Review: BRINK (VG)

Grant Gaines of Vivid Gamer writes "Bethesda has brought us several unique shooters over the years and really perfected the RPG-Shooter combo. Their latest effort, which was created by Splash Damage, is different than the usual offerings, which caused many gamers to be excited with possibilities. The excitement was such that many were hoping that Brink would innovate the FPS genre."

Hm another low score for BRINK... The AI really sounds bad!

kyl2775481d ago

Who cares about the AI? The game is about the MP, the SP is just so you get used to the maps.

Ju5481d ago

Sure. If it would be sold as a MP only game @ $40 and bargain pin $20 2 weeks later. That's what it's worth.

"Editors Note: PS3 owners may want to wait to play the game until the PSN is back up. The game will tell you that you “disconnected” more times than N4G had posts about he PSN being down."
hahaha
that made my day

I was expecting this game to be good, but it seems it's not that good

Ju5481d ago

Its no good. I was looking forward to this but after the reviews I rented it yesterday. Enemy Territory plays better - Brink looks better but is totally sterile. At least in those first missions. No explosions, no particles, the city just feels dead; pop ins like crazy (even on PS3), too slow! (talking about controller lag - aiming and shooting has lag??) and the AI is terrible. Glad I didn't buy it.

MoDyDo5481d ago

@Ju, thanx a lot for telling me that :), it really seems horrible, though my friend bought it so I might just try it out

dead_eye5481d ago

They got that wrong. The game never tells you that you disconnected. The AI gets loads better on the campaign but sucks on challenges.
The pop in is really really bad but I'm liking the game more and more as I play it.

This review is god awful. I swear he treated this as 1. A SP game, and 2. as if he doesn't understand how a team based shooter works at all.

He's bitching that if certain classes are killed then that's all that has to be done? Hasn't he heard of using teamwork to get the right person to do something? Also hes bitching that the objectives are near spawn points??? seriously??? That's what it is like in EVERY objective based shooter. TF2 and BC2 are prime examples of this.

There's only one thing he is right about and that is the A.I. Essentially though this is a MP game and once the kinks are sorted out with connections and lag it shouldn't be very reliant around bots. In other words, don't take this review with any consideration.

dead_eye5481d ago

Totally agree with you. On PS3 so ain't been able to try MP out heard it does have some problems online at the moment.

Ducky5481d ago (Edited 5481d ago )

According to MachinimaRespawn's interview with Ham, the friendly AI waits for you to do objectives in the beginning. As the game goes on and the AI sees that the player isn't getting the objective done, the friendly AI will get more agressive and do those objectives.

Personally my biggest complaint now is that glass is bulletproof. =/

It is odd as most reviews criticise aspects which are just part of the inherent design of class-based objective-driven shooters.

Myst5481d ago

Actually I kind of agree with you on that one complaint. Why can't I shoot through glass? I mean when I first found out I was rather stunned but glad because they couldn't shoot me but I couldn't shoot them.

I've been playing Brink for a little while, and I'm not that impressed with it either. I think I need to give it more time.
