We play games almost all day long, and during that time there are things that we enjoy and dislike. However, most of the things that we dislike are usually specific to a certain game — this has not been the case recently. Most of these trends are not too out of hand just yet, and we hope that they stay that way. Let us know if you agree/disagree or have noticed something that we left out. Get ready for a little bit of nerd rage, because we’re about to tell you the four trends that we think are ruining gaming.

Microsoft announced its financial results for Q3 of fiscal year 2026, including an update on its gaming Xbox business and more.
Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.
To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Thanks to the slip-up of an artist working on the title, we now have more evidence that a new Injustice game is in the works.

Spiders: "We're going to cut straight to the chase so you're not left wondering: After a long period without clear answers, we have received confirmation that Spiders is being liquidated.
What does it mean? This means the company as a whole no longer exists. We'll cease our functions immediately. The planned DLC will release via Nacon, and then-- well, that's it.
We're sorry that it's come to this and would like to thank each and every one of you for your support over the years.
If you have any questions or run into issues with your games, please contact Nacon directly as we'll no longer be able to reply."
I have to agree with the excessive download content and beta testing. He also should have talked about games that have dlc that should have been part of the game in the first place.
The own to play thing is the trend that I'm not liking the most. There's been too many games where I'd shell out $60+ and they are just not worth it. The solution is to rent the games or buy them used because they are simply not worth it. Now I have to have a code in order to play the games that I rent/buy used? GTFO. That will make me even less likely to consider the game.
Two trends that imo are worse than those 4:
1. Faulty coded, glitchy games that become broken again at some point every time they are patched - and the acceptance of this as the norm, and o.k.
2. A horrendous saturation of the market of shooters based on the demand of a few million relative Johnny-come-lately's. The genre is leaking into everything else, and many people only see gaming through the shooting lens. Unfortunately, when those angry, hyperactive, A.D.D. gamers get bored, we're going to have a few major companies that are hurting big time.
I think Homefront got it right. You can play online for free but only rank upto level 5. You can keep going but dont rank any further. Then the online pass is only £6. I rented the game and thought it was worth the extra few quid.
Very good article and I agree with all of it 100%.
I will give a 5th item that will kill gaming, too many games released at a time.
You can only divide the pie in so many ways, until the slice is so thin that you starve to death.
