cool, but i think battlefield 3 will be this years shooter

Caleb_1415498d ago (Edited 5498d ago )

There's no doubt about it and I'll be voting with my wallet with this one.

Luckily I didn't get sucked into the hype of BO and it turned out exactly as I expected. MW2 was my last COD game and while I don't necessarily want to see the series go down the drain, they've really got to take a step back and try and revolutionise the formula as DICE are doing with BF3.

Destruction is the way forward as it brings an entirely new dimension to war games. Where previously we could only kill someone in a building through a risky attack through the door or with a grenade, we can now tactically destroy the building to lower the risk.

DICE are innovating with each of their games while COD sticks to the same true and tested formula. While in the short run this is financially sound, Activision and the COD development studios are eventually going to see that they are way behind with the technological curve and the only way they'll be able to compete is by creating a new engine. By this point DICE, providing EA don't make the same mistake by milking the franchise, will already have been consistently making technological advancements.

Unless they take some time out from the scene, I don't see how COD will have any future when it comes to the FPS market. Give it a few years and I guarantee it will be beaten by other FPS franchises such as BF who are actually spending time and money trying to advance the genre, rather than rehashing the same game with the same engine, year upon year.

"Luckily I didn't get sucked into the hype of BO"... Lol, you've clearly been sucked into the hype of BF3. You have no idea what that is going to be like online, it could suck major ass for all you know and yet you say they are revolutionising the formula. That is the definition of being sucked into hype right there.

How are DICE innovating with each of there games? What did Bad Company 2 to that had never been done before? Let me tell you, absolutely nothing.

EA have already milked the christ out of Battlefield. By the end of the year there will have been 9 Battlefields realeased. That is 9 since 2002 compared to 8 since 2003 for Call of Duty.

Caleb_1415498d ago (Edited 5498d ago )

Of course they're revolutionising the formula! Have you even played the Bad Company series? Maybe you could argue the earlier games weren't doing so but the most recent titles certainly have done. Also sure BF3 could suck but they can't afford to put out a bad game as they're trying to take on the current king of the FPS genre: COD.

Besides, from what's been detailed and what i've seen already you don't need to be a psychic to know that BF3 will trump this years COD in every aspect. I mean, seriously, MW3 has only been in production for 2 weeks since BO launched and to think that anyone would predict a solid and revolutionary game to come from 3 studios having to work together is just ridiculous.

Bad Company 2 brought collapsible buildings into the formula which was where Bad Company 1 was lacking. Why include an element of destruction if you can't destroy something entirely within reason? They're taking step by step improvements with their games

You seem to be defending COD resolutely, so i'm not going to waste any more of my time writing responses. However, by all means go ahead and buy the next COD, I certainly won't miss you while revelling in the 64 player destructive battles that I will be enjoying when it releases this fall.

Just you go back to racing explosive RC cars around a top secret nuclear launch facility while getting shot in the back with golden akimbo shotguns.

Vherostar5498d ago

But in terms of sales COD will be as people buy it because of the name.. Nobody has bought for quality in years most people nowadays buy on name alone.. It's the reason FF13 sold so well..

Kingdom Come5498d ago (Edited 5498d ago )

Let's hope its actually a bloody improvement this time and not just a recycling...
EDIT: If it's titled Modern Warfare 3, can we expect it to be a direct sequel? I know there's a lot of evidence pointing towards a prequel but surely calling the title 3 would imply a continuation...

bananasNmonkeys5498d ago

Very true. I'm curious to see what developer/developers are developing it.

Kingdom Come5498d ago

Raven, Sledgehammer & Infinty Ward.

2fk5497d ago

these developers are not going to be anything like the old infinity ward

DrillaKid5498d ago

Not necessarily; lots of games are numbered as sequels but are actually a prequel, like MGS3. A prequel makes sense since it allows them to drag on the "Modern Warfare" franchise for a few more years.

Kingdom Come5498d ago

That's what I'm worried about. I wouldn't mind seeing what happens with Soap and Price but I don't see much point in learning the past of Ghost, it won't progress the story in any manner. He's dead now, therefor we wouldn't be learning anything of any use...

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex181d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos181d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio180d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
