Update On Identity Protection Scheme [PSN]

SCEE Blog: As you will have read in the letter from Sir Howard Stringer, that we posted a few hours ago, in the US we are offering all PSN users one year’s free access to an identity protection scheme. I can assure you that here in the SCEE region, we are working incredibly hard to offer you something very similar. As is often the case here, with so many countries in our region, this is a very complicated thing to achieve, but we are close.

Wont matter how I put it, I know this will sound bad, but here it goes.

Sony´s concerned over the US and came up with a plan to salvage Identity theft in days. In Europe its always the same excuse regarding the various countries. Europe has European laws. If one law is inforced under the European Counsel, than other countries will likely adopt that law. Sometimes I just feel that Sony doesnt care for Europe, even though its one of their strongest market.

Note: I use temporary VISA cards so this thing didnt affected me one bit. I just want PSN back online so I can resume my online play.

Istanbull5504d ago

Maybe probably because CC is the only thing Americans use. Here in Europe we got normal bank cards, do they have them in USA? Anyways, I buy my stuff via PSN cards, you get a nice blu ray cover too lol.

Oschino19075504d ago (Edited 5504d ago )

Americans use bank cards (check or debit), credit cards, psn cards and pre paid cards. I myself have used all forms at some point or another. Problem here is (and i dont know how it is else where) but from around the time you turn 18 on if you have no credit or good credit you wil be bombarded with companies trying to get you to get a card so its very easy and you dont even have to try and still see a couple of deals for cards every week by mail and email. Either way i dont think its that so many use them as its just more people per capita and overall U.S. has more gamers then EU (and crazy fear mongers) so its a comming off as a bigger outcry over here in U.S.

Soldierone5504d ago

Bank cards? As in debit cards? checks?

rockleex5504d ago

Yea, it would make a LOT of sense for Sony to disregard Europe when its where PS3's actually sell the most.

/sarcasm

Vitalogy5504d ago (Edited 5504d ago )

I 100% agree with you, it's actually always the same excuse which make me think that instead of bring this excuses they should work harder on getting the work done. Nobody said that life was fair and/or easy so they just need to put their hands to work.

Also, like you, I use temporary credit cards, to be precise it's more like disposable cc's, that simply get out of date and trashed the second I use them to buy something.

But like Istanbull I might start using PSN cards again, aftar all those BD cases are way better than the platinum games ones and that way I can replace mine ^^

Veeger5504d ago

Your knowledge of Europe is, well, typically American.

DarkFantasy5504d ago

"Sometimes I just feel that Sony doesnt care for Europe"
Man im sick of you Europe cry babies, you guy have more video players then most outher psn's oh and it's because of every countrys diffrent laws it's why it takes so long to do things, governments are slow sony has the whole world to look after and Europe dose not = the world.. of course sony is going to look after the usa first it's there best customer..hell i would do the same if you want to be jealousies be jealousies of japans psn.there are countrys that get less then europe so stop you're "bloody" whining you "Wanker" you. all we should worry about is psn going back up!!! not who has a better psn

Lmao so sony gives us updates updates updates... but no Online access to psn!!!.

They should update on when psn will slowly return if its just updates this means psn will most likely return in September.

Since how the security breaches basically was linked to ppls banking accounts personal info. Wish psn could come back soon instead of most likely september.

awesomeperson5504d ago

"most likely september", erm excuse me, but you have to be a little... I can't even think of a word to actually believe that.

Sony themselves have stated they are on track to bring it up this week, not in 4 months time.

NeaL_ThA_GaMeR5504d ago

maybe they keep giving us updates to keep us up to date with the latest developments..like a few hours ago we learnt that sony have entered the final stage of internal testing which means that services should be up and running within the next couple of days.

Soldierone5504d ago

Im supporting Sony and have been doing everything I can to stay positive. But you have to admit their "updates" have turned into the same thing articles are doing here on N4G...the same story with new words. We have no information on PSN itself other than "we are working hard to get it back up." or "We are in the final testing stages, it will be up....in a couple days"

Oschino19075504d ago (Edited 5504d ago )

What are you talking about. Last night they said they were in the final stages of internal testing and restoring the system. They are still on track to have some services up and running by end of first week in may as they first announced. Which could be anywhere from friday to sunday i guess. hoping sooner then later.

NeaL_ThA_GaMeR5504d ago

well yh maybe it is same information but different words but then again its not a simple click of a button and everythings fixed its a complicated and complex process.. and the thing about 'same updates' ppl complain about anything and if sony had no updates at all then there'd still be ppl complaining their not being 'informed properly' so i think its a good thing they keep updating even if its similar information.. at least we know that the day psn returns is getting closer

Soldierone5504d ago (Edited 5504d ago )

Well how about explaining things. Why is only some services coming back? When will PS Store be available. Why is it not going live at the same time? Is Home included in the problems? Who is hired to do this? What games will each region be getting for free for this? What will Plus Include in the coming week for everyone? Will Uncharted and COD BO offer an extended or extra double XP weekend if we miss it? How do devs feel about everything? Are any of them working with Sony?

There are a ton of questions and instead of expanding and answering any of them they stick with the standard "PSN Will be back eventually"

Like i said trying to stay positive but after a while you get annoyed and everyone will hit this point eventually.

Like it or not, they should of at least been able to get the websites functioning and allow us to change passwords and post on official sites. Even if it required logging into PlayStation Underground accounts.

Senden5504d ago

I don't trust anything which starts with "dear friends" usually 99% of the time anything starts with that it's someone trying to sell me something or scam me out of something.

It's good he took the time to address everyone however once again I question whether a blog is the best place to do this? It should have been an email not some blog which probably only a minority of ps users read.

Soldierone5504d ago

Its the official news source for PlayStation. blog is just a title for it. Companies do the same thing via Twitter and thats a bit more un professional if you ask me.

However Sony is also sending out emails over the next few days for the identity theft protection thing. Which will most likely include the letter or a link to the letter.

Corrwin5504d ago

An Identity Protection Scheme is little comfort to those who's data has already been stolen.

But some free insurance never a bad thing - especially as ID fraud can decimate any chances many of us may have of getting a mortgage or bank accounts.

BK-2015504d ago

nobody's CC info was taken

darx5504d ago (Edited 5504d ago )

That may or may not be true. I had to cancel my CC for fraudulent purchases yesterday, $500.00 worth of them. Purchases were made in California and I live in Jersey. It may be coincidence but who knows. Only cause Sony says that info wasn't taken doesn't mean it's true.

xYLeinen5504d ago

I wish they made PSN a service you would pay for. Then they could do this stuff with that cash along with other things and give us more content that way.

Corrwin5504d ago

That is the stupidest thing I have read today. Congratulations.

How would paying for the service, forcing everybody to get their credit cards listed, help when all the data is stolen? The answer is it would make it worse.

NeaL_ThA_GaMeR5504d ago

well they could produce cards like xbox where you buy instore... and psn could have major improvements with all the money... but sony dont believe in making ppl pay for something they think should be free. then again if u wanna pay for a better service just buy an xbox...im sticking with psn tho :D lol

xYLeinen5504d ago

Got a brain for processing then? If PSN was a payable serivce they would have to take PSN way more serious than they are now with updates, content, security etc.

In many cases having a subscription to a service goes a long way.

Soldierone5504d ago

@Above...there are PSN cards. They usually sit right next to the Xbox Live cards.

With Home, PSN Store, PS Plus, and many other things Sony is making tons of money off PSN. Just because you don't pay a monthly fee to play games doesn't mean it isn't a profitable service.

Corrwin5504d ago

@xYLeinen

Oh look at this:
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/s...
http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/...
http://kotaku.com/#!245887/...

Got a brain for remembering? Microsoft took Live security so much more seriously than SONY because you paid them... Oh, no, wait, they didn't.

Xbox Live security is still a joke, with users reported account hacks daily. I'm not saying SONY's is any better, but saying Xbox Live is secure is just another "improvement" deluded xboxers think they're getting for paying a subscription.

Zynga5504d ago

Really your gonna bring up 2007 articles. In which case 4 years later Xbl still hasn't been hacked like how psn was. Xbl is more secure now then ever then the psn ever was. At the same time it took many years for the ps3 to be hacked and a long time ago for the 360. And yet with all the hacking and modding going on with the 360 for many years it still hasn't been hacked until now like how the psn is.

So please don't bring up silly arguments in which makes you look foolish.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5836d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905836d ago (Edited 5836d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5836d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Another exclusive damnn the ps3 keeps on rollin wit games awesome ;)

Jack-Pyro5836d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495836d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5836d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5836d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
