Sony: “It’s Impossible To Please Everyone” With Welcome Back Pack

Yesterday Sony detailed the “welcome back” package it’d promised all PSN users a few days after it announced the service had been severely hacked, and while some are very well pleased with the package, others are disgusted with it, saying it’s not enough. Of course, Sony knew there’d be disgruntled users, but like in any other case, you simply can’t please everyone.

Very True, I on one hand am very happy with this, Wipeout, Quest for booty, free month of ps+, that music thing. Plus I heard we might get 10 free movie rentals.

Vherostar5494d ago

I agree there will be people with all them games I luckily no longer have infamous so I will get that again and I will get Dead Nation too I got the rest on my hard drive already so its not like I could have traded those in.

killcycle5494d ago (Edited 5494d ago )

But c'mon be real for a minute.

LBP?
Free to all PS+ users from day one and has been stuck at the bottom of the section since the beginning so why put that there?

The rest are great.

dragon825494d ago

It was not free to "all PS+ users. It was free to EU PS+ users. The rest of us didn't get it with PS+.

BattleAxe5493d ago

Don't forget that PS+ users get 60 days free too.

Istanbull5494d ago

People who dont like it should GTFO, ungrateful greedy kids. We should be glad we get anything at all.

Thank you Sony! I had WipEout HD but not Fury, you saved me 10 euros, thanks!

hay5494d ago

Greedy kids? The thing with the "Welcome back program" is that it leaves most dedicated PS3/PSP supporters least "rewarded".
Person who bought all of those games already or at least most of them will have nothing to pick for them except additional 2 months of PSN+.

It's like with the games. You're dedicated, buy addons, and months later there's GOTY edition that gives the same for much less without even thanking you for the fact, that thanks to you among other people this game could've been GOTY in the first place.
It's hard to call it "fanbase" when they treat you as mere money resource and it's even harder to be happy about it.

dangert125494d ago

greedy kids? greed? i have paid for everything but one thing there offering and your calling me greedy? shut up man

imagine your favorite team give you a jersery from a few years ago at a exclusive discounted price just for the premium members then less then a year before there giving it everyone for free and you'd be happy with that course you would course anything else is just greed twat ¬_¬

NothingToGainButLove5494d ago

@hay

Well you paid a premium for being able to play that content before the people who bought the game of the year edition...

joeorc5493d ago (Edited 5493d ago )

"is that it leaves most dedicated PS3/PSP supporters least "rewarded".
Person who bought all of those games already or at least most of them will have nothing to pick for them except additional 2 months of PSN+. "

I understand your frustration, but you are getting something you did not have before an that is still a free exclusive game!

you will still get something you do not have!

PlayStation Home -

will be offering 100 free virtual items. Additional free content will be released soon, including the next addition to the Home Mansion personal space, and Ooblag’s Alien Casino, an exclusive game."

"Ooblag’s Alien Casino"

is a free exclusive game, So that is a Game you do not have. You may say Well i could care less about Home, which may be your IDEA an Opinion but they are still giving you a free game, So even still Even if you had all the PS3 an PSP games you are still getting 2 months of free PSN+, Playstation Home Exclusive game,an there is still digital copy's of the games you already own, so that may be duplicates, but you are still getting a free game.

But unfortunately u need ps+ to play the 2 games you choose :P Which is a bummer ^^

EDIT at below: I clearly misinterpreted it ^^ So you won't need ps+ ^^ tnx for clarifying :)

5494d ago
YourFlyness5494d ago (Edited 5494d ago )

no you dont, those 2 games you pick are availiable forever.

"All PlayStation Network customers can select two PS3 games from the following list. The games will be available for 30 days shortly after PlayStation Store is restored and can be kept forever."

The 2 free games and the PSN+ access are seperate

LocO_o5494d ago

Agreed!!!Sony has been fantastic and I dont see why people still feel like Sony owes them anything.

Sony giving us FREE PSN is more than enough on Sony's part.

princejb1345494d ago

im please also, theres games i didnt have which i wanted
is not like sony really owes us anything anyway, psn is a free service is not like we was paying for it

dangert125494d ago

@ killcycle
i got
wipeout and lil big planet 1st month of ps+
imfamous in the 2nd mnths discounts
ratchet and clank quest for booty before plus but it was month 3 sign up bonus
and dead nation 2 was a discount on ps+
every single game they put on there is affiliated with ps+

why could't i get flower? or something else maybe even a psn 1 game syphon filter 3

killcycle5494d ago

Thats a very interesting point.

I also own every single game there but i think putting LBP on the list was a real slap in the face because it's been free since the beginning for + users.

I think the reason they reward the less loyal is to make try and maybe turn them into loyal customers so they can make money from them.

Either way it's a bitch.
I don't buy content from the store anymore because of a similair ridiculous incident with the game Shatter.

DeadlyFire5494d ago

You get PSN for free. Since when do you need more than that?

JamieLeeC935494d ago

If it's true that we'll get 10 free movie rentals, then that's just awesome.

TBM5493d ago

So true, I've said it from the beginning of this gen the majority of the gamers this gen are really ungrateful, and feel they are deserved more then they should get.

OllieBoy5494d ago

I'm happy they're giving out these great games, but I'm not getting much out of it. They should just call it "Welcome" because it only benefits newer PS3 owners and jackasses who rarely play theirs.

I mean come on, what longtime PS3 owner doesn't own Super Stardust? That's just trolling.

quiddd5494d ago

I agree. It honestly seems as though people want a voucher for a free game that hasn't come out yet.

chasegarcia5494d ago

I own more than half of those free games but, I will not complain.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8534d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele34d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk33d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay33d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10134d ago (Edited 34d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit33d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg33d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10133d ago (Edited 33d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14934d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle47d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit47d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog47d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog47d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad47d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_47d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage47d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda47d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
