Everything is better with cats. The Earth itself knows this, as it allowed a huge rock to kill off all those ugly, scaly dinosaurs just to make way for cats. Okay listen up people, just because it's a game you may not be into doesn't mean it's not a great game or deserving of an award.
My son loves this game and I can see why, it's very inventive and works well, almost like a real AI pet that you can do things with. It is a wonderful title and I as an adult have even found myself getting caught up playing the game.
Not every new IP that wins an award should be a FPS or something like that. There are more casual gamers then core and this game is well deserving of this award. Congrats.

Even the most die hard kinect fans gotta admit it's facepalm worthy .
that you'd consider it good , great even , fine , why not .
But this is ridiculous in the face of every other new ips of the year
