iD cautious over Wii U development

Eurogamer: "While Nintendo seems to have persuaded a number of third party developers to bring their titles over to the Wii U next year, it seems FPS veterans id Software won't be among them.

Speaking to Eurogamer backstage at E3 today, the Rage studio's creative director Tim Willits expressed doubt that they'll be a big enough audience for a core shooter on Nintendo's new system.

"The Nintendo market is a tough market for us to get into," he explained. "A lot of first party games, a lot of licensed games – those are the ones that have done the best on that platform. I'd love it if we can get a hardcore FPS community going and build on it, but it's tough."

Everyone should be cautious of Wii U development.

It's a gimmick. And no, I didn't think the Wiimote was a gimmick. I love the Wii. Having a screen (one per console) controller is a gimmick that serves very little gameplay purpose. At best, we will get minor integration in multiplat games like Kinect in Mass Effect 3.

Pay attention: most of the "awesome multiplats" on Wii U are simply ports of games coming out this year including Battlefield 3 and Arkham City. Anyone else notice that? Wii U is launching with sloppy seconds. Noooot a good way to start things off.

They still have another E3 beforehand. I know the game is called Rage, but keep yours in check.

MintBerryCrunch5378d ago

the only problem i see with it is if both your TV and the controller are showing gameplay at the same time, i would be confused as hell at which one i should be looking at

L6RD7BLU35378d ago

Rage looks like Borderlands to me so MEH.

Arnon5378d ago

What's to be confused about? It's the same thing...

Theyellowflash305378d ago

Wow This is a gimmick even though it has a full array of button and 1080p graphics. And I think your being really quick to judge the games coming out. Developers have confirmed there will be exclusive content and "NON Gimmicky" Controls and content in Darksiders 2 for Wii U.

- Your way to fast to judge. Developers are of course going to port over franchises but expect the Wii U to get original games too. Were so far away from launch we will get more devs working on original games for Wii U's launch. Don't be so damn naive to think there aren't more game announcements coming in the future.

EYEamNUMBER15378d ago

wii u isn't launching with anything heck wii u isn't launching at all they haven't even actually revealed the system yet

you sound like the people that said rumble was a gimmick touchscreens were a gimmick motion controls were a gimmick i can go on and on
every new thing is a gimmick from what ive seen that doesn't mean they are or can't be good

as for ID i take what they say lightly considering john carmack said the 360 was the most powerful system out

L6RD7BLU35378d ago

I guess the Sega Dreamcast VMU was a Gimmick better yet! PS Move is a gimmick, Microsoft's Kinect is a gimmick so yeah P_P...

fatstarr5378d ago

imo that conference told me that nintendo was getting full support from ea they have a year or so to dev titles.

i think battle field 3 will be a port over

but i think the next batman game will go there
and all the sports games will be that years sport game
and etc.
its debatable but some devs said you can use multiple wiiu-tablettrollers.

its not a gimmick its an innovation in game play

how would you have reacted if the wii-u had come out with a boring regular controller with all the motion stuff in the wii... what would you be saying now.

bigjclassic5378d ago

not be on Wii U then you are delusional. Devs like money, and now that another HD console is out devs will port games on it to make a buck.

StarCSR5377d ago

Can you point me to the article which gives out the entire list of launchgames? I see you saying "Wii U is launching with sloppy seconds", so I assume you HAVE such a source.

This article is loaded with half-truths. The REAL problem is that ID Software spent the last 5 years PUBLICLY ripping the Wii to shreds and have burned bridges with Nintendo.

L6RD7BLU35378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

not just ID just about everybody, people need to respect the elder of gaming

fatstarr5378d ago

Yes man seems lots of devs burned the bridge with the wii and nintendo last gen and thats where a majority of this hate is coming from.

anything nintendo does is criticized more than if another company did it and its starting to piss me off.

neogeo5378d ago

Its a gimmick all the way to the bank.

I can't wait to get that new Zelda gimmick that runs 1080p@60fps on a 25 gig disk. I will also miss needing to pause zelda 100000 times to see the map screen when I can have it live on my new gimmick controller.

tunaks15378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

you don't need a screen on the controller to solve that, skyward sword has item changing on the fly, im sure a map wouldn't be too different

SpLinT5378d ago (Edited 5378d ago )

iD will come once devs like Ubisoft and EA show that nintendo fans also enjoy some FPS action. Just not crap like generic COD

Zanarkand5378d ago

Good for you ID. Now release Doom 4 or give me death.

I hope the devs can break away from MS and take their IP's with them in the not to distant future. This entire consolidation and mass industry firings that MS has spearheaded has been nothing but a disaster for everyone except the already rich creatively bankrupt tw@ts at Microsoft.

MS is nothing but a drain on the entire gaming industry and every facet of it.

1Victor76d ago

There is precedent already with bungie separating from Microsoft but I doubt Microsoft will let them go out with their IP’s without paying a huge price

Reaper22_76d ago

Good for them. From what I hear Microsoft supports it but unfortunately it still doesnt change much but its a step in the right direction. More devs across the entire industry should do this. But regardless, you just love to hate anything Microsoft or xbox. Who's fault is it that sony closed down studios? Who spearheaded that? What i don't understand is that if you hate Microsoft so much why the concern. If this bothers you so much you may want to find another hobby. Free up some of that mental energy for your own well being and stop worrying about shit you cant change.

@FlaggerD care to look at yourself in the mirror, obscure? It's like your 132456th account now, and all of them have you being obsessed with Sony. You just can't handle the fact they literally stomped on Xbox, LMAO! Juggernaut my ass haha. Xbots claiming Expedition 33 winning GotY is a win for Xbox because it was on Game pass is the funniest shit ever LMAO!

both of you obsessed with Microsoft and Sony is embarrasing

Good for them. With AI coming for their jobs and their new corporate overlords working overtime to replace them, it’s a smart move.

Notellin75d ago

It won't be long before Microsoft lays off everyone in gaming and routes that money over into AI.

Time for everyone at Xbox to update the resume and start coming up with Indie game pitches.

DarXyde75d ago

The point of unionizing is collective bargaining. Sadly, I do not believe they have any leverage, which is likely why Microsoft isn't impeding them: The investment in AI is gargantuan. We're talking about a data center in Wisconsin that's about 200 city blocks. That is massive and insane.
