starting new studios or absorbed in existing studios.
