Speculation: Alan Wake 2 Better with Kinect?

From the article at 123kinect.com: When we here at 123Kinect.com read about the news that Alan Wake 2 is probably a fact we immediately had to think back on an article we wrote quite a while back. It considered a job listing by Remedy in which they were looking for a programmer with motion-control technology experience to work on an Alan Wake engine powered game.

So we have two facts:

Alan Wake 2 is most probably coming
Remedy was looking for a programmer to work on Alan Wake engine game that would involve motion-control technology

It doesn’t take much computation power to deduct that Alan Wake 2 will probably be compatible with Kinect, and since Kinect rocks, should be labeled as “Better with Kinect“!

No...NO...No...!!

This is spelling disaster on so many levels.

Agent-865456d ago

It would actually work better with a Move like device since you could use it as the flashlight and would be more intuitive.

sdtarm5456d ago

how can it be more intuitive using your hands instead of using something that does somehow resemble the shape of a flashlight? lol

also how are you gonna move and do other actions? I can picture it tho... not too interested in it

MintBerryCrunch5456d ago

^

thats exactly what he said...did you miss the part where he said "Move"

Greywulf5456d ago

well anything is better that kinect, since they actually work with console games. Move/Wii anything.

HolyOrangeCows5456d ago

I think they'd be better off spending time making the game longer, improving the technology (and the resolution!), and coming up with ways to reduce repetition.

The last thing they should worry about is adding support for an accessory that will provide limited options for control; especially for things like walking/running, attack, etc. Frankly, crafting it to work with Kinect will probably only further hurt its chances of fixing things like repetition, when controls are limited.

JokesOnYou5456d ago (Edited 5456d ago )

So many sonyfanboys are worried about kinect, bored with move I guess.

I think kinect+controller would work well in this game, I look forward to seeing what they will do if this is true Alan Wake is one of my favorites this gen.

This article is written really badly. I am all up for innovative ideas involving Kinect but when in the article is says things like "and since Kinect rocks, should be labeled as “Better with Kinect“. Less of the crap and more of what could be done would have made this article better.

OT. It could work but unless Microsoft show something about moving and not on rails (like the hackers have shown) it should be avoided like the plague

TXIDarkAvenger5456d ago

Interesting, playing Alan Wake 2 with Kinect. This could work really well or just end up being a flop.

But honestly, they should give gamers to choose how they want to play; with a controller or Kinect.

gaden_malak5456d ago

I don't see how you could make it work though? Even with the aid of a controller.

Max_Dissatisfaction5456d ago

For a moment I thought this game was ps3 exclusive. I mean nukacola and the whole gang are here first

badkolo5456d ago

i like the idea and alan wake lends itself to motion control with its gameplay so it could work.

but to say kinect rocks , well its a great peace of machinery that has potential and while i forgive the first round of games and i understand there will be a lull period until new games arrive, I do hope that when the new batch arrives they are a actual improvement over what we have now.

Alan Wake 2's Upgraded PSSR Delivers A Vast Improvement

DF: "Alan Wake 2 is one of our games of the generation - a proper technical showcase - but with the arrival of Sony's upgraded PSSR upscaler, it's also a key proving ground for the capabilities of the revised technology. In its 60fps performance mode, the game's complex foliage, dense geometry and demanding lighting are paired with an internal 864p resolution, upscaled to 4K. It's a challenge that the original PSSR couldn't handle, sometimes comparing unfavourably with the original FSR2. However, the upgraded PSSR is a revelation by comparison."

I've already completed this game and everything else there is to do in it sadly, so I have no need to go back and enjoy the added enhancements that the new PSSR brings to this game. But I definitely want to go back and check out Control as I still haven't finished up all the DLC for that yet.

Ashunderfire8627d ago

O definitely do Control is a longer game than Alan Wake 2! Plus there is an Alan Wake tie in with Control, plus you face off against a scary boss! That guy was hard asf man.

Jesse Faden the main character, has so many upgrades to her movesets, and object of power gun. Playing this game now to prepare for Control Resonant.

Cacabunga27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

It’s a terrible and boring game.
No way I will ever go back to it . I really do not like Remedy’s touch

Kornholic27d ago

Sadly? You mean you can't replay a game just for the fun of it?

Neonridr27d ago

I've played through the game numerous times. It was my favorite game of 2023. I have so many other games to play. Could I go back and play it for a few minutes to appreciate some extra clarity in the distance? Sure. Would I rather play a game I haven't finished or played yet and enjoy the PSSR updates brought to those titles instead? Yes.

isarai_lee27d ago

I mean im kinda with Neonridr on this, like when i game is so good you get everything you can out of it, a slightly shaper image is cool but not worth the hassle of install/update etc

andy8528d ago (Edited 28d ago )

It's mad they can take a 864p image and make it close to a 4K image. This tech is gonna do so much for console gaming

fr0sty27d ago (Edited 27d ago )

the crazier part is, sometimes enabling this kind of AI upscaling tech actually produces a BETTER image than natively rendering at 4K (and to be clear, I'm not talking about DLSS5's AI slop that takes creativity away from the game developers).

isarai_lee27d ago

That's just outright not true

andy8527d ago

Dunno why you're getting downvotes there is actually instances of this happening. Stellar Blade being one of them. DF reported the PSSR mode looks better than the native 4K mode. Im assuming its PSSR from 1440p or higher. So imagine with the 2.0 update

__y2jb27d ago

Strange that the other story on the frontpage with AI upscaling involved is receiving a hugely negative response in the comments but a Playstation AI upscaler story...well that's just great!

isarai_lee27d ago

No it's still bad, just not nearly as egregious, but there's definitely a sizeable (and growing) group of gamers who dislike any TAA/DLSS/AI upscale in general, myself included. Every time there's some update to one of these upscaling methods I roll my eyes because only when we improve from the issues can we address the issues, but when talking outside of an improvement or update suddenly there's no issues and we're The crazy ones for criticizing AI upscaling

andy8527d ago

That's because one is changing the art (characters faces) and one is making things look sharper. Isnt because it's PlayStation.

CONTROL Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2 will support new PSSR

CONTROL Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2 will support new PSSR.

This more advanced version of PSSR will soon be available to all PlayStation 5 Pro owners, bringing noticeable improvements in image stability clarity of motion.

mkis00733d ago

Such a weird post by them. Apparently they just mean the system wide toggle. Which is perfectly fine. This is based off a post they made after this post.

Eonjay33d ago

Not sure what's weird about that. The update being system wide is basically free marketing for any game using the tech. I assume they already have access to the update and are happy with the results.

mkis00732d ago

Its Just the wording, as they didnt have to do any work for it to be supported.

jznrpg33d ago

Why is it weird for a dev to let people know their game runs better now? If they didn’t mention it that would be weird

mkis00732d ago

I just mean they worded it like they did a custom thing...which they could do by tweaking base resolution if the upgraded pssr allows it with no image drawbacks. I'd be down for that.
