New EVO 2 Game Console will feature Android OS

Envizions has announced today through a press release that it will be launching the EVO 2. A new android based game console that will supposedly be available in the United States this fall.

One thing is for sure though: being the fact that Android is open source, people will be modding it and rooting it to copy games.

I'm not giving the product a real chance here, but seriously? It's GBP 250 for a console with no real support, has the innards of a cell phone and boast some random socializing features.

They have to seriously show me a lot more than that for that price! The Wii is a way better deal, let alone the Xbox 360 or PS3.

?? why make the OS android 2.2? That's better suited for touchscreens...and small screens. Give me a entirely new google OS for gaming consoles (like honeycomb and tablets) and I'll be more interested

I love how they recycled the cases from the old Logitech Cordless Action controllers for the PS2. They must've run into a big old stockpile of those things and decided to save a few bucks. Brilliant!

retail $249.00 does seem high but when they are selling the units outright for $249.00 which it seems the retail an the developer unit is the exact same unit except for software. the company would it seem make some pretty good money on every unit sold.

their orig units was mainly a Linux PC meant to run games like a Linux PC so this is along their same lines, sticking with advancing Linux as a platform for gaming.

With Android OS they may be able to do it. if this gets "Playstation Suite Certified" which we do not know if it or it ever will, this could very well be a gold mine for developer's, indie an maybe even companies not that far into the game industry as the Big three are.

Who knows with Sony's new playstation Suite selling games that are on non Sony hardware. the EV0 2 MAY EVEN BE Android OS 2.3 flash updateable it's processor is plenty capable an this put's it inline with the spec's of the XPERIA-PlAY.

So is this some way to come home and play your Cell Phone games on your T.V.? I really don't see this going any where. sure the Tegra 2 is very good but you will not be doing Hi Def 3D gaming except for maybe Quake 3 arena in Low Def.

Specifications include a Samsung 1.2 GHZ processor, DDR2-512MB

there is also a TEGRA 2 inside this thing, so no it's not worse than the Wii. this stomps on all over the Wii in specs.

but that does not matter it's the games that do matter anyway. but the very fact that this unit is so cheap many developers may jump on development for this system.

oh brother, have you seen the new recent game engines for these chipsets?

if so you would not even be trying to make a claim like that. the Tegra 2 is more than capable of outputing HD gaming.

it's not only them idSoft,the Epic Games RECENT NEW COMPILED Unreal engine, Unity3D all of which already run on the Arm core processors such as the Tegra 2 an in HD

Which runs IN HD at 60 FPS an not in LOW DEF.

the TEGRA 2 compares very well to DESKTOP That is Once again "Desktop" GPU'S from 3 to 4 years ago which may seem outdated but even GPU's from 3 to 4 years ago can do HD..hey what do you know the xbox360 an the PS3's GPU's are from 3 years ago.

Hey if you re-read my post you will realize that......

A. not only did I mention the Tegra 2 but

B. I provided some Gaming Benchmarks to firmly back up my statements...Oooh Ahhhh.

C. if you carefully read those Benchmarks (and not gloss over like YOU did) you will easily see that the Tegra 2 barely runs Quake 3 at 1024 X 600 resolution.

D. The Upcoming Tegra 3 (Code-Nmae Kal-el) can not beat a low end Intel Core 2 Duo.

an this was not about freaking PC's but since you brought it up!

a) I also provided a source for THE PROOF that unlike your claim the Tegra 2 is more than capable of outputting games in HD.

every processor company codes these benchmarks to test the processor cores an not every area of the core will outperform every other area of every other core that's just life but it does not take away the fact that you can program to the strength's of each system.

an it's about the game engines driving the hardware..which has been shown that the spec's are no where near the final say so in how the system will perform.

I have proved that the Chip can run games IN HD which you stated it could not.

i proved it other wise that it can, so you may know PC hardware very well but this is not about PC hardware, this is about Mobile Hardware , which i happen to know very well.

it has 512 MB or ram

with a Dual Core A9's @ 1 GHz each core

Show me some benchmarks of a Tegra 2 running a 3D game at the resolution 1920 x 1080p above 30 FPS and only then will I apologize for being wrong!
