Spec Ops: The Line Preview | CheatCC

CheatCC says - Spec Ops: The Line is a shooter from 2K Games that, believe it or not, has been almost five years in the making. Beginning development in 2007, the dev team has been able to see many of this generation's best shooters come and go. Older Spec Ops games never really reached the level of popularity big franchise hits such as Halo or Call of Duty have managed to maintain. Will half a decade of research and development allow Spec Ops: The Line to make a dent in the shooter market when it releases this fall?

Was anyone else in the beta and felt like this game was a failure on the MP side?

DEagle-izer5458d ago

Maybe. I wasn't in the beta But judging from what I've seen, it was prolly a really early build. Here's hoping it will be much more improved when the game ships out.

The single player and the gameplay looks really promising. I am eagerly awaiting this game despite it's lack of info updates since E3 2010.

BX815458d ago

I hope u weren't the disagree since you didn't play the beta, but i got the same feeling playing the beta that I had when I played Army of two online.

jetlian5458d ago

of 2 was decent spec ops was one of the worst beta's I ever played!

BushLitter5458d ago

Does it really matter that the multiplayer is poor or that this game even mp at all? It's a game that has a lot of focus on story.
I think the game would turn out better if they concentrate only on SP and leave MP shenanigans out altogether.

Really looking forward to this

BX815458d ago

It matters if your focus of play is on MP. Personally I like a good story over MP. Plus their are way too many MP shooters out now. Variety is good but I really don't see room for anymore.

BushLitter5458d ago

Yup, I agree.
Too much focus on the MP crowd these days. Co-op campaign play is something that needs to be given more attention in terms of multiplayer.
There are some fantastic games that would work really well with the added benefit of playing through the campaign with a friend: Uncharted, Batman (co-op with a side kick! maybe Robin or God willing Batgirl=))
I'm ecstatic to see that Resistance 3 will again include co-op campaigning - can't remember if there was in 2?

Some games are just better left without any MP at all
I think AC somehow managed to get an MP component going well, but importantly without detracting from the core experience which is the campaign. But that is the exception. Dead Space 2, while an incredible single player experience really doesn't need any MP does it? It's just a bullet point these days.

Can't blame gamers really. The cost of gaming is a bit much and people want more bang for their buck. MP is a sure fire way of increasing longevity, but it should never come at the expense of the core single player experience.
Games like COD can get away with this, the core experience being something entirely different.

While a game like Spec Ops will invariably consist of MP in some form, I think it would do well without. Maybe not in terms of sales (something the article seems to harp on about) but in terms of telling a quality story, i think all attention needs to be directed there.

I didn't disagree with you. I could understand why you think that.

No One Lives Forever 1+2 is on Internet Archive for free.

Torrents are there. I actually have the original CD's from NOLF 2, never going to part with them.😁

3D Dot Game heroes. Good luck

__y2jb409d ago

I have this. Never even realised it had become rare.

staticall409d ago

@Cacabunga
While i have a disc with the game, i was able to find it on a torrent ru tracker with at least 3 people seeding right now and it was downloaded 450+ times.

I wouldn't send a link (so i wouldn't get banned). But, i think, torrent or P2P are probably the last mostly reliable way to find old games no one cares about. I was able to find «Fable» there. Not the Lionhearts' Fable, but very old point-n-click adventure.

Need NOLF Remaster from Nightdive.

PRIMORDUS409d ago

NOLF 1+2 remaster for me = instant buy

Abnor_Mal409d ago

I still have my PS3 copy of Spec Ops, Battlefield Bad Company 1&2 & Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1/2.

Planning to replay those and a few others, but the controls feel so loose now compared to modern games.

Change the title to: Amazing Games That Have Been Abandoned by Stupid Publishers Who Don't Care About their Legacy, so You Should Pirate and Enjoy them.

Okay, maybe that title was a bit too long. 😅

NotoriousWhiz409d ago

Amazing abandoned games that you should ARRRR.

DafunkyRebel409d ago

I missed out on the chance to buy BFBC1 on Xbox and I just want to kick myself silly. One of the best PS3 experience of my life. The feeling, impact, sound design of this game was leagues better than BF games that followed

Pour one out for Transformers Devastation

I lost my physical copy in a move, it still bothers me to this day 😅😔

Spec Ops: The Line was super dark.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend783d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long784d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons784d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor784d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens52783d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey602783d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime
