as we sit here and argue like idiots on who's gonna win this Gen, they already know the outcome. they are very good planning sh!ts that we will soon see unfold and take place right here in front of our eyes. I know for fact that SONY has something up their long ass sleeves. Mark my words. it wont be much longer.......

Over the past year, and even in spite of some glaring issues the 360 has enjoyed the limelight and run away with the vast majority of accolade from the media.

Now, expect favoritism to seemingly shift to the PS3s side over the course of the next year. All of those sites and publications many of us labeled as biased will start to have a shift in said bias to the Sony side, and it's already starting. Soon enough, we'll be seeing more praise, specials, and generally positive articles about the PS3, and it has nothing to do with the merit of the console itself, believe it or not. It's simple, the media will go where the hype is, and they'll ride that train until it eventually loses steam. We've seen it before, and it continues to happen.

My point is, those of us that lash out at these sites/publications and take it a step further and harbor grudges are simply playing into their hands, because that sort of stuff generates buzz, negative or not, and buzz = hits, and hits = $$$. Anybody think the Editor in Chief of PSM REALLY was off his rocker when he said what he said about Home and the PS3? Think again. Now, all eyes are on that publication just to see what he says next. It was a brilliant move. I'll admit, that stuff got to me too, because quite frankly it's very unprofessional and is completely lacking in the integrity department, but hey, that's the big media machine. That's the nature of the beast these days.

I say these things because I hope everyone can take a bit of humility away from all of this, because what we're on the heels of makes the PS3 crowd poised to unleash a flurry of mudslinging and flames, and that's just petty, particularly considering that the media really isn't on YOUR side as you may think. The media goes where the money is, simply put.

Anyway, enough of my ranting.

but that won't stop me from saying PS3 is in some deep trouble. They have to step it up. I was a big PS2 fan, but as of now- Sony just ain't cutting it.

Its its pretty revealing reading all the comments people leave when someone writes a blog about having bought a PS3 almost every single ones besides the congrats is something related to waiting for a price cut or similar

.....i really love my 360....its an awesome console, but i do think PS3 in 2008 will catch up in sales figures. I am glad i own one, because i know 100% that there are going to be incredible games coming out for it in 2008 onwards whereas with my 360 i am worried past xmas 2007. Anyhow props where its due, and sony deserve it for FINALLY listening regarding price and doing something about it, hopefully they get the rewards they deserve.

Man If you are, that is so hilarious, If M$ would do that (having upgrading x-box 360 to play Hd-dvd games) that would cost the x-box 360 even more by the time it release that sku and I would guess that probably Ps3 40gb $299 and 80gb will $399 by then and x-box 360 sku will be $499/$449, at that rate x-box 360 owners will more likely to be defect to PS3 or the wii if they release. How do xbox owners justify ps3 is expensive when most of them spent more on the misc. equipment such as HD-DVD player, headsets, wifi, and others.

PS2 beat up Xbox, cause it's price was alway's 50$ less (as far as I remember) did not have better graphic, my knowledge there is Star wars battlefront and some other games that got more details.

But now PS3 have to catch up Xbox, then Wii. That is hard. But they are working on th 45nm with a competitor to share profits and lost, that is amazing news. So next year we will get at Xmas a 300$ console and Wii will be 200$. Xbox will sell at lost and would be beat by PS3 during the 2008 year. Halo 3 (they could have called it the end of Xbox) was the last card they could play (the joker). There even chances that PS2 be tight at Xmas with Xbox.

Sony know what they are doing, price cut on PS2 did alot, with that price cut and those that come with 45nm, they will beat Xbush in 2008. Also MGS4 on blu-Ray will sell alot, and MGS4 online too.

Actually Microsoft is not profiting from there sales of Xbox 360. With that warranty they put out is losing them money every time an Xbox gets returned and fixed for free.

Those saying 120 mln PS2 owners will jump in... Wrong. Majority of those gamers just bought the system that had the most games out and was at an affordable price of 200 Euro/Dollar.

Two factors were deciding: out first, 1 year before the XBOX 1, having largest installed base, thus most support (Now the 360 is in that position), the other one was the larger library of games because of that longer time out (also 360 now).

Price now: the 360 will hit 200 to 250 dollar before the PS3. It has the best line up, with most genres covered (70 games over 80% average score, PS3 has 30 of them, the 360 has 10 games over 90% average score, PS3 has one (Oblivion multiplatform)).

Majority of those 120 mln PS2 owners will just buy the system they like next, not hanging on Playstation. I know many former PS2 owners that have switched to the 360. MANY

from that 90 mill, theres a very large fraction of that pie THAT WILL stick to a quality brand. aka SONY. much like those that buy a mercedez or a beemer. next time thyre looking for new wheels, theres no way in hell theyd go for a hyundai after driving a mercedez or beemer.
Company track records/performance/quality go along way in the eyes of a potential buyer with money in hand. After all noone wants to buy ANYTHING, only to have it replaced consistently. Its just impractical and time consuming.

When prices drop, sales spike and then level off, and then the process repeats itself. We've seen it with the 360, now we're seeing it with the PS3, and eventually we'll see it with the Wii. Once each system hits $199.99, they'll really start flying off the shelves. It will be interesting to see which one wins.

360 is clearly doomed in 2008, not only 360 but HD-DVD as well. There has been far to much critisizing in 2007 about PS3 and games, and PS3 answer to HALO 3 and BIOSHOCK was clearly Heavenly Sword, Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted Drakes Fortune and Haze. Undeniably 360 has won that battle as out of the four titles i named off only one title is a proven franchise. (R&C)

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.
