Guild Wars 2 Cutting Content for DLC

The Lead Designer and Lore/Community Designer of MMO darling Guild Wars recently gave an interview with a Czech fan-site. In it, they revealed a few gems about the game soon to be released. Most disturbing piece: Content is deliberately being cut to be made as DLC.

Really ArenaNet? Don't do this guys, you are better than this, smh...

Baka-akaB5486d ago

Nothing wrong there , the title is misleading .

They already did that with GW1 .

Of course they'll need content to sell afterwards when there is no subscription fee

evrfighter5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

wait wat?

they didn't deliberately cut content from guild wars 1. wtf you smokin. They made expansion packs which are worth the money unlike DLC.

they are puttin too much stock in it being AAA before it's even out. Though I don't like the term DLC in what is an MMO.

Makes me think of cash shop. I dunno GW2 is off the radar for me now until about 6months after it launches.

Wich is why i said the title is misleading

They left unexplorable areas on the maps . And they planned already planned further contents

They did that too in gw1 , later on used in free expansions or paid ones

SuperStrokey11235480d ago (Edited 5480d ago )

No they did do this with Guild Wars 1, does no one here remember Sorrows furnace? They didnt have time to finish it for the games release so they cut it and then put it back in several months later, and guess what, it was a free content update.

It should also be noted that the qoute is that you cant go their now but in the future you can, well that doesnt say it will cost anything and that doesnt mean it wont be free, and that doesnt mean tha tit wont be 2 years from now in a expansion.

This is horrid reporting at best.

Meri, do you know what you are talking about? Did you read the article. They totally took AreaNet out of context. The didn't deliberately cut content to save for later. They built the game with all the realms and lore etc with expansions in mind.

Totally different.

Merivigian5485d ago

Alright then that's good, I wasn't bad mouthing Arena Net or anything, if this is the case then I am completely glad that they are because I liked the way they did it in GW1. All of the expansions gave be 900+ hours of game play, its truly a wonderful game and I'm sure GW2 can live up to and surpass the quality of the world and story line. :)

radphil5486d ago (Edited 5486d ago )

The only time they did DLC for an MMO was either....

-Expansions
-FREE Updates

Considering GW1 already did that and it wasn't a hassle, why would it be like that now?

coryok5486d ago

meh, an mmo is about playing with people, and im not someone who buys dlc so i think ill have to pass on this until it includes all the dlc with your game purchase

NicSage5486d ago

Look i'm not sure how much experience every reader has with MMOs here, but all MMOs are like this. They all have content that will be released at a later date, and it's always hinted at in lore.

Look at World of Warcraft, Look at EverQuest.

They have to think ahead for these types of games to keep it fresh and keep the story going.

Paid/Free DLC/Expansion whatever you want to call it every single mmo on the market has it.

JohnnyMann4205486d ago

Ok the title is totally misleading and the comment is taken out of context.

AreaNet said that they have areas and lore in mind for DLC from the beginning of production, not that they cut areas to sell later as DLC.

These games have zero subscription, big deal if you pay for DLC expansions. Doesn't AreaNet deserve it?

Who else but me posts GW2 updates 😎 One of the few companies I support, for over 20yrs.

I played it a little years ago. It was fun but I had children after I started playing and gave it up so my wife wouldn’t hate me. I got to 50 and then hung it up

Michiel1989193d ago

Arenanet is doing smthn wrong with marketing, I never once seen an ad for a gw2 expansion and always hear it like this once an expac is already released. Not that I would play it cause I'm a gw1 purist haha

@Christopher thanks for the fixes.
