Devil May Cry 4 revisited

Gematsu: "From concept to completion, there are hundreds of games that are drastically changed to alter gameplay elements, characters, plot, and more in its finished product. It is not unheard of for a game to undergo several design changes before settling in with the development team. Seeing a game in its original form can be eye opening and even displeasing, whether you can fantasize about the way a game would have turned out taking the initial design path, or by being unable to imagine how awful you believe the game would have turned out."

Stunt5389d ago

DMC4 did feel very repetitive.

ThanatosDMC5389d ago

DMC4 such high expectation but damn...

Tony-Red-Grave5389d ago

agreed i spit in the face of people who think DMC4 was cool. it felt like they actually managed to down tone dmc3.

not only that but every dmc was unique if you replay dmc and dmc2 you can tell the difference in gameplay right away and if you try dmc3 you can see how much change take place, or innovation evolution whatever you want to use, but dmc4 just went out and managed to be bland imo the game itself story and gameplay wise disappointed me.

Whitefox7895389d ago

Agree with both of you. Sadly I got this title on launch day....

Wish I knew how Nero was part of the Sparda bloodline...

I also wish it wasn't just an HD revamp of DMC 3. The one thing I did like that would've been awesome in DMC 3 was the Dante portion of DMC 4 where you can swap styles through the D-pad instead of having to switch the style at the beginning of the level. I figure if they make you know a more acceptable DMC game (HIDEKI KAMIYA PLEASE SAVE US!) we could get multiple styles in the game just like DMC 3 but be able to switch them on the fly like DMC 4's Dante portion for sicker combos. I could imagine a sick Doubleganger combo :D.

Wolfmoonstrike5389d ago

I'm not sure if Nero does fit into the Sparda storyline but Tala and me thought that his hand might be Vergil's. We felt the story hinted towards that but who knows.

kanetheking5389d ago

he might be Vergil's son that might be the link.

midgard2275389d ago

wasn't it obvious he nero was vergil son? I mean he could use vergils sword, and well yeah I think nero was cool and the devil bringer was pretty awesome, just wish their wasnt back tracking

ScentlessApprentice75389d ago (Edited 5389d ago )

Not necessarily a bad game, but still somewhat "meh". I still believe the original DMC is still the best, followed by DMC3.

If DMC would have stayed PS exclusive, it would have most likely been a better product than it was. After all, all the back-tracking and repetitive boss fights in the game was due to having to compress the data to fit within the space limitations of DVD9. I'f I'm not mistaken, someone from directly within Capcom had gone on record stating that.

Tony-Red-Grave5389d ago

if you think about it capcom has a bad record when switching exclusive titles to multiplat.

one example being dino crysis

Inception5389d ago

couple things that i like from DMC 4:
- Nero fighting style was cool enough with demon hand, single handgun, and sword that can burn enemies
- I can see again Trish and Lady with jugling HD tits <3

the rest are meh...imho

DMC2 ranked 2nd and also DmC ranked 3rd?
What a load of BS!

ABizzel1316d ago

IMO

6. DMC2 6/10
5. DMC4 7.5/10 (Hated Nero, repeat bosses, Dante was the saving grace but only about half the game)
4. DmC 7.5/10 (solid overall, some great ideas, meh story, dialog sucked, and the director almost killed DMC)
3. DMC1 8.5/10 (all around solid)
2. DMC5 9/10 (carried by Dante & Nero gameplay, I didn’t like V’s, Nero’s better but still not a fan)
1. DCM3 10/10 (chef’s kiss)

Vits316d ago

Well, it worked.

This nothingburger of a opinion article got a lot of views and comments.

Pyrofire95316d ago

WHAT!? who in their right mind would put 2 near the top (not at the bottom) unironically?
I think all of them are worth playing in their own right honestly, except 2 unless you REALLY want to experience the whole series.

FinalFantasyFanatic315d ago (Edited 315d ago )

I honestly don't know what the author was smoking, personally I'd rank DMC3 as no.1, maybe DMC5 as second, DMC1 as third, DMC4 as fourth, and DMC as fifth and DMC2 last. such a bizarre list, mybe the author just has strange taste.

DMC2 anywhere but last is crazy. Awful list overall.

BlaqMagiq1316d ago

"Devil May Cry 2 isn’t trash. It’s just misunderstood by a fanbase that doesn’t like change."

This and putting DMC 2 number 2 is all I need to ignore this ranking. DMC2 is absolute trash and it's clear this person doesn't understand exactly why.

Flenter316d ago

For me: 3,1,5,4,2 and then .....Dmc

fsfsxii316d ago (Edited 316d ago )

Why is DmC last? Genuinely curious.

lellkay316d ago (Edited 316d ago )

Dmc is far superior to DMC2 come on

"almost 20-year-old series"

It's 24 years old.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

VersusDMC678d ago

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC678d ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Exvalos677d ago

What a weird name, it's essentially devil may cry, devil may cry lol

Cacabunga677d ago

Best to good for me: 3, reboot, 1, 5

2 and 4 are trash, didnt like any of them.
5 has very good gameplay variety but i hated the foes.. it is just insects the whole time. Reboot has the best foes for me

Friendlygamer678d ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey602678d ago (Edited 678d ago )

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya678d ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde678d ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me

SeTTriP677d ago

This right here is my order as I thought DMC 5 was amazing and obviously 3 comes after 4 was great and 1 for the nastilgic value it holds 2 was so terrible that my local GameStop gave full refunds to people who returned it.

Bless the adorably all digital future! When it comes to PC games its not as big of an issue because there should always be another way to access single player games, but still, I hate to see anything get delisted.

Aaroncls7755d ago

Well, DMC4 special edition has a lot of issues to run from Steam.
I have to get a modded executable to even be able to run the game on Windows 10.
Not sure if it is because the game runs in DirectX10 or what, but it sucks they have not even tried to fix it.

Sephiroushin754d ago (Edited 754d ago )

DMC4 Special Edition is not delisted, it was just the standard version, it has nothing to do with issues of performance or anything alike. Its just that Capcom probably do not want to sell the standard version, neither the standalone DMC3 version.
