Konami has officially announced their plans to release Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for the PS3 and Xbox 360 and now they have released the first screens showing off the difference in visuals. Showing off a couple screens from Metal Gear Solid 2 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, you can tell a clear visual difference with sharper textures and a far cleaner picture.

MGS was never an exclusive franchise in the first place.

MGS1: Twin Snakes appeared on the Gamecube, as did Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance was also released on the Xbox & PC. And now it's getting HD re-releases on the PS3 & 360, along with MGS3 getting a 3DS makeover

With the exception of the best game in the series (MGS4), it has always been a multiplatform franchise.

Kojima said he wont make ANYMORE exclusives so YES MGS5 on 360 along with 2-3 peace walker and rising. Mgs 4 was the worst imho, worst ending ever with horrible twists trying to tie up all loose ends and make it happy.

epic lolz if you really think MGS4 is the best game in the series. MGS 1-3 were all FAR superior to MGS4 in pretty much every way apart from graphics. MGS1 is the best in the series IMO, with 3 not far behind, then 2 not far behind, then 4 a distant last.

i *might* pick this up, my PS2 was on its last legs last time i played it 4-5 years ago (its a launch model) so if i want to play them im pretty much out of options atm.

I would be happy to see Peacewalker and 3 updated. MGS1 was on PC, i still have it although widescreen support and higher resolutions would be nice, as would using twin snakes assets and restoring the cutscenes and audio to the original version. Highly unlikely, i know.

2 was on PC as well and in that case, i played it already 6 or 7 years ago in 1080p. The PC version supports full 1920 x 1080.

3 and Peacewalker however have no HD release. In particular i would like MGS3 to be a good conversion.

LOL @fanboys now pretending MGS4 is a bad game just because they didn't get it, despite the fact it's the highest rated, fastest seller, 3rd best seller, the most commented(google's most researched) and the more relevant to the story in the whole franchise.

Calm down kids... Look at it this way: PS3 owners want a Substance/Subsistence like version with trophies and Kojima won't make no more exclusives. This mean we're now all on the same boat waiting for a MGS4 special edition.

I know you people like to feel entitled for bragging rights of things you had made nothing to contribute, but seriously, you guys aren't even making sense attacking MGS4... Or the MGS franchise for that matter.

If you want the "no more PS exclusive" headlines you should be aiming for ZOE because MG has been multiplatform franchise from the first tittle ("Metal Gear" was released for MSX2, NES, MS-DOS, Commodore64, PS2 and Mobile) to the lates announcements ("Metal Gear Rising" was announced for PS3 and X360 from the beggining).

I've played Peace Walker on my 46" and it looks f'in stupid and really grainy even though it doesn't fill the whole screen!

That PSP to TV cable was almost a total waste of money! And no dual analog DS3 support for Peace Walker, that was almost the entire reason I bought the damn cable!

Older games look more pixelated on HD displays because they originally had interlacing as an old-school visual filter

Play nintendo on a an old tube tv then plug it into an HD tv and you'll see what I mean. It clearly looks better on the tube. Same for PS1, PS2, PSP. Any screen shots taken will be inaccurate if displayed on a computer or HD monitor.

yea but twin snakes sucked.... it added too many corny things like snake doing backflips over doors to listen to a conversation. Like since when is a soldier a ninja lol.... Kojima had nothing to do with twin snakes.. they took his earlier vision of mgs1 and tried to add shit to it.

Yeah. No MGS1 = No sale to me. I wouldn't want Twin Snakes though, just the original redone in HD or really redone well with the MGS4 engine.

MGS1 would be expensive to remake because its all old assets from PS1; it wouldnt look anywhere close to MGS3, 2.

I know twin-snakes added alot; I said it would be easy to make MGS1 HD by using the assets to remake the MGS1 original; in regards to the visuals.

I'll be picking up both collections (MGS, ZoE) for my PS3 since i've played all these games with the exception of the handhelds MGS on PS2.

It just feels more comfortable for me, but I don't see what this fighting is about since people could've played these games back during the PS2 days (before being ported to xbox later in the case of MGS). If you didn't because of some stupid fanboy love/hatred for another console then that was your loss.

Just like its peoples lost this gen for their stupid narrow minded view of not owning more than one console when both are easily affordable.

MGS2 looks incredible, even better than the GOW collection but Peace Walker... Let's just wait for Konami's cash-in PsP remaster.

I'm not happy about it going on the 360 but what can you do? It's all about the mighty dollar these days. Now the only reason I say that about the 360 is because I don't think the games well be appreciated and be looked down appon from it's story and long cut scenes. Just my 2 cents.

it sucks because it seems like he is preferring the 360 over the ps3 and what does this mean? future kojima production games will be dumbed down in order to be playable on the 360...now it seems like he is just whoring his games..before these titles were considered a true gem, a "system seller", a fine wine have you. now they are the equivalent of miller lite beers because they are on the 360.

Stop acting like you've been betrayed. I don't remember this sort of reaction from 360 owners when Mass Effect was ported to the PS3. More people can play these games now, and I think to find a problem with that is just petty.

@guigsy first off i care because i am a fan, a fan of games a fan of kojima and a fan of innovation. when these games were made as i said before they were considered "system sellers" a "true gem". one of the reasons mgs pw was made was to prove a true mgs console experience can be achieved on a handheld. i am all for bringing that experience from handheld to the console but not to the 360. kojima is one of the few developers that pushes consoles to the limits, he did it with mg1 he did it again with mgs1 and so on with mgs2 and mgs4 you simply CANNOT get that same experience when the game is ported to a console with lesser hardware value. the ps3 is and always will be powerful than the 360. if you make an exclusive for 360 and one for ps3 ground up the ps3 exclusive will most likely be better. why? it is the more POWERFUL console. that is how the 360 devalues ps3 exclusive games

so mgs2 was ported to the xbox, do u think xbox was lesser hardware than ps2? It is the same fuckin game.

I play plenty of games on both ps3 and x360, and i practically see no differences (often time better on x360 than ps3). What i do see though is that, if a game has a lot of HD cutscene (FF13, MGS4,LA noire,..), QTE, uncompress sound, etc... x360 do suffer because of disc space. If u just want gameplay, even open world game (fall out, RDR, GTA4, Fable 2/3, etc...) x360 can ran them quite well.

Nonetheless, i think both are limited by the amount of RAM they have, except x360 is a little bit more flexible in that case. Ps3 has better CPU (need a lot more work, just to get to the same level/maybe slightly better than x360, which i still have doubt) while x360 has better GPU.

Do u own x360?

After seeing Crysis 2 for console, i think they are very similar in power. I can't believe it looks like that with large scale, lots of interaction, everything is so crisp and realistic. The only game so far that i think have push consoles beyond their limit.

Oh really? I remember ps3 gamers were the first to criticize/hate mgs4 for its long cutscenes saying that the game was more movie than game, I personally loved every bit of the game including cutscenes.

Plus, I don't understand why all the hate on this site is directed towards xbox360 and its fans they are gamers too...I mean seriously they wanted mgs4 so bad they start spreading rumors back then about the game heading to 360 but that never happened... at least they are getting HD version of previous games now what's the harm in that? believe me MGS series is a rare form of game every gamer should experience

@wazzim...Ah no it didn't...contrary to popular belief the MS in MSX did NOT actually stand for MicroSoft. all microsoft did was provide the language for those computers. The Metal Gear you speak of was later ported over to the nintendo entertainment system which then became a hit after that.

They already had nearly 80% of Shadow Moses in MGS4, I doubt it'd have taken a shit ton more work to finish the missing 20% and do the audio (although I imagine they'd have to rework some payment issues for the voice actors and soundtrack, although MGS without Harry Gregson William's MGS theme would be a travesty).

Anyway, I'm just talking out of my ass. I'm still pleased with this collection. I own MGS on PS1, and as much as I'd love an HD version, the collection they have is pretty rock solid. I'm even more excited for the Silent Hill collection, as SH 2 and 3 are my favorite in the series.

My backwards compatible PS3 is showing signs of wear, so these HD Collections are making it so that I don't have to worry about maybe swapping it for a Slim one day.

They've already released some of my favorite games of last gen in HD, so if they just announce a Ratchet, Jak, and Dark Cloud/Rogue Galaxy collection at their E3 press conference, I really won't need to hoard my BC PS3 like I do.

I like replaying some of my favorite games, but I don't have a PS2 anymore.

It was kind of overlooked in all of the "OMGS Collection!!!!"

I love my MGS, but Silent Hill is probably one of my favorite gaming franchises (except for Homecoming. I HATED that game).

Big Thanks man! Silent Hill 1 and 2 was the games I loved most in the days of PS1 and 2, and the third one was good too, but the second one, is just pure classic. It has one of the best ending in the history of videogames.

I still watch this clip from time to time (LOVE the music), and wish that SH2 would get a remake.. Now it's happening, can't wait.. (and yes, this is bigger news for me too, than MGS-remakes, tought just slightly^^)

You do realize you sound as stupid as all PS3 fanboys who are crying that "MGS is coming to X0".

MG franchise have been on so many consoles, I won't list it, and MGS franchise has already been on MS, Sony, and Nintendo consoles. To me, MGS series have never made any sense when talking about platforms, just to name MGS4 only on PS3, or best version of MGS on Gameqube, or Peacewalker on PSP (really?)... Amazing fan service Konami and Kojima..

But now I'm pretty damn happy, Peacewalker for homeconsoles, and remake of MGS3, now give us remake of MGS1 too please^^

Lol, if you want to count me as fanboy, call me PC fanboy currently, since that's the platform I currently most play, Civilization V, Witcher, and APB:Reloaded currently.

I started gaming on Commodore, so I have played so many different platforms, that I really don't have need or will to "pledge" to one, they are just tools for me to get the games I enjoy. I have own X0 the day since Elite came out, got it for Mass Effect, and have played the shit out of it (check VirtuousMatti gamertag), and I have own PS3 almost a year now. But as "PS3 fanboy" I really haven't played it much, mostly only the exclusives I have missed when I did not own one, like UC2, Heavy Rain (Amazing), Infamous (didn't finish this one), and MGS4, but besides that (and bf:bc2^^), it have been mostly collecting dust, just like my lately fixed X0.

My rant was your way of just flaming, to my eyes it just don't give anything productive to anyone, or does make this community any better any way, it's just useless post. Also I wanted to inform you, and the rest of dumb people who thinks MG and MGS franchise is somehow related to specific platforms, to widen theyr eyes.

I'm not surprised by your reply to just call me "fanboy", based on the conent of your post, and the fact I'm bashing it.

If this still bothers your head, just read my comment history, and you will get pretty good picture that I don't belong to any "side". But I'm going to troll a bit myself now, and make some assumptions about you, just based on your last two comments here.

A) Your not old enough, or should I say mature enough to understand that when someone gives you a tip of info, it's a good thing.

B) Your just one more those "fanboys" this site is roaming with, who only see the things they want to, believe the things they want to, and everyone who isn't in 100% agreement with everything they say, is automatically wrong, or "fanboy" of other camp. (I'm guessing this one, since my comment had nothing pro-Sony, but you just went with that).

C) I dunno, your just simple?

Great news! But with all these HD re-releases coming out I'm having trouble staying current. I'm still trying to finish up the Tomb Raider Trilogy. Then the Splinter Cell HD Collection hits. Let's not mention Prince of Persia HD Trilogy and then ICO/Shadow of the Colossus at some point. Too many games! November will be especially jam-packed.

finally now I can play these games to the full extent without having to switch between PS2 other any other console. thought I dont know what console to get it for, it would be fun chatting with friends in party chat while playing these games on Xbox, but idk.

Currently playing Snake Eater HD on CRT 16:9, via Scart RGB. Game looks great but not as clean as MGS2, but thats due to the setting. Can't wait for the remake + the next HD collection on PS5.

I have the Metal Gear Solid HD collection from a few years ago and I still have the PlayStation 2 versions of mgs2/3. Wish Konami would get their act together they have so many great ips that are just wasting away .

Knowing Konami they will probably release Metal Gear in some form of an anniversary collection pack like they did with Contra and Castlevania. Konami gave the middle finger to their die hard fans who have followed them from beginning to end. Konami turned their back on the gaming community I honestly don't care about Konami anymore I have my Konami games I like and I will stick with the older titles. Too bad Konami just doesn't sell off their gaming division to someone who will utilize that division. And Konami can stick their head back in the sand and focus on Pachinko machines.

I buy digital mostly unless I want a collector’s or special edition. I buy way too many games a year and I don’t want have ti deal with storage.

You can still download them if you bought them previously, they have just gone like physical did years ago and remove them from being bought new. The only difference is that you can still buy them second hand in the physical market.

Konami has intentionally murdered several of their biggest franchises. Silent Hill, Castelvania, and now MGS. I don’t think they really care about making big hits anymore.

It still amazes me how MGS4, the last great MGS games (MGSVs open world and lack of plot outside of tapes did nothing for me) is still locked on PS3 outside of streaming via now. Konami are sitting on a goldmine. I wish Sony could somehow acquire the rights
