I said it before and Ill say it again..psn went down..a week went by and we heard nothing..they came on tuesday..week later..said we been hacked they got your info..services up within a week..that meant tuesday of the following week..then sunday press conference and they said within a week..that pushed the deadline from tuesday..to this sunday..and I said they gonna use the soe hack to push it back again..and look what happened..they are cleverly covering up their incompetence....yet we see it....SONY FAILS....I am losing faith...bad....they have NO clue when they will have psn back up...another 2 weeks is my bet

Thanks for the update. Back to the off line games then. Since the PSN has gone down. I've gotten just over 80 trophies with one being a Plat. So, still gaming everyday of the week here.

This wouldn't have happen if you they had done their jobs and kept their servers updated with some sort of security.

I called this happening a few days ago.....Having played on the Playstation consoles most of my life; I've become used to Sony's bullshit "expected dates"

Now I know the following examples aren't Sony's fault, but still. I'm used to shit getting delayed after it's been promised on a certain date.

Socom 3 Map Pack. Month after month after month. Months eventually turned into a year before the map pack came out.
Rainbox Six: Vegas. Got delayed six months in a row.

PISS OFF SONY, my roommate and his friend offered to pay my first 3 years of Xbox Live if I bought an Xbox, I'm this close to ditching your dumbasses. Now I know where crackheads/failures/homeless go to get a job, SONY's software/security divison.

somethings really wrong here. they've had supposedly the best network security people around working on this since that press confrence and one of those guys wasn't smart enough to say " hey mabye you shouldn't tell people it will be ready this week because we don't know how much testing is needed" this is f#cked!! i never should of invested in a second ps3.

For the people going nuts right now, Sony said "within the week". The network could be back up by Sunday night. The system needs to be more secured before this crap happens again. Go play some single games or something. That's what I'm doing-been doing it since the network got shot down by stupid hackers. These things take time-given the nature of the situation.

Without Sony, there's no competition in the gaming industry, period. We need all three in competition.

What do you expect them to do?

Sony: "It will be ready when we're confident it's ready"

Sony: "Update, we're still working on it. It's a bigger task than we originally planned. We're working around the clock and we're doing everything we can to get PSN back online, please be patient"

Consumers: "Sony sucks! I need to play Black Ops!!! Life cannot continue like this. I'm buying an XBox 360"

Let me just say... people on here have NO CLUE how hard (or easy) it is to secure a network (and neither do I)... so let's just trust what they say. I seriously doubt they're all just sitting around just to watch us squirm. You know it's hurting them too... not just their customers.

I think online gaming has spoiled a lot of us.

It wasn't that long ago where games were just single player with offline multiplayer. The world did not end after single-player. We'd play it again, or call some friends over and battle it out.

With more tech, comes more problems. This was bound to happen one time or another.

So for those who are impatient, maybe don't hang on to every word about the update/timeline that's being said or you're just going to set yourself up for more disappointment.

When it's back up, you'll know.

all im saying is the ps3 is not cheap. With all the money we CONSUMERS spend on ps3, the least they could do is hire the best at network security. If you spent money fixing your toilet, you expect it to not leak after u spend all that money to fix it right? Especially when PSN users put their credit card info. There is no excuse. All this could've been avoided. For me, its not about not being able to play a game. Its about treating the consumer right.

What did you expect...? Really... what? Do you get angry because they didn't live up to their forcast for repair or do you just hope it comes back up and isn't as unsecure as it was before?

I am throwing 2 cents out and thinking that reports of a possible reattack (or testing as they claim) was going to happen as soon as PSN was back up and running. Obviously that would make you rethink about putting a system back online that was really ready to go back online. If they put it back up this week and it gets hacked again straight away then no amount of PR will get them out of the dog house.

Now they probably realized they can't half ass the system restore and better do their OWN testing prior to just slapping the old system back up under a different security umbrella. More then likely someone from the lower levels FINALLY were able to tell the higher ups that their expectations are too grand and that better to put a good system back up then just getting the system up as quickly as possible.

Sucks to be waiting on this... but as my mom and others have often said.... Better to do something right the first time instead of having to do it again later. And when you are living in the Tech world that has no better point then in your network security.

Well, we are getting somewhere since Sony is now in the testing phase of the project. So I am guessing PSN will go online no later than one or 2 more weeks time. Which I hope I am wrong and we get it back SOONER!

i am not trying to repeat a post i dun on another story but i fill this is relevent information about psn going back on line i found this out2day and it is cormfirmed Sony said on Saturday it had removed off the Internet the personal details of 2,500 people that had been stolen by hackers and posted on a website.

The data included names and some addresses, which were in a database created in 2001, a Sony spokeswoman said.

Sony also said it would delay the restart of its PlayStation Network despite having said last Sunday that it would begin restoring services within the week. A spokeswoman said on Saturday this would not be possible, and that no date had been fixed for the restart.

people are pathetic to be getting all worked up over this downtime. You can still play 99.9% of the games offline, just be patient and be glad that Sony is taking the time and effort to make sure this doesn't happen again.

Go beat some campaigns, go watch netflix, go do something.

what a debacle

Sony has really dropped the ball this time. It's one thing to tell us they EXPECTED to have PSN online this week, but they told us it WOULD be online this week. Their handling of this situation has been ridiculous and I'm beginning to lose faith in them as a company.

I played Xbox for years before I got my PS3.. and they're starting to make me wish I had stayed loyal to my Xbox.

Times like these It's good to have options. There's nothing wrong with being loyal to one brand or another, but when you put all your eggs in one basket and said basket breaks. Your stuck defending a basket that's pretty much worthless.

A lot of you will disagree with me here and that's fine, but I said this sometime ago about psn and was destroyed by the sony faithful but I'm going to say it again. PSN is a great service to me but in my opinion it could have been better from the start. I personally feel that Sony did not take online gaming serious enough and only included it in the ps3 as a way to combat xbox live not necessarily beat it. In other words they simply threw a product together and years later a rag tag band of basement dwellers exposed the flaws of that product all around. Sony is great with hardware hands down one of the best, but you can easily see here they did not put as much effort as they could have into psn. Good news it will have to come back stronger than ever. No matter how many of us may defend the "games" the "quality" and "strength" of the playstation brand. This situation will be in the back of everyone's mind for quite a while whether you support playstation or not.

I have learned to not trust too much any dates Sony gives, and it's unfortunate if they can't bring it online this week, but they have to do, what they need to do. Hopefully it will be online atleast next week.

So unlikely we will see it back this weekend :( likely going to be midweek next week at a loose guess.

While this doesn't meet my time table of when i wanted to see PSN back up and running, I rather have them take their time and get it right.

I bought a PS3 right before this happened. It's a very slight disappointment that i can't use online. But at the end of the week or two (that they are talking) I rather see that they are confident with putting PSN back up.

I think some of us forget just how daunting of a task this is for them. They have to rework everything from the ground up under a time table aimed to please people that are used to instant gratification.

My buddy that I play SSF4 with for the past couple of years sent me an MMS yesterday with his new xbox360. This from a guy who couldn't stand the idea of paying to play on xbox live.

Bought a used xbox360, used copy of SSF4 and a fightstick. I couldn't stop laughing. The guy couldn't handle the two weeks of training mode. $310 bucks to cure the online jones.

Sony needs to hurry up. This is getting silly.

On the East coast, it was 9am and my PS3 turned on all on its own for an automatic update. I thought it was a firmware update meaning PSN was up and running. I checked and it was still down. BUT, the start up only happens when a connection is established. I think that may have potentially been a dry run and should be up REAL soon.

Did this happen to anyone else?

Damn you sony, and damn you hackers, thanks for screwing it up for the rest of us. Thank you both....

Sony is fortunate in that the alternatives are just as overrated if not worse.
This little incident is indicative of this gen imo,hopefully a valuable lesson is learned through this.
Hindsight is 20/20 but this really shouldn't of happened to this extent in the first place

Those who fall and become weak can only insight the will to become even stronger. Sony has this task now and I believe they will become a stronger/caring company when this is all said and done. They now have this experience and knowledge to deal with upon hackers/net theft/security breach, that at the end they will ultimate become better aware of these sophisticated situations/attacks. Pacience can bring great fortitude, so let's stop the BS talking on Sony and then pass final judgement after Sonys march to restoration.
