E3 2011: Microsoft Vs. Sony: Who Won Day 1?

A decade ago an unparalleled rivalry was created between two major companies. You may know them as Microsoft and Sony. Since then, these heavy-hitters duke it out at E3 every year to try and walk away with the number one spot (Nintendo hasn’t been considered real competition, but maybe that will change with Project Cafe). Over the years, the shift in dominance has changed constantly with each company playing a never-ending game of tug-of-war. With Microsoft’s and Sony’s conferences completed, the question remains: Who won E3 today?

Exactly. Better title would be who won day 1. An even better idea is to not write flame war starting crap articles.

M-Easy5465d ago

Haha he changed the title. As you can tell from mine and other post that was NOT the original title it was "who won E3."

Now my question is do I get contributor or editor credit for my title?

somerandomdude5465d ago (Edited 5465d ago )

My console won yet again. It's amazing how they always win!

edit - I'm sure people.... like you have no bias towards which ever console you own. That must not exist on this site.

MaxXAttaxX5465d ago

- They showed pretty awesome footage(trailers and info) of Uncharted 3, Infamous 2, Resistance 3, BioShock Infinite, Sly Cooper 4 and Starhawk.

- A new PS3 exclusive game called "Dust514" (from the people who made EVE Online I believe).

- Exclusive Need For Speed content.

- A new BioShock game for the PSV along with Uncharted, StreetFighter x Tekken and LittleBigPlanet for the PSV.

- StreetFighter x Tekken info and Cole(from Infamous) as an exclusive character.

- PSV price is $249. SOLD!

- And ended their conference with style, including Japanese Taiko drummers and a DJ.

Can't remember what else, lol, but Sony delivered.

Whether you expected more DOESN'T make it bellow average. Maybe not "the best ever", but it was definitely above average.

Sony had everything Microsoft didn't have in their conference:
Strong game line-up, exclusive content and no BS.

LOL

Now it's Nintendo's turn. Can't wait. Hoping for some good stuff as well :)

Skip_Bayless5465d ago

The press conference means everything. As gamers we are savvy to know what we saw will turn out good enough. Everybody here on N4G knows games. If you win Day 1 you have won E3. I don't have to play Uncharted 3 to know that the graphics are top notch and game is amazing. I don't have to play Far Cry 3 to know it's gonna be same old hide/shoot gameplay. As gamers we know what is good and what isn't. Only every so often a game slips under the radar like Demon Souls comes out of nowhere and Darksiders for example.

captain-obvious5465d ago

i think Sony had a weak show (less that i expected) since there was no new WOW kinda game

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT

i t was much better than MS's

The gamers LOST.
Both MS and Sony revealed just one new game to their core audience: Halo 4 VS Sly 4. The rest was games that were already announced and kinect/move stuff, so nothing new here.

I highly doubt that Nintendo will save the day, but who knows...

paintsville5465d ago

I agree. The gamers are the real winners here. Microsoft was Waaaaaaaaay too kinect heavy. They really need some exclusives that aren't just for kinect. Don't get me wrong, I mean, kinect is cool and all, but I'm more of a hardcore gamer and I feeling a little let down by Microsoft this year.

cogniveritas5465d ago

Everything was underwhelming to me. Everything good that was shown was already things we expected. Except, Sony did drop a great value bombshell with the 3D tv deal which I'm unfortunately uninterested in (I'd rather buy games, my HDtv is sufficient).

I also feel like Sony spent too long on the PSVita. I really didn't want to hear about it as I'm over mobile gaming (If I'm out of the house, that means I have other things to do). However, their show strategy was good because I'm now debating buying a PSVita because of all the features and potential. The price is not bad either.

As for the Microsoft show, well fans of their core exclusive games & kinect should be all set for the new stuff. And I appreciate them showing off many of the multiplatform titles.

Since when was E3 a contest? Why awards are given? Gaming media is a joke

M$ Vs Sony who won? heck this don't need to be asked,

5465d ago
somerandomdude5465d ago (Edited 5465d ago )

The Winners...

EA - Battlefield3 (innovative graphics)
Bethesda - Elder Scrolls (gained the most hype out of every game)

The Losers....
Activision - Call of Duty Series (it's losing ground)

It was a good first day but we still have three days to look forward to. Too early to tell.

Godmars2905465d ago

Sony offered a presentation which largely appealed to the actual audience where MS's was more aimed at consumers. Parents are certainly going to be getting the Disney game for their kids.

Really dumb article. It's been one day and they completely ignore Nintendo saying it isn't real competition. My ass it isn't. Why do you think Sony released the Move and Microsoft released the Kinect?

Sony had the better conference out of the two though.

ilikegam3s5465d ago

ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Its MS. NOOOO wait its Sony!!!

LOL

Nah we have to wait till the end of E3.

Look I know VIII has its issues and all that but how on earth can the do big anniversary events with new artwork and merchandise for VII, IX and X yet VIII got sweet f*** all.

They could have given it something during its 25th anniversary yet all it got was a single Happy Anniversary post on their social media.

solideagle25d ago

they should know that we are OG fans of VIII as it sold truckload as well. not as much as VII or X. I personally didn't like IX but X and VI are my personal fav.

Shadow Hearts 2 covenant is another game I love. I hope one day someone can make remake, I would be delighted

Final Fantasy VIII is great and you are always the first to defend it in the comments

"Gaming’s Biggest Fighting Franchise"

Press X to (seriously) doubt.

DarXyde32d ago

Underrated comment. I used to hate that game so much that any time my siblings asked me to play it, I just picked Hom and shut myself down mid-match.

Soy32d ago

And then MK1 killed it again.

PlayStation legend Shuhei Yoshida says Jim Ryan fired him because he didn't listen to him

Why did Sony push Shuhei Yoshida out of his role leading PlayStation's first-party games? He'd overseen some huge successes. Well, apparently, he didn't listen.

Relientk7733d ago

Yeah I can see that for sure. Shuhei Yoshida should have been in charge not Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga33d ago

It should be free highway for him now.. but Sony are too stupid to see this, especially that moron Hulst

S2Killinit33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

Wtf why all that anger. PlayStation is dominating on every level. Besides I think there is a little more to hiring a CEO than just who is available. Its not like its a athlete your team wants to buy.

neutralgamer199233d ago

S2Killinit

live service failures, chasing trends, closing studios. yes dominating

Cacabunga32d ago

Sony is Dominating because competition is not existing. Compared to previous gens this is the poorest in terms of software offerings.

Last gen we got Uncharted 4 Lost Legacy and TLOU2 from ND alone.

This is so far a remasters gen, with no competition to lift up the quality

1nsomniac32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

..."PlayStation is dominating on every level"....

...Really???

PlayStation are soon heading into a new generation in the not to distant future. They currently have the worst customer satisfaction they've ever sustained as a company. The company is heading for a huge crash while at the same time they'll need to be planning how they are going to try and win back that favour and the build up to their new releases.

Yes financially they're winning but they're going to have to ride out this complete public corporate disaster. No one has faith in the company or the product anymore. They've damaged their public image so much this generation. Greed can kill anyone.

medman32d ago

Hulst is a disaster......

He would've done the same thing and fire Jim Ryan and Shuhei would be the villain. Why?
Because Elite creates the narrative and distraction for gamers, users and citizens.

Outside_ofthe_Box33d ago

More confirmation that Jim Ryan is the culprit for what has happened to Sony. Hulst needs to go too. What sucks is that a lot of the good top heads at Sony are no longer there. I wish that guys that were forced out prematurely by Dumbo Jimbo like Shuhei and Layden came back.

robtion32d ago

Yep. Yoshida was responsible for bringing one of the best games of this generation to playstation (Stellar Blade). He is an actual gamer and is in touch with what gamers want (creative, fun games, not GaaS and agenda pushing). He also seems like a genuinely nice guy if you watch some interviews. Of course they got rid of him.

darthv7233d ago

Makes you wonder if MS even thought about hiring him after Phil and Sarah were leaving. He certainly couldn't make their situation any worse.

Agent7533d ago

Microflop. After Windows XP and Xbox 360, it all went floppy.

S2Killinit33d ago

Floppy 😆
No pun intended

badz14933d ago

Yoshida for President! Jim Ryan was and always be a hack! Sony should get Shu back

Lightning7733d ago

All the gamer/consumer lead heads are gone across PS and Xbox. shuhei gone phil's gone (questionable) but gone. The future of gaming is somewhat uncertain across the board.
