Conduit 2 Gets Amazon-Bombed - Immaturity Abounds

"Just one day after my post, drama broke-out between High Voltage Software(HVS) and Joystiq.com's "reviewer" of Conduit 2. An internal HVS email was leaked, showing that HVS employees were encouraged to read/rate Joystiq.com's Conduit 2 reviewer's book he had written and had available for purchase on Amazon.com. The email did not specify what rating to give the book, but considering the review score was 1 out of 5 Stars from Joystiq.com for Conduit 2, I would assume that is what was hoped for in retaliation reviews as well.
Initially after the email was sent internally negative reviews started appearing on the "reviewer's" book on Amazon.com, but then after the email was made public by MaroonersRock.com, some of those negative reviews started disappearing.

As for Conduit 2, the game had a customer review score average of 4.5 out of 5 Stars on Amazon.com, based on 13 customer reviews as of 12:30AM on May 17, 2011. Conduit 2's customer review score average was 87.69%, based on 13 customer reviews from Tuesday.

It appears the news of the internal email at HVS has caused more negative reviews to pop up on Conduit 2 though, than the "reviewer's" own book. Let's take a look.", says CoffeeWithGames in the introduction section.

What do you guys think? Is HVS only at fault, or does this "reviewer" also have some blame to bear? Do you think Joystiq.com's editor(s) have any blame to bear in this situation for allowing such a "review" to be published?

I am now going to write an "article" about a "blogger" who "blogged" about a stupid "conflict" between a "blog site" and a game developer, it should be equally pointless as this article.

Tip of the day: don't refer to writers who are clearly (utterly and completely) superior to yourself in demeaning ways such as you have done in this article. It makes you look like a child, a very immature and silly child who is desperate for hits.

Sorry for being an ass, I'm just tired of noname sites like yours polluting the main page of what was once a great site, you know, n4g.

Cue supportive and politically correct comments:

what once was a great site?
You're out of your mind saying that.

You don't have to like it, but don't be an ass about it.

"It makes you look like a child, a very immature and silly child who is desperate for hits."
Based on what? It's not a desperate attempt for hits at all, the fact is I had the review scores published before this drama broke-out, and I saw the review scores after it happened...as is shown in the post.

"Sorry for being an ass, I'm just tired of noname sites like yours polluting the main page of what was once a great site, you know, n4g."
I would agree if I was doing, "Top 10 Awesome Games of 2012!", but I don't do those stories.

"Tip of the day: don't refer to writers who are clearly (utterly and completely) superior to yourself in demeaning ways such as you have done in this article."
How so? If you read his "review", I think you could tell it should not have been allowed to be posted as a full "review"...

Well, looking at the original review it's definitely taken it beyond a professional level to a personal level, and the criticism levelled at it is clearly more than unfair.

And while I would like to think HVS would remain professional and not take it down to his level, I can't really blame them for what they did. The reviewer took it to a personal level in the first place, and perhaps a better resolution would have been reached if he had apologised in lieu of the reviews on his book, and HVS could have apologised back.

As it is, I don't know why a bunch of idiots who this doesn't concern need to go and give it overly negative reviews on Amazon on purpose, the conflict had gone far enough already. Aye caramba. Interesting article anyway, and I mainly agree with your points :), except I have a little more hatred for poor journalism than HVS' retaliation.

To be fair, HVS started it when they "retaliated" against a good review of a bad game.

FPS Friday - Conduit 2 has been played how much? Official U.S. Nintendo Channel data report.

"Conduit 2 released as an exclusive Wii FPS just over 2 years ago now, on April 19, 2011. The game received an ESRB rating of "TEEN" with "Animated Blood, Language, Mild Suggestive Themes, Violence" listed as content for parents and gamers to be aware of. It was the sequel to the other exclusive Wii FPS The Conduit, which released in 2009.

While there really hasn't been a hint of the Wii U getting Conduit 3 yet, did U.S. Wii owners enjoy Conduit 2? How many hours have U.S. Wii owners reported playing Conduit 2, since it released just over 2 years ago, and how do its averaged hours "Per person" compare to some other Wii FPS games? Brew yourself some coffee, and let's take a look!", writes CoffeeWithGames.
