PS3 only games are already showing its advanced powers. Its why games like HS (couldnt even fit the audio on a 360) Warhawk (couldnt play 32ppl lag free on XBL) KZ2 (couldnt even fit on the 360 format) MGS (yea cant fit without cutting corners on a 360) and alot of other exclusives will prove and have proved we wont be waiting 4-6years to see what the system can do!

THe next Xbox, is going to be the same as the ps3. Meaning that ps3 is two generetion ahead. Didnt you read the news where now microsoft want to install hd dvd into their xbox360? the new 360 is basically a ps3, by the time this sku is released the ps3 install base will be to high and blueray will already be dominating the market, And on top of that the ps3 will be cheaper by then. So basically Sony is the smarter company from the start.

well thats not news we all(includin xbox owners) know this, its the developers who have gotten lazy and want a quick fix so start their games on the xbox and then when it comes to the ps3 realize they havnt got the knowledge (duno how they graduated!) to use a more complex system which in the end will giv you more options so decide to bash the ps3 instead of admittin ok were not as smart as we thought we were so sometimes ps3 games may run at frames lower coz we just thought we could transfer our code from the xbox to ps3!, take the time stop think swallow your pride admit you were in the right place at the right time and was lucky to get your programmin job go back to school and start your games from the ground up on ps3 before you get left behind!

Who didn't know this already? But if he doesn't think that developers will take full advantage of it for another 4 years, then that will be wasted potential. I don't think Sony can wait that long for 3rd parties to catch on. Right now they have to rely on their own development houses to carry the load. They never had to do that before.

The 360 and the 10megs of EDRAM that are the right size for 480p and too small for real HD/720p next gen graphics is making life a nightmare for developers stuck doing 360 games. The 360 rendering architecture is by far the most poorly designed graphics hardware ever in a console - and it shows. Just look at the 360 'showcase title' Halo 3 - it can't even run in HD/720p, is plagued with lack of AA/jaggies, and looks like a last gen game - and on top of that it still can't even maintain anywhere near 30fps.

What is going to happen, if Microsoft doesn't pull the plug on the 360 first, is developers are going to start doing real next gen games on the PS3 and doing simultaneous 480p/tiny disc sized last gen type games for the 360 and Wii.

Makes sense since both the 360 and Wii are 480p machines.

Gamers win because you no longer have the 360 acting like a boat anchor killing graphics and game sizes due to the crappy 7gig DVD drive and retarded 360 graphics system.

Developers win because you no longer have to deal with the nightmare of trying to get decent 720p graphics out of the 480p 360 hardware.

the PS3 is so advanced that all the multiplatform games on it look and play worse compared to Xbox 360, which runs games like Madden 08 at 60fps compared to the PS3s 30fps. It is already obvious the console is poorly designed and inefficient as a gaming machine and its specs on paper do not live up to the reality, which is that the PS3 is the most expensive console to make yet the Xbox 360 can run games far better because it is a better designed gaming console which makes it the most powerful games machine of this generation

i think the gaming industry needs a new hardware direction there only so long left of the old architecture before they cant do no more and maybe the hardware in the ps3 is a step in the right direction.

only time will tell and game producers need to learn some new skills, or they will all end up making mobile phone games (john carmack).

year 2 and year 3 of the ps3s life are alreadying looking incredible and year one ps3 games both exclusive andmultiplatform are matching the 360's year 2 2nd and 3rd gen games graphically while some, being first party are already surpassing them. while it will take about 45-60 percent of the industry to get on the level sony's first and second party are at in the 2-4 years, devs like kojima and GG, and Media molecue, Insomniac and Naughtydog, free radical, Teamn Ninja and Epic. all those talented devs are already making lazy ass devs like EA look as if they dont know what they are doing.

so yes while it will take most devs that long to get on the ball. the ones Sony needs to survive are already doing games that are dropping between now and next year. plus Sony's got some strong first party titles that are totally kicking but as well.

The ps3 is going to dominate this console generation. Sony was thinking about the future when they released their System. They didnt rushed and released their system with an overheating problem like microsoft.In 08 with game like mgs4 and ff13 and grant turismo, i dont see how any gamer can refuse this line up. the ps3 is the best system out right now and the games are starting to release little by little.

Well, i think Sony could also make cars like Porsche but with a joystick not a wheel, that would be the next-gen for cars. But nobody would care.

You have to understand that the ps3 has 11 months in the marker and in some countrys it only has 7 months. All the best 360 game came out almost a year before the 360 was released. Gears of wars came out a year later halo came out a year and 8 months later and bioshoch came out a year and 8 months later. So you have to understand people cannot bash ps3 for not having no games.

just be content with what game console you have

The real question is will developers actually take the time to take full potential of the PS3 hardware? If they can spend less time and resources to make a game for another console with a larger install base and easier tools to work with, then they may not care about all of the extra power if they can do something just as good in less the time. Should be interesting to see how things turn out in the next few years.

Everyone knows the PS3 is more advanced than any console to date. It has awesome power however, Microsoft has made a nice antisony campaign. Forcing everyone to develop for their console and paying off magazines and developers to destroy Sonys PS3. Why, well MS has always done this. This is a market takeover way of doing business.
The problem is that if devs do not learn this new tech others will take over. New devs who want to get into the market, and the winner is Sony. Future games will be even more realistic thanks to the power of the PS3. Forget dirty takeovers and the 360. I only hope that the next gen MS console will be better or they will loose again.

Both are good consoles and will offer up much enjoyment to those willing to give them a chance.

had a n64 the gen before last then got an xbox cause it was the best the following gen then i finally got my hands on my first playstation of any kind (ie ps3) for the simple fact it was suppose to be the top dog this gen at first i was feeling a bit let down but that starting to change hurry up uncharted

All multi plat games look the same on the ps3.. Some might look a slight better on the 360 and some a little better on the ps3 but this is the 2nd gen games for the 360 to the ps3s 1st gen games..

Than you have ps3's exclusives which a lot of them look better than any 360 game to date.. And are pushing 60 frames at 1080p with 40 players online or 16 cars racing on line at 60 frames and 1080p..

Best looking game still to date for the 360 is gears of war..

Still waiting for the games to prove it. Of course you can only make a port look so good LOL!

PLAY BEYOND the limitations of sh1tty hardware

All the XBox thingie is, is a strategy to keep Sony from moving out of the console territory into the desktop market with Linux on PS3. If it takes off it will eat into the Windows market and MS will lose the initiative. They will throw Billions more into the hole to keep the consoles away from the Windows market. If a PS3 with Linux and OpenOffice becomes too common, it will cause MS to loose a potential Media Centre sale... and the consumer will be hooked onto Linux as desktop OS early on. They will fight with everything in their power to keep the PS3 down - even if they have to loose another 20 Billion dollars on it. So forget about the comments that MS will pull out of the console market. Any other company would pull out of such a financial fiasco - because that is all the XBox / XB360 was up to this point - a giant hole swallowing Billions of dollars with no end in sight.

For those who are OK with the MS strategy - you will get hardware subsidized every gen - against all business principles.

If I was at MS - and I was briefed to protect the Windows OS / Office cash cows at all and any cost - the PS3 with Linux would be high on my radar.

lets just say i know many developers who are working on both consoles,and suffice it to say,the ps3 is not as powerful as you were led to believe...to think that a multi core cell works for gaming is wrong as well...sony was forced to sell its cell properties to hddvd rival toshiba,why? because EVERY developer out there hates the way it runs,and how much time they need to invest to make games..simply put the cell was a test for gaming and it didnt work...if you were to look at the both chipsets etc,you would think the ps3 would be a bit more powerful,but in truth its the other way around...the 360 is the more powerful and efficient machine,though only slightly..the 360 was designed with help from many developers,to make a super easy freindly to develop for console,the ps3 was not..in fact sony is more concerned about winning the blueray format than anything else...to think that somehow ps3 games well blow everything out of the water is just plain wrong..you wont see games on the ps3 that the 360 couldnt do,and to an extent vice versa,though ports from the 360 to the ps3 arent as easy for developers as they should be..look at both systems closely,and youd think the ps3 is slightly more powerful,but look even more closely and you see its really the other way around...the proof well be in the unreal games,as epic has the game done on the 360 at 60fps,yet the ps3 game is having huge,huge issues...this is the truth,though its good activision has sonys backl,because they need it..

How many multiplat games use all of Cpu's of the 360 but only the main PPE of the PS3? There are 6 SPU's not being used!

PS3 has the most potential but the hardest to develop for. I think everyone agrees with this. The question is when and how fast they could fully utilize its full potential. If reports are correct that current PS3 games are only using a tiny fraction of the PS3 full potential. The future of gaming on the PS platform looks bright. I for one would really like a different experience from the tired old gameplay we had since the PS1 era. Have you guys notice that since the move form 2d to 3d nothing much has changed beside graphics?. Yes games like SOTC, GTA and MGS franchise have been revolutionary but there are too few of them.

ps3 is not hard to develop for ask all good devs end of, what they say its getting the most out of it,insonmiac and naughty dog have used two spu,s and they don,t run close to there limit

the PS3 reminds me ALOT of the old Xbox , powerful lots of potential and not the greatest games....
the Xbox 360 reminds me of the PS2, strong start and stayed on top only because of the great games

MGS4, LBP, Killzone 2, Gt5, Tekken 6, Wardevil, Heavy Rain, Afrika and more say hi. And they're coming next year btw :)

But you'll still see great things. PS3 is a hard beast to program for, and it has a ton of undiscovered potential. 360 has almost reached its peak, that's why Halo 3 had to be rendered in 640p and PGR4 had to be cut in pieces.

Let me take real examples

1) motorstorm is the first racing game ive seen that makes the race track really feel like a 3d environment, plus its the one only racing game t hat uses physics like MAD..... maybe too much

2) heavenly sword cutscenes are REAL time except for a few. I was skeptical at first till I saw the thrashing of shadows. This is why some of the cutscenes are choppy

3)blu-ray need I say more

4) 40 player resistance fall of man multiplayer... we have seen this in a pc realm but so rare in a console environment... i was actually surprised there was rarely any lag

6)first console that ive ever seen actually back away from proprietory interfaces (power cable standard pc cable, hdmi cable, NO more over priced memory cards, headset can be taken from your cell phone or standard usb headset, mouse and kb, flash memory, and stand laptop hd for upgrades) Im sorry the ps3 is moving towards a multimedia device just like a pc.

7) although not advanced but cool like the wii slot loading discs... dont worry about scratches blu-ray discs have protective coating

8) you can actually install a separate os,,, too bad we cant put windows

that the learning curve, will take from 4 to 5 years to truly understand and use the power of the ps3 and make games with this knowledge, it's normal, look at the launch games of the ps2, like Fantavision, after look at the second generation games like Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy X after the 1.5 years and in the end look at the God of War 1 and 2 marvels after the 5 years time......there is a learning curve in order to have the maximum from a system, and the point is that the games until this 4-5 years won't suck, like Devil May Cry and Final Fantasy X games with their not maxed out graphics didn't really suck. So the things will get only better for the PS3, not the same for the 360 unfortunately, the main exclusives are out an there are already hardware limitations that make problems to the developers, and this problems doesn't have a learning curve, they are here to stay.

I'm glad that a developer realizes the potential in the PS3 but the problem is the PS3 has to survive for 4 or 5 years. I think the console will survive this long but it will be hard and will definitely take it's toll on Sony(Though by then the consumer electronics division should be highly profitable).

The Game boy(black and white) was significantly worse than the Game Gear, and Turbo Express... Yet it blew them out of the water sales wise.

The Game Boy Advanced blew the Neo Geo out of the water.

The DS is whooping the PSP.

The NES(16 Colors 1.79 MHZ) Beat the Sega Master system (32/64 Colors 3.57Mhz)

The PS2 out sold the Xbox though the Xbox was significantly more powerful.

this entire market has boiled down to a Microsoft vs. Sony competition (theres nintendo, of course- the green party of consoles). and while so many of us sit around and gush about our choice of system, we sometimes fail to remember that competition is what makes video gaming better. it forces these companies to continue releasing newer, more advanced products for us to play. if the ps3 is the more advanced system, then you know microsoft is going to develop a new technology to rival that (and so on and so on). bottom line- we see better, more innovative games on bigger and better platforms. isnt that the whole point?

so stop whining and start embracing competition. it is the backbone of business and this whole industry. without it we'd all still be playing zorg and saying no rpg will ever be better. f#&k that.

i hope this is a joke, because the ps3 is already outdated graphically...sure the games well look a bit better,but many games are already pushing the hardware..if you think the ps3 is this powerful juggernaut..your wrong...the ps3 is hard to code for and program,doesnt mean that out of the blue games well start looking 5 times better because programmers figured out the hardware...the ps3 is nothing compared to high end pcs..in fact its got a slower clock speed than the 360,it also doesnt do advanced lighting,vortex shaders,or bit mapping,hdr lighting etc..seriously maybe the developers well figure this stuff out as they develop more and more...

and what makes you think the 30%+ failure rate is good just because they provide 3 years warranty? Have you heard of BFG? they have the best video cards but yet they provide LIFE TIME WARRANTY for it......

Not to talk about PS3, xbox360 face a very unexpected rival in last generation console, the Wii, its killing their Sales and it is two straight fails for two consoles. That Activision guy is just making empty statements. Ps3 fanboys get all happy cause there beloved ps3 is so advanced, that in 4-5 years from now it will really show. What about now? Please, do you people really think that 6 year old hardware is going to blow anything away at that time? New xbox will come in 2-3 years.
Funny how such an empty statement makes all the ps3 fans feel so good, without realizing it's really not good news in any way. The Cell processor is good for nothing more than processing HD video, its Blu-ray player slow and only good for movies.

It will never achieve this "potential" that everyone wants it to because lets face it, its not a console and it is not a PC, it is merely a Blu-ray player with a PC graphics card slapped into it last minute.

Heck, now that Toshiba owns the Cell Processor technology, they'll release new HD-DVD players featuring a Cell processor, you telling me to take that as a serious console if they slap in a graphics card?

when I play my new xbox in 3 years. Xbox 360 cost more than the inferior ps2. Didn't prevent me and others from buying it, did it. People will pay for a better experience if they have had a console for 4-5 years. You really think a 5 year old ps3 is going to blow away 2010 technology, lol.

Now with the cell is a multicore like cpu whats make's it multicore is the spu's so far most devs mainly devs like ea and other devs that usually port there games dont even use the spe's like they should because of the lack of knowledge and there to proud to admit it. That’s why must games have frame rate issues. but then again games like kill zone 2 and mgs4 and uncharted dont seem to have any for what has been shown and i have heard either cod4 for the ps3 (and infintyward had a team for each platform there was no lead) Back to the cell the cell has 7 spu the ppu and the spus have a master to slave relationship...all you hardware junkies Know what I’m talking about when i say master to slave relationship. Basically The PPE maintains a job queue, schedules jobs in SPEs, and monitors progress. Now for the fan boys around the web that keep claming the rsx is bad and blah blah blah because of the ram first of all ps3 as the same amount of ram as xbox 360 512mb is just split up plus it uses xdr 256mb and ddr 256 = 512mb of ram. Plus its faster I believe that’s why they used xdr and ddr instead of two ddr. (FYI take some time and read what guerrilla games are doing with kill zone 2 and how the manage to do what there doing just Google it). What people don’t notice is that with 360 something’s have to give for certain games like geow that game looks very good (only game to match its looks I think its uncharted but seems uncharted has a lot more going on and very large then what gears was) because gears was very short frist of all and the levels small compared to halo but gears looks better then halo IHMO plus it only had 8 people on the screen at once. Main reason I think they had the little locust holes the player kills 4 and 4 more will pop up becuase they could not fit alot at once.

Well back to my point ps3 hardware is just as good as Xbox 360 its just might can do little bit more specially with blu ray added to the mix. Ever one is on this texture that and texture this but games to look more realistic has high polygon count and you need a good and fast processor to have games with high polygon counts since you can place more detail on your character. So far I think killzon characters have the same amount of polys has that level they demo’d at e3 for what I read any who that was just fyi.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.
