L.A. Noire Review | CheatCC

CheatCC says - In the venal world of film noir and its hard-boiled literary counterpart, few stories end happily. It's not uncommon to see tales of hapless everymen and working schlubs that are pushed or duped into tawdry affairs, criminal scheming, and murder. Characters who aren't willing to give up a little of their humanity for a chance at more material happiness are a rare occurrence. Even if the private eyes or cops get their man, there's always a price. Sleuths go back to a life of loveless, alcoholic, world-weary cynicism, while police may turn a blind eye to dirty politics. This is just the way things work in a genre that deals almost exclusively with servicing the darker psychological desires inherent in humanity.

Would it have killed you to go ahead and give the game a 5? 4.7 is such an odd score. Hell, 4.9 is less akward. But 4.7....

nopunctuation5520d ago

Eh its better than giving it an 8.5 like ign. A 4.7 translates to a 9.4/10 so that is a good score.

MintBerryCrunch5520d ago

1-1.9:Avoid
2-2.4:Poor
2.5-2.9:Average
3-3.4:Fair
3.5-3.9:Good
4-4.4:Great
4.5-4.9:Must Buy
5:The Best

so whats wrong with their grading system? they have been doing it this way for a long time anyways

I'm sure you wouldn't be happy if I offered you 4.7 million dollars either, right? Well you're just out of luck today because I'm not rounding up to 5 for you either. Sorry.

I wouldn't eat at a 4.7 star restaurant.

It's kind of weird to get into that much detail when you're using a four or five point scale - it just doesn't look right.

Hopefully McNamara is as far away from this as possible he set up shop in Australia then did nothing but complain about Australian labour laws while trying to make his workers live at the office working 24/7 on la noire punishing them for leaving at 3 am and being 10 minutes late to work at 9am the next day.

It's astonishing that none of the workers went to the fair work ombudsman as the studio would have been fined astronomical numbers

Brendan McNamara is a brilliant writer and director but he should never, ever be in charge of a studio. What he did to those devs was far beyond "crunch", and it went on for, what, 7 years? That's insane.

But I'm glad to see some of that team have come together again to create something new. A psychological thriller sounds right up my alley.

I would have liked to see a new noir game.
