The psn is screwed. As soon as it comes up there are gonna be hackers itching to see if they have what it takes to breach it again. The saddest part about this is it shows that people like this learn technical skills seemingly at the cost of common sense. I'm an Xbox guy myself and don't really like the PS3 too much but these guys are just assholes. Do they not realise how many people they are affecting with this bs? The sad thing is they probably do and just don't care.

While I supported the idea of having linux on a ps3 (not for piracy reasons, I just like tinkering with technology :P), i have to say anon while most of the things they have done have been good, this #opsony stuff really backfired on them. what also seems troubling is that everyone seems to forget about all the wrong things sony(as a coporation) has done against the consumer, like threating to sue abio hobbyist for making custom code for their "pets" or their root kit issue.

Anonymous is not a group so much as an ideology that some hackers align themselves with. Since they seem to act independently to begin with, that's what makes Anon so unpredictable.

You clearly don't understand how the world works. You don't have a particularly sophisticated view of the law or what a company is. You aren't qualified to call Sony corrupt or the system broken. Your position is based on ideology- not knowledge or reason.

Analytically deconstruct a company from a legal, economic, financial, accounting, logistic perspective. You'll find little if any evil- mostly just arrangements that make sense in light of those considerations. The system rightly protects the rights of those who put time, effort, money and risk into making gadgets like the ps3- employees, shareholders and creditors. For their contributions, they have interests -and legal rights. The price of a console doesn't buy consumers rights that override all that.

Sony never promised that the PS3 was going to be an open platform. They were never obligated by law to do so. You may imagine that we have the right to do whatever we want with whatever we buy- not quite. On software, the EULA- you aren't sold the intellectual properties embodied in software- just licensed to use it. We have Microsoft to thank for that particular innovation. On a lot of hardware, there is the DMCA and various equivalents. Circumventing anti-piracy measures for example, is illegal. It may not apply everywhere, but in New Jersey, it most certainly does! We have bodies such as the MPAA and RIAA to thank for that. You probably don't like DRM either- it is there to get content owners on board. Publishers want it.

People were trying to exploit the linux functionality long before it was taken away. Sony are just protecting various stakeholder interests and acting within the law. You don't like them collecting information on others for suspected illegal activity? A court granted them access to visitor logs.

Read up on contract law, the various intellectual property laws, the EULA and that asterisk that says "features and specifications" subject to change. You'll find no one has cheated you. Sony are playing by the rules. Ethics are different- normative. Wishful even.

Attacking the interests of customers? Publishing names and addresses of the children of Sony employees? What do you hope people will do with that? When authorities describe hackers as terrorists, it is normally easy to dismiss such comments as hyperbole. Anonymous is not an organisation. It's not a club. It's just the concept of affecting societal change through hacking - and thus, anyone can claim to be "anonymous." They're not like SPECTRE out of James Bond, for Christ's sake!

Continually labelling "anonymous" as a legion of bogeyman is clouding the issue. The FBI and Sony's data security firms are looking for individuals, not a shadowy evil cabal.

"Anon Ops" is what most of you mean when you say "Anonymous" in this context. This is a smaller (though still organisationally unstable) group of hackers who come up with ideas and disseminate the information to (essentially) random people via IRC and email. Anon Ops were behind the earlier PSN intrusion that was aborted due to negative feedback. They've denied responsibility.

Sorry for the rambling. What I'm trying to say is that we need to focus on individuals with motive, not a fictional organisation that, in practice, is just a disconnected group of unaffiliated hackers.

I'm actually ok with the PS3 getting hacked again.

At first i was in denial, then I became angry, now I'm ready to accept that my PS3 will never be hacker free ever again.

I think only a PS4 could stop hackers with secured, closed-network built-in hardware.

Independent cells are a risk? Every cell is independent. There is no formal structure or single goal, even though they all act as if they behave as one collective.

I play Everquest and have for 10 yrs-While I admit Sonys service is pathetic and there is practically no ingame help on the pvp server I have a lot of money and time invested in it ( monthly fee-buying expantions ect)
