PS3 has 7-10 years life span, so who cares it didn't even sell this year. i am enjoying resistance, motorstorm, warhawk, ratchet TOD, F1, heavenly sword, lair, nba 2k08, and next will UT3, uncharted, GT5, KZ2, MGS4. OK PS3 failed, but not for me! I am enjoying my baby for the next 6 years, just spend my money on games, NOT hardware every 2 years ;)aha

The interview says nothing about poor sale of the PS3. This title is completely misleading. All it talks about is the loss Sony takes because the PS3 cost more to make then they sell it for.

How many more hits can the Playstation brandname take? I mean. How can they possibly turn around the popular sentiment that the Ps3 is a waste of money?

It's still going to be a year before the Ps3 even releases it's heavy hitters. How long can it last without them? I'm not saying it's just going to dissapear. But if opinions continue the way they are I don't see the Ps3 ever leaving 3rd place this gen.

I'm pleased that the expensive ps3 with competition from wii and 360 has sold almost as well as xbox 360 with no competition.

as stated above by others the PS3 is the most expensive of the three and if they managed to actually get 5.5 million ppl to buy the console how is that a failure when it sold the same amount as the 360 did in it's first year..and sales are begining to rise so how is it doing poorly....I think ppl were expecting the PS3 to come and out and sell 20 mill in it's first year...

People really make too much of a big deal about console sales, they are important, but gee, no biggie. The ps3 is getting its games, and its improving.

Now perhaps for a company like sony(being their third generation after all), they should be doing better than they are. I'm surprised sony fans and fanboys even compare it to the 360 if its far superior to it, and if its true that its doing so bad. If so, why are you even using it as an excuse? That just struck me funny, but that could also be said for the other side.

Sony did have a slow start but they are gaining ground. I think its just since sony has been in the game for a while people were expecting better results. We will see what happens though since the ps3's price dropped and more games are coming out for it. Chances are the ps3 sales will skyrocket.

Then you have Microsoft overhyping games as well like halo 3 to death as well, and the whole faulty hardware(which in many ways i don't get, the first xbox was freaking indestructible, and was fairly reliable at least compared to the 360 which isn't saying much i guess :P).

Then you have the wii.

this generation is going to probably be a lot more even without the 90 mil margin.

Whether you guys on both sides like it or not, Sony and Msoft have to learn not to overhype things or at least say them at the right time. I.E 1080p(Msoft) is not needed, 4d graphics(perhaps sony should've started saying stuff like that around now or in a year), etc.

If ones thing annoys me, its a lot of advertising done by both companies. I try to ignore it as much as possible. I did it with halo 3 and will with mgs4 KZ2 etc.

Personally i think both could do so much better than they are now. Fortunetly I have seen some amazing stuff on both systems, and i like both consoles a lot. And its looking better as time goes on. So really is it that bad?(that almost sounds like i am contradicting my self, however things are looking up for both consoles)

well So, Ratchet came out and blew away everyones who didn't already know Ratchet would pwn. a console selling primarily at 600 bucks since launch in 2 markets alone for 5 months before going worldwide, and is at the same place where it's competition was at in it's first year a head of the PS3, right now. and it just received some pretty solid software from First party. and 3rd party software are hitting day and date with it's competition, and has recently and officially cut prices on the PS3 world wide and is about to introduce a new model priced at a mass market price point, and it still msold in excess of 5.6 million worldwide with stiff competition from xbox 360 Wii, and PS2... yep....

this is hardly concievable as news. when you shed light and do homework on the matter you actually find that the PS3 is sell quite well. steady just like the 360... and at this point the ps3's only problem is the Wii. and I believe that Something that flys out of the gate like that eventually runs out of steam. The DS while it is a runaway success it's loosing steam now, and the Wii is starting as well. while i will say that it will sell amazingly this christmas, because of mario, after christmas the market will be a different place.

PS3 sales wont really take off until its priced competitively and has launched its heavy hitters. Expect wonders after home launches etc. Its just getting started. Yah the ps3's sales figures arent poor. Its price point clearly shows why its slow to hit the masses.As price drops sales increase.

I just want to ask would all of the Xbox fans have bought the 360 if it cost 650 dollars when it was released? So personally i think it is doing relatively well considering price point. Also just a few weeks ago wasn't it shown that the ps3 was on par with the 360 in terms of sales for the first 11 months. Considering all variables i believe that it is doing fine. if there is any evidence that contradicts what i am saying please point me in the right direction. ie Xbox 360 sales in the first 11 months that utterly shatter ps3 sales, hate to reiterate what i already said but it is doing fine and with the new price point i believe they have a justifiable shot at taking second place behind the Wii.

PS3 is being left behind in the Market. People have made their choices for the most part. Everyone who isn't a hater would love to have a PS3, but for most people, they cost too much, so it isn't really an option. I would say that Sony should just bite the bullet and deal with taking whatever kind of loss it takes per console in order to make it affordable to the common man. However, since 3rd party developers are having so much trouble creating games, and spending so much money, they pretty much can't rely on that.

All of that being said, here is my prediction: IF GOW 3 and FFXIII come out on time next year with no hitches or drawbacks, then the PS3 will survive. Yes, there will be other good games for the PS3 next year, but I believe that it is those two games that will make people dig a little deeper and go ahead and spend the money. IF Square Enix is having trouble and has to delay until 2009? The PS3 may not survive this round, and Square Enix may even decide to release the game on other consoles. But if everything works out good, then the rest of the almost certain to be delays for this system such as Fallout 3 won't kill them.

If things go well with those two games next year for Sony, I predict that the PS3 may pull to within 2/3-3/4 of total 360 sales by the end of the 2008 Holiday season. 3rd party developers will have a better feel for the machine, and will begin to trickle back to them. Nintendo will continue to be behind on production for the Wii through the beginning of next fall, but have plenty for the 2008 holiday season, by which time Super Mario Galaxy and SSBB will still be selling like hot-cakes, which means that if the Wii is to be caught, it won't happen before 2009. By which time, The Legend of Zelda: A link to the Future should be ready, and we may have a full fledged 3 way race, with Nintendo having the edge. But all 3 consoles having good sales, and a gaming market much larger than EVER before. Who loses? No one. Which is a good thing. I sure hope Sony is pouring every effort into helping Square Enix maximize the hardware.

the sony boys keep saying that the PS3 is selling around the same as the 360 did when it first launched!! well thats the problem dont you think!! this is a PLAYSTATION!! it was SUPPOSED to jump out the gates very strong an do what the Wii did in terms of sales. not sell THE SAME as the 360. in 10 years sony has sold almost 250 million PLAYSTATION consoles to MS barley 25 million in four years. so the Playstation should have dominated. but... because of all the sony promises, alot of people sat on the fence WAITING on the PS3 to see what is was about. the Ps3 launched with a weak showing an allowed people to see that the PS3 is NO BETTER than the 360 at a much greater price. if the PS3 would have launched an blew away they 360 in ALMOST everything(graphics,online,gam es,rumble) people wouldnt have thought twice about spending the money on the PS3. but it failed to show that, an I feel until it shows that its superior with better games regardless of the price drop people are still gonna go for the xbox 360!!

You really think the ps3 is doing bad with the high price, lack of games, not enough systems at launch , well guess what the 360 had the same problems and it only had to battle the Ps2, the sales from the 360 year launch and the sales from the ps3 launch are very close, here read this and its from a good website.

Uhh, maybe because it sux and there are no games and thats why they dropped the price so much on it. Not very hard to figure out people, it will fail like the Atari Jaguar. Even that thing was better than the PS3. Ill stick with my PSP,360 and Wii for now.

everyone seemed to forget that the 360 pulled the same numbers when it launched with respect to the ps3, by that I mean there are lot of sources that when the 360 and ps3 are put in a timeline of # months out in the market the numbers are really similar. Now, keep in mind that when the 360 launched it had no "next-gen" competitor...when the PS3 came out it had two competitors the Wii and the 360 (which by this time had a great game library) and yet the PS3 has about the same numbers as the 360 when it was launched...so to me it says the PS3 it's doing decently. I think that the 360 is doing awesome and it will keep doing it that way, but guys remember, for almost a year there was no good games for the 360 (unless you love Kameo)...but most of the time I kept playing Geometry War and Hexen...but until Splinter Cell DA, and GeOW I didn't see anything awesome on the 360...so back off the PS3...I love the XBox, especially GeOW but now PS3 is starting to shine, and Warhawk is adddictive...and whether people like it or not the PS3 will sell, and the 306 will sell...there are millions of games waiting to upgrade, so there is plenty of space for both consoles to co-exist successfully

Until FF7 came out. And that happened in September 1997, almost 3 years after it came out in japan (in december of 1994). PS3 is on par with PS2 on sales, almost. The difference will be that Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto, Final Fantasy and Gran Turismo will all come, instead of holiday 2007 (to compare with PS2), will come next year; but those won't be the only games. The PS3 is more expensive, but it does offer more than the PS2 offered, even relative to its time. So the next year with all the games, a price drop, and possibly even a redesign, I don't think Xbox 360 will stand a chance in Japan, PS3 and 360 will both be neck and neck in sales in the USA (despite the headstart and the price advantage), and PS3 will outsell Xbox 360 in Europe several times to the point where Microsoft will be forced to sweeten the deal, and they'll be neck and neck too over there, but on an accumulated sales basis (not weekly, not yearly, but total). That is, the only place where Xbox 360 will be beating (on an accumulated basis) PS3 will be in America and even then not by a lot. Japan will be the country that makes the difference between PS3 and 360; and that's where the greatest games come from. It'll be the SNES vs. Genesis all over again; GEnesis beating the sh1t out of the SNES in the states until the games came out (Zelda) and Sega started coming with add-ons (Sega CD, HD-DVD add on anyone) and game formats that were dead before arrival (32X, perhaps HD-DVD 360 games, unlikely but you can never be sure). The rumored XBox 360 with HD-DVD is like the genesis that came with 32X and Sega CD fully integrated. lol

The word is out. The ps3 is a failure in every way. Developers are showing alot of frustration and leaving. Top titles are selling like crap. While the 360 and the Wii is having HUGE profits. You can see why Sony is in desperate mode and slashing prices for the third time in less than a year. The only reason why this console is even selling is because of its name brand. If it was called The Jaguar 2 than it would be cancelled long time ago.

Many many factors of whats happening from both companies but the bottom line is; as a Company you can't assume the "MASSES" are hardcore loyalist to your platform(casual trend consumers make the bulk of people willing to ever buy a console and they're starting to compete with the hardcore for market, this is why MSFT is adjusting stradegy).

MSFT has sold their stradegy and they are delivering on it. MSFT simply established their lead with a console thats gots plenty of practical function, plenty of games with the popular trend to go along with it.(world arcade and social gaming was the natural evolution of gaming thats taking the world by storm, world arcade without leaving your home... no quarters). Thats the bottom line. So what if it takes other parts of the world to buy into it as fast as the USA.

I still think once IPTV takes off MSFT will sell a ton of 360 and if not still enough to be in a great position thus effecting Sofware sales etc.

PS3 is boring that is why. Cell was design by people that know anything about games. No dev. want to have to program for 8 processors at same time. Dev have to go back to school to Sony fee.

Meh, both consoles are doing pretty well. When more consumers adapt to HD gaming & HDTV's, M$ & Sony will do even better. I think the 360 is doing far better than expected, and I am personally very pleased & surprized at how many great games the 360 offers...

Conversely, Sony is doing okay too. Sure, they've had a rough start & are pretty lacking in the software department, however, this will begin to change with Uncharted, MGS4, & others. For me, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION, Sony's biggest mistake was BluRay (while innovative, it seriously delayed the release of the console & skyrocketed it's cost), their clear lack of 3rd party support & development tools (both of which they have paid dearly for...) & just all of the empty promises. I personally was majorly turned off by their arrogance & ridiculous promises that they don't follow up on: quckly establishing a reputation as never delivering upon anything their executives say. But again, they were once the Industry leader, I love my PS2, we NEED healthy competition in the Industry, & Sony will make a comeback.

Micro's only real mistake is RROD. However, it's a big one that has affected alot of ppl very negatively. Also, not offering user based content, no offering of an internet browser, & not being able to load my Xbox 1 saves really pisses me off. But, Micro is in great shape - if they continue to pump out the great games, it's going to be hard for anyone to take them down.

However, I don't trust or worship Sony or Micro. If either company dominates this gen (or any gen) it raises costs & slows down innovation for ALL consumers. I prefer a dead even "war" that has no victor, as it would benefit ALL Gamers the most.

Both companies are in good shape & aren't going anywhere. I look forward to picking up a PS3 when it has enough software (for ME) to justify it's purchase. We are truly blessed to be living & gaming in the year that set record profits for the Gaming Industry & all the innovation & eye candy this generation is giving us.

Excuses for all delays, framerate issues... Just accept it. The PS3 isn't doing well. Even not when compared to the 360. Even not seen no competition first year of other next gen consoles for the 360 and the competition now. It was expected that with the brand Playstation, the PS3 would have sold like hell... ps3 is doing just as will with sails as the 360 and ps2, just look at a graph, they are almost the same. The 360 and ps2 mite have more sails to date, but at there launch they are all about the same. Sony isn't making profit now, but they will later. the Wii is selling like crazy tho and they are making a profit. but i think its a fad. its fun and cheep, but iv noticed its only fun with other people.
