PS3 System Software Update v3.70 Spotted

GxC: "The PS3 is no stranger to FW updates, the most recent v3.61, was needed to get back onto the PSN and reset your password after the security breach. In the past updates have been used for several reasons, to add security measures, to fix system issues, and also to add additional features and capabilities."

Now a new FW update has been spotted to be coming sometime this year.

Interesting... *strokes chin*

Let the cross-game chat rumours BEGIN!... AGAIN!

DragonKnight5426d ago

*sigh* I know right? Why can't people just give that up? It's not even a necessity. Oh well.

darthv725426d ago

when did they ever stop?

much like continued rumors of MGS4 on the 360.

There is always going to be the snowballs chance in hell but it is still a chance.

RankFTW5426d ago

I want cross game chat, err no wait... cross game platform chat, yeah th... oh no now I have it cross game platform dimension chat, that's the one, get it sorted Sony or I'm gone.

WhittO5426d ago (Edited 5426d ago )

I couldn't care less about cross-game chat.

I just want a re-vamped XMB/PSN.

The XMB is great, but there are SO many more features/Applications that have been added to the PS3, since launch, now it's cluttered and disjointed.

A GUI overhaul is really needed!!

They have the features now, lets just get the interface right to show them off properly!

Washington-Capitals5426d ago (Edited 5426d ago )

The xmb is fine in terms of appearance, but it is far from fine in functionality and user friendlyness. I really hate the lag that occurs when i try to access the xmb in a game, whether im online or playing a single player game. I dont like the lag, i just want something that is very smooth, if it means less features, im ok with that.

gta28005426d ago

New update doesn't matter to me, that headset that was in the article just grabbed my attention and I might be a day 1 buyer for that.

vickers5005425d ago

None of the extra sh*t on PSN is a necessity. In game text messaging, in game xmb, psp remote control, a fast and new non-web site based psn store (remember that old p.o.s.?). None of that crap is NECESSARY, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't have those things and should stop asking for features simply because they're not required, so what's the point in you bringing up your idiotic "it's not a necessity" argument?

Stop telling us to get over it. Just because YOU don't want it, doesn't mean other people don't. New features should ALWAYS be WELCOMED, and if you believe otherwise, you're probably a fanboy who thinks your favorite console and the company it came from is perfect.

FACTUAL evidence5425d ago

@DragonKnight

Stop saying x game chat isn't necessary because you don't need it. You'd probably end up using it more than the people who actually want it...

Anyways I'm so sick and tired of the whole x game chat speculations. I just know it will not be offered on the ps3. It will probably be there for ps4 though, that could be a good selling point for it.

Well I'm hoping for at least voice messaging or even a PSN ID change feature in the next update. Those are some important basic online element that the PSN should of had day one.

Dark_king5425d ago

@FACTUAL evidence.I don't know why we haven't got the ability to change our PSN ID Japan has had it since day one.

Now CGC is a feature that would be nice I guess but I don't want.It would be a waste of system memory no matter how you look at it.I prefer memory used to improve games not social features.

DragonKnight5425d ago

@vickers500: Wanting something doesn't mean it should be a requirement. The fact remains that the people who b*tch about wanting cross game chat only do so because it's something the 360 has. You're talking about a feature that is completely useless and capable of being performed by other methods. Why the hell should Sony implement another memory drain of a feature just because your lazy ass can't pick up a phone and hit the speaker button, or use Skype? None of these features people b*tch most about are a necessity at all, it's just you highly vocal fankids who like to make everyone think it is just because the 360 has it. The 360 doesn't have a unified Hard drive setup with their console and still sells the Arcade system without a hard drive. Hard drives ARE a necessity yet you don't see MS bending over backwards to be rid of the Arcade console simply because every PS3 has a hard drive in it. Grow up.

@Factual: It isn't necessary because it isn't necessary. A necessity is something you need to have. No one NEEDS to have X game chat. And contrary to what you assume, I would NEVER use it if it came up because I don't need to talk to people playing a different game than I am on my console when I have a phone and a laptop with internet. I'd rather focus on the game I'm playing thanks.

How is voice messaging and changing your PSN ID "important?" You are on here right now using a keyboard to post a comment. Are you telling me that if N4G had voice comments you'd leave one? Doubt it. And changing your PSN ID isn't important. Importance once again implies that there is a pressing need to do something. Why do you NEED to change your PSN ID so badly?

This is the problem here. People like the two of you making overrated features seem like they are a complete necessity in order to enjoy gaming. The games themselves are what you should be enjoying. Sure, there are some bonuses to these features, but if you can't enjoy playing games without them, then there is something wrong with YOU not the console.

vickers5005425d ago

"The fact remains that the people who b*tch about wanting cross game chat only do so because it's something the 360 has. You're talking about a feature that is completely useless"

*facepalm*

Again, we aren't talking about features YOU want you egocentric little brat, we're talking about a feature that A LOT of people want (obviously you aren't one of them), and although you don't want it, A LOT of other people do and would use the hell out of it. Stop assuming every single person shares your opinion that cross game chat is useless, YOU DON'T SPEAK FOR EVERYBODY. Before you try to say the same about me, well I already have proof that A LOT of people (not everyone, but A LOT) of people want cross game chat, so I am correct in assuming I speak for A LOT of people (while you only speak for a select few group of fanboy loyalists).

"Why the hell should Sony implement another memory drain of a feature just because your lazy ass can't pick up a phone and hit the speaker button, or use Skype?"

*facepalm yet again*

Okay, it seems as though you have an extremely limited capacity to think. Okay, well for one, PS3 should be more than capable of handling it (if 360 can do it, ps3 should be able to as well), not to mention the fact that even if it DID bog things down just a little bit, you always have the option of simply CHOOSING NOT TO USE IT. Crazy right? That you would not be forced to use a feature you don't want to use? Really mind blowing stuff here.

About the whole "phone" thing, well first off, it would be incredibly creepy/stalkerish to ask someone on psn who you don't personally know for their phone number, and as for skype, well have you actually tried to tell people who DON'T have Skype to download a program they know nothing about simply just to talk to you? It's not very practical. But even if you did know the person in real life and had their phone number, you still have to micro manage devices independently, and it would be MUCH more convenient and simple to simply do it from the game screen (most features implemented in technology are to streamline convenience and ease of use, so it's not unacceptable to ask for an easier to use communication method on ps3).

vickers5005425d ago

"None of these features people b*tch most about are a necessity at all"

Yeah, no sh*t sherlock. As I said before, neither is in game text messaging or a faster psn store, but if we didn't have those things, it would totally freaking suck. I guess you can't seem to comprehend that just because something isn't needed, does not mean it shouldn't be added. I feel sorry for you and your lack of ability to comprehend that.

"it's just you highly vocal fankids who like to make everyone think it is just because the 360 has it. The 360 doesn't have a unified Hard drive setup with their console and still sells the Arcade system without a hard drive. Hard drives ARE a necessity yet you don't see MS bending over backwards to be rid of the Arcade console simply because every PS3 has a hard drive in it. Grow up."

Lmao. Okay, it seems you think that the only reason I could possibly want x-game chat is because I'm a 360 "fankid" as you so gracefully put it. Listen, I do have a 360, but I only have about 10 games for it, and the newest one out of them I purchased is Gears of War 2 (pretty old). In comparison, I have a 600 dollar launch ps3 with like 45 retail (disc based) ps3 games, and at least 150-200 dollars worth of downloadable content, so there's not much weight in your whole "you're a 360 fankid" argument", I simply recognize that the ps3 could definitely benefit from new features, and I'm not an idiot who thinks it's perfect. Stop bringing up the 360, I didn't mention it ONCE in my original post.

"This is the problem here. People like the two of you making overrated features seem like they are a complete necessity in order to enjoy gaming."

Where did we say that PS3 NEEDS x-game chat, huh? Go on and point to the part of our comments that say x-game chat is NEEDED. Oh wait you can't, because we didn't say that, you're just getting defensive because you're an insecure little fanboy.

Of course it isn't needed, but we aren't saying or acting like it's NEEDED, but we really do WANT it. That's all, and there's nothing wrong with strongly wanting that feature. In game text messaging (you know the feature that allows you to send text messages to your friend without having to quit out of a game?) isn't NEEDED, but it improves the ps3 SUBSTANTIALLY, and x-game chat would do the exact same if they added it.

"The games themselves are what you should be enjoying. Sure, there are some bonuses to these features, but if you can't enjoy playing games without them, then there is something wrong with YOU not the console."

Who says we aren't enjoying the games? Nobody. We are just saying that we would enjoy them a hell of a lot more if we could communicate with other people while playing them. And we also didn't say there was anything wrong with the console, you just made that load of sh** up. We simply say that it would greatly improve the console (because the fact is, it would, even though you wouldn't use the feature or don't care about it).

Please stop acting like such a fanboy and pretending that the ps3 is perfect and couldn't be improved. Everything can be improved, and while the ps3 is certainly better (imo) than all the other consoles out there in terms of everything, there is still a lot of room for improvement, and I would like to see the console improved even more, but obviously you don't.

Yes, bring on the cross-game chat, in-game music for all games, Firefox/chrome for the browser, ..etc rumors.

Istanbull5425d ago

Meh, I still want my time travel ability on PS3

Lovable5426d ago

Expect the "My system overheats after installing the update!" Lol that shit never gets old

Vitalogy5426d ago

HAHA I swear I though of writting that one, you've beated me to it XD

manitobawpg5426d ago

I just hope they remove those unwanted icons on the xmb when playing a game.

WayneKerr5426d ago

cross game chat and Proper in-game music just cant be done on PS3 because the system is not unified.

BlackTar1875426d ago

is that a fact or an assumption?

dangert125426d ago

have you played kz2 online or hustle kings they prove you dead wrong as for cgc its coming

rwarner1745426d ago

I don't even think that was the issue waynekerr. I think the issue was the design of the OS and the amount of available memory the OS can access during gameplay. As they reduce the footprint of the OS they give more room for features such as in game XMB. Over the years they may of finally reduced the OS's memory footprint to the point where running a concurrent chat program is feasible.

I of course could be off, but looking at the headache in game XMB is and they way it performs if would not surprise me.

tman6925426d ago

Should I point out your name (if that's your real name) sounds like wanker when said quickly...lol I think you know that though :D

Possible that the headsets dongle is used for transmitting the audio and the PS3 itself will simulate the effect of 7.1.

Anyhow more features would be nice. Haven't had anything of note in a while other than the usual security stuff.

Top 5 Most Realistic Games

A list of the most realistic games available.

iamnsuperman5187d ago

number 4 ,in my eyes, is a total kick in the groin. Total dis service to the whole tactical genre.

I can't decide if the list was based on what games look realistic or what games are realistic.

3GenGames5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

Battlefield is a FPS primarily that requires teamwork and tactics to win. Doesn't mean it did a dis-service to the tactical genre, it just means none of the tactical genre games were good enough to beat it. Pretty accurate, IMO. Everything in the game is spot on physics and realism-wise. Of course there's some thing that can't be to have a good game, but deal with it.

TooTall195187d ago

Stopped watching after I saw his first 2 choices. What a joke he thinks Battlefield 3 is realistic. It can be tactical, but certainly doesn't need to be played that way in order to succeed.

3GenGames5187d ago

You'll totally be able to win planting 0 bombs in rush or capturing 0 points in conquest, not ever flanking or getting behind people to do said things if your teammates can't. Good luck with that, you've just never played the game right. I also bet you haven't won, either.

TooTall195187d ago

http://battlelog.battlefiel...

Actually I have won a game doing nothing but lone-wolf running and gunning. In fact, I've won quite a few games doing my own thing. I've also been in the top 3 (out of 24) about 28% of the time.

Ejecting from a jet, shooting another jet with a rocket launcher while in mid-air, and then landing back in your jet is NOT realistic. It's fun, but that's not the point of this top 5.

h311rais3r5187d ago

compared to many other games it is realistic. sure there goofy shit u can do but come one. u know why u won lone wolfing? the other team wasnt working as a team or even cared about winning. COD kiddies just want kills

TooTall195187d ago

Okay then 60% of BF3 players don't use tactics is what you're saying. And that's on "hardcore" servers even.

Just because it's more realistic than some other games doesn't mean it deserves to be in a top 5 list.

ExCest5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

You know why you do well? You don't die. You know why? You don't play the objective. Just killing scrubs that can't fight back because they have more important things to do. Like PTFO.

You're one of those people who run up to the bomb, kill everyone, and then run away so you don't die. Without planting/defusing. I hate those people. Don't play BF3 if you're going to do that. Play COD and don't give BF3 a bad name.

Now I sound mean but seriously...

BTW your Battlelog isn't impressive. You lone wolf it but dude, it's fairly unimpressive. I do better by playing the objective. (But I've been sniping recently so I haven't helped the team too much.)

After looking at your Battlelog. You lie. You do play the Objective.

TooTall195187d ago (Edited 5186d ago )

Yes you are right. Your 1.74 W/L ratio and 8 more hours of playtime is so much better than my terrible 1.53 W/L ratio... That's a whopping 3%

Of course I play the objective! Look at my original comment. I go in Rambo-style and take the objectives, cause half of your team is doing their own thing away from the objective.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 5187d ago
ExCest5187d ago

Then name a game that is huge (in a sense that everyone will play) and is also tactical. Nowadays, people like the fast-paced action of FPS so it would be boring if BF3 was all tactical. Everyone would be too cautious and sit back and not die. EVER. Tactical requires a captain who can plan everything but if that happens, it won't be fun because you won't be doing your thing, but instead someone else's.

lorianguy5187d ago (Edited 5187d ago )

For #3, I'd say GT5 is more realistic than Forza. Simply because it is a simulator and puts realism before fun, whereas Forza is very fun but not as realistic as GT5.

I know his list wasn't going to include simulators, but you need them for a realistic game, no?

Series_IIa5187d ago

It's obvious that you nor him have heard of rFactor...

lorianguy5187d ago

Just checked it out. It looks very nice indeed. :)

But I still think GT5 is more realistic.

(Or if you can find a good gameplay video of it, I might change my mind. I don't have much time to look for myself I'm afraid.)

RXL5187d ago

Realistic feeling = if you switch out a mag...you don't get to keep the bullets in the previous mag you just threw away = no games out that are THAT realistic

should've just named this "Games i think are fun and kind of, almost, not really realistic"

Ducky5187d ago

There are games that are smart about weapon reloading.
RedOrchestra is one that I can name off the top of my head, and it isn't even a military sim.

Slugg3r5187d ago

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising did this, although I'd say it gets annoying to use the left overs of your ammo belts when you run out of fresh ones.

ninjahunter5186d ago

There was a game called like swat or something i played along time ago. You start with 4 mags, one in your gun, 3 spares. If you reloaded You would keep the mag but it might only have 1-2 bullets left. Of course that game somewhat tanked it for obvious reasons.

MaximusPrime5187d ago

Well that's Gamersheep's opinion. Respect.

Police Target Xbox Users for Stakeouts, Console Searches

First, it was computers. Then it was cell phones. And now? It's gaming consoles.

Hacktivist group Anonymous recently targeted the email account of a cybercrimes investigator with the California Department of Justice. That hack netted a treasure trove of information related to police use of Xbox and other gaming consoles.

The practice is apparently becoming more and more common.
