I like Sony exclusives and all but the whole AAA tag line is a big misleading. AAA really means lots of money behind the game than quality. I think Sony produces some of the best exclusive games but labelling this AAA already means lots of funding but not necessarily good quality. Kind of like The Spiderman films. Lots of investment and big blockbuster but poor in quality

THWIP715484d ago

...I can remember games like Lair and HAZE being labelled AAA by some. LOL...

thereapersson5484d ago

What was that game that was announced a while back that featured a female character in a desert setting... I think there was something about transformation in it. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

elbeasto865484d ago

@thereapersson You're talking about Journey I think. It's gonna be a downloadable title.

jaosobno5484d ago

DEMON'S SOULS 2!!!!!!!!!

himdeel5484d ago (Edited 5484d ago )

Demon Souls 2 would be my very first choice also jaosobno even with Dark Souls dropping this year!

Jack-H5484d ago

Lol ouch. I'm a PS3 user but you just helped me snap back into reality..... I hope it's better than HAZE -_- WILD INTERNET SPECULATION!!

TheDivine5484d ago

Heck yea hope its good cant wait 2 see the trailer. Ps3 needs some wrpgs it only has one and thats demons souls which is japanese developed lol, def lacking there. Both consoles need jrpgs despratly imho, hopefully E3 rocks and holds some suprises.

opinska5483d ago

I agree - look at Hawken, AAA game on an indie budget. This sounds like a serious title though: Sony backing, RGP, 3 years in the making... sounds a little like Deus Ex/Mass Effect so far

F4sterTh4nFTL5484d ago (Edited 5484d ago )

...Turismo 5, Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, Demon's Souls, Wipeout HD + Fury, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Heavy Rain, Resistance 2, Resistance: Fall of Man, inFamous, Warhawk, MotorStorm, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, ModNation Racers, Yakuza 3, Heavenly Sword, Yakuza 4, MotorStorm: Apocalypse are all AA games that wanted to become AAA but didn't. But they are all fine games but the word AAA is too much misused and disrespectful to the developers of these games and other games who put a lot of effort to make these games despite having a big or small budget.

midgard2275484d ago

and what? you think halo, gears and cod are AAA? please, I'd really like to know whatt game you consider AAA.

kerrak5484d ago

i'll tell it to you: he took any ps3 exclusive that didn't reach 90 on metacritic. That's his definition of AAA: 90+ on metacritic. Pretty simple criteria for somebody who lacks his own opinion.
His list is so flawed, it's not even funny to comment. Demon's Souls an aspiring AAA??? lol

Max_Dissatisfaction5484d ago

^ halo reach 91 = AAA
Gears of War 1 & 2 94 and 93(?) = AAA
CoD MW 1 & 2 94 and 95(?) = AAA
So, yes they are AAA. Just correcting you.

DrillaKid5484d ago

Since when do ratings have anything to do with AAA status? It's about budget and development time. Some AAA games just don't meet the hype that you would expect with a big budget but that doesn't change their status. Same goes for movies (Sahara anyone?).

DrillaKid5484d ago

^
A game's rating doesnt determine status; it's to do with budget and development time. When a game is given a big budget it's a AAA rated game regardless of what scores it gets when released; this is why some games are termed "flops" or simply not meeting the hype.

The same applies to movies (Sahara and Waterworld anyone?)

TheGreatIndonesia5484d ago (Edited 5484d ago )

if you look into metacritics ps3 has more 90+ exclusives (media disc game) than 360... sony with their swarming of exclusives often produce an AAA title if you think AAA title is based on metacritic scores

a little OOT
"Kind of like The Spiderman films. Lots of investment and big blockbuster but poor in quality"

Yeah right. I take Spiderman 1 & 2 (3 was crap, i admit that) rather than the crappy Superman Returns -_-

On topic
AAA? well, let's just see what they have in E3

subtenko5484d ago

yea, should be AAAA. You know Sony's on a different level when it comes to games, haha

Commander_TK5484d ago

Eh... The Spider-Man films r fantastic.

Theyellowflash305484d ago

Yeah I don't understand the AAA tagline. What does that mean these days? I always thought it meant the quality of the game, how good the game is, no matter how much money is spent on it. I guess now AAA means how much money you pump into a project. Homefront was supposedly a AAA game but i don't see it that way. Games should come out and be reviewed first before we tag them with AAA or not.

digimau5484d ago

The last COD Game is very AAA Game??? I not sure....

Graphic Engine Old and 4 Hours gameplay in Single Player.. bah

A AAA Game depend now from famous Brand????

Please......

DragonKnight5484d ago

Call me ignorant but, who is DONTNOD Entertainment? Have they done anything we'd know about?

If not, how can this article claim the game is AAA in either funding or quality?

skyward5484d ago

It's their first game and a new IP - the studio claims it's 'AAA'...

DragonKnight5484d ago

Thank you for the clarification. So a "new" studio is making their first game on consoles and they think they can call it "AAA?" They better hope they're talking about funding, because if they're talking about quality then they have to know that their first game will be the basis by which most will judge all of their future games as well.

BTW, only on N4G can one disagree with a question.

SweatyFlorida5484d ago

@dragonknight wasn't Halo Bungie's 1st game? Look where that got them! Experience helps, but great things come from creative minds.

DragonKnight5484d ago

@SweatyFlorida: I never made an assumption of their skill, merely stated that they shouldn't try to classify their first game as a studio as AAA if they have no history of said quality/funding to back such a claim up.

And actually, I believe that Marathon was Bungie's first game, though I could be wrong. Regardless, Bungie didn't overhype their game.

MidnytRain5484d ago

This is the concept art and video that was released a while back for Adrift.

Peaceful_Jelly5484d ago (Edited 5484d ago )

is their first game as a "new studio" but all the employees are veterans (ex-Criterion and Ubisoft staffers). Triple A has always meant "budget", it was the fanboys who changed its definition to "90% plus games". Below 90 then the game must suck right?

Just look at @FasterThanFTL for an example of a typical fanboy comment.

Bigbangbing5484d ago

PS3 exclusive powered by Unreal Engine 3? WHY?

skyward5484d ago

It wasn't always PS3-exclusive

subtenko5484d ago

I agree, wtf, use a sony 1st party engine! Use killzone3 or somethin. Maybe they started developing it and just stayed with the UE3 engine. oh well... =( at least that engine is pretty good tho

nightmarex1215484d ago

B/c it was up for grabs, they didn't have a publisher for a while, they dont have a track record, but when the developers showed it sony must have thought it look good so they bought the rights to published it. It could have been mult or a 360 exclusive, would have depend on who would have published it.

Cool. I won't play their games unless they're free to me from now on.

Inverno1947d ago

Wellp add that to the list of devs not to buy anything from. Maybe I'm overreacting, but Tencent can fly right off

-Foxtrot1947d ago

Why? Can they please just f*** off

These companies are why big companies bow down to China

It sounds silly to be like "I'm not supporting them in the future" but do we really want more live service things, MTs, Loot boxes an other money grabbing shit. Remember how innocent DLC was once upon a time.

phoenixwing1947d ago (Edited 1947d ago )

I buy dlc from time to time when it's decent like in The Witcher 3 but I share your sentiment. I grew up when gaming was in its infancy and now it feels like dlc is the name of the game and not something that happened after the fact. Also I'm wary of Chinese companies due to how controlling China is. Oh wait I confused China with America...oh wait.. it's so hard to tell the difference these days lol (laughing only because that's about all there is to do)

Deathdeliverer1947d ago

Have they created anything that was as good as life as strange was since? Next question is how tf are these Chinese companies on such a spending spree? I swear that money seeming endless.

blacktiger1947d ago

Tencent buying America after Biden won. NICE!
