Activision has been doing it right alot. MW2 & Black Ops are the most sold shooters in history and they now bring out another feature which will be bitched about alot because it costs money (people expect everything for free), but isn't nesseccity. If you don't feel you need it, don't buy it, it won't give others an unfair advantage, it will help people overcome some of their own problems.

Old McGroin5502d ago

People are angry because what Activision are offering for extra cost actually comes as part of the retail price for a lot of other games, not for free like you say. Remember, gaming is a very expensive hobby as it is without suddenly having to pay extra for what used to be included in the retail price.
But you're right, it isn't a necessity, I won't be buying it and I'll probably steer clear of Modern Warfare 3 this year out of principal.

PoulCast5502d ago

I beg to differ. $60 is not an expensive hobby. I have spend more than $250 on Football equipment this year, which I play once a week for 2 hours. With any game I have, I paid $60 for the possiblity of 24/7 playtime. Stop speaking with your wallet every time.

Activision are offering new features for a price. People hated Activision when they started their 5-maps-$15 campaign with Modern Warfare 2. Guess what, alot of companies are starting to do this, times change - adjust.

Yesterday, I went to the movies, a ticket cost me $10. For those $10 I get a one-time view on a movie that I most likely will never see again.

Hours spend on $10 movie: 2
Hours spend on $60 game: 500+ so far.

Stop crying. It's not a need to have CoD Elite. People won't have unfair advantages. If you don't feel like you need the improvement, DON'T BUY IT. It doesn't make the game worse that they have CoD Elite.

Soldierone5502d ago

@ Paul you totally just proved his point in every way...

First off a 250 dollar equipment purchase for football is not compared to a 60 dollar game. Its compared to a 300+ dollar PS3 or whatever system you buy. 60 dollar game is just an accessory, like your 5 dollar football.

"When Activision start their 5 maps for 15 dollars...alot of companies started to do this" THATS WHY PEOPLE ARE MAD. 15 dollars for 2 new maps, and copy and paste code from a previous game shouldn't become the normal.... Now Activision has taken it a step further, stripped Black Ops of some necessary stat tracking etc, and tagged a price tag on awesome services Halo and Killzone (etc) already offer for free. Now these companies are going to go "Oh hey, lets charge them to use these!" now unless you pay 5 dollars a month for 10 different games, guess what you dont get?

I'm just waiting to see what you DO have to pay for. Everything is confusing to the fans and Activision is doing a poor job of advertising it right.

PoulCast5502d ago

@Soldierone:

A $250 equipment purchase for football is compared the game + equipment to play it. If I took in the fee to play in a club ~ $150 per ½ year, then we are still down to gaming being cheap. My mouse, mousemat & keyboard has so far lasted 2½ year, that cost me around $220-$230. You are wrong though, because the $60 isn't just accessory, that's the entire package of the "hobby" that is required to play. All-in-all, my gaming accessory, games and systems are way cheaper, on a hourly basis, than any other hobby I have ever attended.

As far as I know, the first map pack for MW2 was three new maps and two classics from MW1. I make more than twice the cost of a map pack per hour, however - I have never purchased CoD DLC, simply because I feel that it shortens the playerbase when you seperate them by offering priced DLC. I don't disagree with DLC having a price.

The features Killzone & Halo offers, are in no way compareable to what CoD Elite offers. If you watched the Game Informer review, you would notice the difference and only to judge from seven screenshots, that's pretty lame and shows how unexperienced you are on the PC market.

CoD DLC $15 is NOT overpriced. CoD Elite, being an optional feature for people who wish to bring other elements into their daily dosis of CoD is not milking, it's not a rip-off it's completely legit business. You aren't forced to purchase it, you won't play against people with an unfair advantage and you won't be charged to play Call of Duty Multiplayer. Why you are so pissed, for no reason at all, is beyond my understanding. Unless you work for lowest wage in Africa, you can't complain about these prices.

GrumpyVeteran5502d ago

True, they are doing something right. Their milking techniques surpass any other developer to date.

That doesn't make the game good.

fatalred alarm5502d ago

Can't blame them for trying to make a load of money, but you CAN hate them for it, because we are the ones paying.

retrofly5502d ago

We just need to see what the price is. Map packs are included in Elite, 3 maps packs are normally released a year, costing in total £30 in the uk at least, which works out at about £2.50 a month.

If you factor in that £2.50 a month for just the map packs and Activision plan on keeping the monthly cost under £5, it might not work out to be that exspensive.

Will have to wait for the beta and prices though before I make any decisions.

Either way Elite inst compulsary and you can still choose to buy the map packs separately.

KyRo5502d ago

Us UK gamers always get shafted though do we not? Especially with the prices of COD. It Activision for starters. We're looking at more £5-£6 a month which is about £72 for 12 months.

I'd much rather pay £33 a year for 3 map packs at £11 than pay a monthly fee for some pages full of statistics.

retrofly5502d ago

Yeah need to see hwo good the content of Elite is, hopefully we'll get more info in the beta.

By all means I'm not sold on Elite yet.

S_C5502d ago (Edited 5502d ago )

@retrofly

Dont tell me activision have sucked you into this shocking service ......SMH

Old McGroin5502d ago

"Other important element of Call of Duty Elite is the interactive gaming where players across the globe will join one platform to a load of things just like on a social network. Players will be able to record and share videos, create and join various groups and clans and there will be tracking system for all the stats updates. There will also be leagues and ladders where players will compete with each other for the noble prize."

Got this quote from another article somewhere on N4G which states what Elite is offering, looks to like Activision are offering for an extra premium what other games offer as part of the retail price, ROLL ON BATTLEFIELD 3!!

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex210d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos210d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio210d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
