Reports on Sony server security lack accuracy (Update)

Destructoid:

Actually, page 7 of this PDF that was inaccessible at the time of writing (maybe it hated foreigners) only said:

"Presumably, both companies are large enough that they could have afforded to spend an appropriate amount on security and privacy protections of their data; I have no information about what protections they had in place, although some news reports indicate that Sony was running software that was badly out of date, and had been warned about that risk."

Really? So the 3rd hand info we were getting repoted saying it was from 2nd hand info wasn't accurate? Never would have guessed.

Soldierone5467d ago

Now we wait for about ten sites to spin this story with different words and watch about 4 of them get approved...

Fox015467d ago

Can both of you even read? I guess not. And the people that agreed with your comments can't read either I assume.

"Presumably, both companies are large enough that they could have afforded to spend an appropriate amount on security and privacy protections of their data; I have no information about what protections they had in place, although some news reports indicate that Sony was running software that was badly out of date, and had been warned about that risk."

Soldierone5467d ago (Edited 5467d ago )

Yes, it seems that you are incapable of browsing the site and finding ten other websites reporting the same exact information with different words. There is an article that was hot yesterday about Sony's lack of security and the exact issues with a statement from Sony about it.

So what the site reported the obvious, Sony could afford security. How is this surprising and any different that what we already know? Do you believe a fan site reporting Sony was an open door is accurate? Their sources are not credible at all.

Getting tired of reading about PSN now. E3 is around the corner...move along.

EDIT: Simply read my comment below.

frelyler5467d ago

@Fox01

I think they can read just fine, what about you? It says they have, "no information about what protections were in place." Therefore one could not possibly formulate an articulate and accurate argument either way. Then it goes on to say, "some news reports indicate that Sony was running software that was badly out of date." Okay so we have news reports, but we all know companies producing "news" will try and spin something in an outrageous way in order to get people to read their product. There is no quote as to what news agencies have these reports and without knowing the news source one could not possibly vouch or research their validity, did you know that the national enquirer is also a "newspaper." Or how about FOX news? Any gamer on here knows the "quality" and "truthfulness" of their reports are a joke, I'm looking at you Mass Effect series. The vomit spewed forth by that "news" company should be enough to make any American ashamed. Now had this nice little quote you used contained actual facts with hard data to prove it's acertation then you'r comment would stand, but I completely just dismantled any argument you could try and make based on this crap. What was it you said about reading again?

Falaut5467d ago (Edited 5467d ago )

This was out a week ago or so. About an expert that states that Sony was big enough to afford more security (which is really subjective) and that based on LOL the information by news outlets, HE learned that there MIGHT have been outdated software....wowie

So he is saying that they could have MORE security without KNOWING what type of security they had. ROFLBBQCATS

@frelyer - man that was like a glass of OJ in the morning, jumped started my brain, very nice. well written. thanks dood.

Where are all the trolls now? Where is the doom? Destructoid just earned a little bit of my respect.

Trinioutsider345467d ago (Edited 5467d ago )

Could someone fill me in here?...Really wtf is going on...I am confused the comments on that site make no sense...Or is it just me lol...

JD_Shadow5467d ago

Sony was lax on making sure they had up to date security measures put in place.

I would add that they went about focusing more on some New Jersey kid because he looked smarter than Sony was than going after someone who had REAL evil intentions.

@Others: Seriously people, are we only seeing "Sony", PSN, and Anonymous/hackers in the same story and commenting before we even read what it's about? Is it THAT fucking hard to act like you have any sort of brains and sanity when you post? Just because you're on the internet and can hide behind a screen doesn't give you the right to act like you've lost one or both of those!

Soldierone5467d ago (Edited 5467d ago )

For you and Mr. Fox above. A simple "Lack of PSN Security" search right here on N4G and right on the first page 3 articles about PSN's lack of security."

Like I said all they brought to the table was hmmm Sony could afford better security. I didn't know a multi billion dollar industry running a multi-million dollar network could afford better security than that reported by fan sites...who would of thought. People are trying to act like they know everything, when the only people that do is Sony.

Funny how I lose a bubble, yet Im capable of searching and having common sense.

JD_Shadow5467d ago

I skimmed through your comment, and it is quite obvious that you missed the point.

It wasn't that they couldn't afford it. According to the report Destructoid had, there was something better than what Sony currently had that they could've used prior to the hack.

It was that they didn't care enough to actually implement said security that they could afford.

And there a classic thing where people tend to forget that when we, for example, say that they couldn't afford it, they say "yes they could", but when we acknowledge that and then say "but they just didn't bother", then they say "how could they afford it with all the dev cost", not thinking that they contradict themselves and that we pay attention to what they said before. It happens nearly every time because they don't ever want to admit that Sony could've done better. I have, and I've done so before this (was one of the few saying that they needed the price cut prior to the August 2009 one, and I was rather vocal about that, too).

It's funny how people just pretend that I'VE never once said Sony was ever wrong on something, or that it makes us anti-Sony trolls when and if we do.

ThatCanadianGuy5467d ago

Destructoid is plagued by rabid 360 fanboys who have no idea what their even complaining about. Most, if not all the comments their are just re-spewing the same drivel as the commenter above them. All about some 2nd-hand, supposed info some guy may or may not know.Pathetic really.

Sony's war theme song http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Beware hackers u will be caught & justice will be served.

Eiffel5467d ago

Unless it's a child hacker prodigy, then no justice.

clintos595467d ago

I work for juvenile hall & ive seen kids ages 7 & 8 locked up for smaller crimes, dont fool yourself my friend.

Eiffel5467d ago

Was a joke, but whatever. Srs.

supremacy5467d ago

No, this http://www.youtube.com/watc... is the theme for the massive raids these hackers will receive..picture some fat guy scrambling to get rid of evidence as soon as the FBI kicks in his messy studio home.

Now this http://www.youtube.com/watc... is the NGP's raw power theme when it launches this fall. maximum specs, maximum inputs, maximum support.

And finally this http://www.youtube.com/watc... the theme for the ending of all this stupid saga..as new games start pouring in mass numbers.

Ddouble5467d ago

Just like how people reported that the CC info was stored in plain text and everyone believed for a while until Sony debunked it.

Even if they were running outdated security at least get proof or a credible source.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5799d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905799d ago (Edited 5799d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5799d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5799d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495799d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5799d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5799d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
