Anonymous Fears Nerd Backlash From PlayStation Hack

The Sony hackers who perpetrated one of the biggest data breaches in history left a calling card on Sony's servers: a file called "Anonymous," containing the notorious hacking group's tag line. This is bad news for Anonymous, whose members largely want nothing to do with the hack

Joni-Ice5489d ago

FEAR IT FOR THE REST YOUR YOUR LIFE!

Lifendz5489d ago

They should be fearing Bubba because that's who they'll be dealing with when they hit the big house.

I_find_it_funny5489d ago

everyone can call himself Anon, tose hackers who hacked PSN can say they are Anon

Anon is not an organization, there's no weekly sunday meetings, no Anon Mega Boss, no aplications, no invitations

RedDragan5489d ago

FBI, Scotland Yard, Sophis, Symmatec and now the two underworld type companies that Sony has hired.

OMG! Anon members involved are screwed lol.... they have the best part of the greatest collection of internet "hunter/killers" in existence tracking them down, not even Gerronimo himself could hide out this one!

Kids are gonna wish they never took part in this now, because mammy and daddy are gonna give them a grounding after they come out of the detention center. LOL!

lociefer5489d ago

lol maybe they think their firewalls could defend them against a punch in real life

Jezuz5489d ago

I hacked PSN. See, I can lie too

blackmagic5489d ago (Edited 5489d ago )

Next time I commit a serious crime I'm going to leave a card that reads "Harrison Ford was here" and he'll do the time for me! Wait, maybe that isn't proof of anything, is it? Show me some real evidence. I don't want an easy scapegoat taking the rap simply because Sony and the authorities have no idea who perpetrated this crime while they are under pressure to come up with a suspect, I want whoever did this to go down. How about some real investigation and facts that will stand up in court not just a text file that literally anyone can create.

-EvoAnubis-5489d ago

Well, the problem is Anon's own credo. If you claim to be Anonymous, then you ARE Anonymous. That's their own rule. They are "everyone and no one."

Sword cuts both ways, gents.

ComboBreaker5489d ago

Defenders: "Guys, Anonymous is not bad. They are on gamer's sides."

Anonymous hacked PSN.

Defenders: "Come on, guys, Anonymous didn't hacked the PSN. They would never do that. They're not bad people. They're on your side."

Anonymous left a note clearly stating it was them that hacked the PSN.

Defenders: "Okay. Okay. So they did hacked the PSN. But guys, they're not bad. They would never use your credit cards. They're not like that."

1 week later, Anonymous used everyone's credit cards.

Defenders: "Okay. Okay. So they did used your credit cards, but guys, they're not bad. They're only fighting for your freedom."

Dee_915489d ago

""Sony revealed it discovered a file on Sony Online Entertainment servers called "Anonymous" with the group's tagline, "We Are Legion." Case closed, right?

Not really: Most Anonymous members claim the group had nothing to do with this hack and have taken extraordinary steps to distance themselves from it. ""

Yah really
They can claim what ever they want they are prime suspect and are gonna have to do more than " distance themselves" lol

pixelsword5489d ago

Looks like Anon stuck their penis in a beehive.

HolyOrangeCows5489d ago (Edited 5489d ago )

"Nerd backlash"?! But what reasons does Anonymous have for backlashing?!

Oh please, Anonymous. "Our biggest attack ever is coming! Me MEAN it this time!"
"Nevermind"
*PSN goes down two seconds later*

Of course you're going to have a "nerd" backlash. You threaten the livelihood of gaming and then something massive happens to gaming. You think saying "nevermind, we quit" 2 seconds before PSN goes down will make suspicions not happen?

Menech5489d ago

Am quite worried about the way your all ready to attack Anon in real life for Sony to be honest...

zag5489d ago

The problem anon have is that theorectly no one is a leader, so no one can control what anyone does.

So that doesn't stop anyone from dropping stuff to show it was them.

I said this ages ago, people who are crims are going to use this it was the perfect shield for them you have a bunch of people running around doing all sorts of stuff on Sony.

To be honest I doubt it was anyone else but Anon, they were saying they wanted to do some big surprise attack, said the Sony network was shit after while the PSN is down.

You'll find people will have gotten picked up now and probably blabing about what has happened and who's who in the group.

That would be why you have ANon saying nar didn't do it and stuff well it's their problem now and the cops aren't going to care if they did or didn't people are going to get cut down.

thats_just_prime5489d ago

Well a few days ago $ony theirself said Anonymous had nothing to do with that hacks. Anonymous has never taken random peoples info or CC numbers before why would they start now ?

CarlosX3605489d ago

As such, you SHOULD fear the backlash, Anonymous!

Rot and burn. I hope to god that the FBI finds the ringleader, and the person responsible for the hacking.

We need some Navy SEALs... and George's address...

Ser5489d ago

If you combine those two things you'll have one heck of a revenge scheme.

Trey_4_life5489d ago

What we need (and will get) is the FBI's online forensic team, who are much more talented than these hackers, to track these guys down.

Proxies won't hide you guys for long Anon.

sikbeta5489d ago

Only nerd backlash? a whole community want to beat the crap out of them, better watch out...

JMyers5489d ago

Exactly!. There're calling gamers nerds? Even that they can't make a distinction between,

sobekflakmonkey5489d ago

Yeah, no kidding, none of this has made anything any better for anybody, if I ever met the person or people who did this I would probably give him or them the beating of his/her or their life time.

Achemki5489d ago (Edited 5489d ago )

Exactly. Nerds? Uh, there are literally millions of people pissed right now that someone would show any interest in their personal information, CC# and all the potential hassle pertaining thereto. I work with a couple 230-250lb beefcakes that would love to take Guy Fawkes out back right about now. Don't be naive Kotaku.Stereotypical videogame nerds are not representative of the total people affected by this. Even Obama has a Wii.

Anon should be wary now that people have something new to vent on other than Sony. Any public demonstration is pretty much a bullseye now. Peeps can just look for the fat kid in the Guy Fawkes mask and apply verbal abuse and physical threats as needed. Being 'everyone and no one' works both ways, cuz now it's open season on everyone by anyone.

Elwenil5489d ago

I find it sort of odd that "hackers" are referring to gamers as nerds. Last time I checked, hackers were pretty nerdy. What are they now, gangsta? Lol...

mastiffchild5489d ago

@Elwenil-That's kind of what I thought when I saw that Anon had a "tagline". "We are legion" couldn't sound more camp and corny if it tried-it's akin to a certain nerd shouting "excelsior" before going about their revenge.

"We are legion"-WTF? They really think that's somehow cool? Seriously, i had a bit of respect for some of the targets they'd chosen to hit in the past as Anon were in the right but this "legion" stuff is just too funny to be let go.

The Three Musketeers have a tagline ffs, MC Hammer did-and now we can add this collection of whoever the hell wants in at any given time meaning it's hard for them to say they never did ANYTHING as any one of them could and just by using THAT tagline they're all guilty. Evoanubis had it bang on-they're being cut with their own sword, made a rod for their own back with their very own credo.

And, as I said, they just deserve the piss taking fore trying to sound like they're the effin Borg or something. "We are legion"-God save us all, honestly.Feeble.

I don't know why they should fear it.

I mean they wanted to get involved with Sony in the first place, so it's their own fault if something happens to them.

Static-X5489d ago

Bit rich of Anonymous calling anybody a nerd

Kran5489d ago (Edited 5489d ago )

Red_Phoenix5489d ago

I don't believe that Anon actually did the hack. If they did, they would say they did like they have done with all their previous attacks on different organizations. I believe that the actual hacker left that note in the Sony servers in order to put investigators on the wrong track.

DontShoot-Me-Bro5489d ago

or maybe it was anonymous that did it, but wanted you too think it wasnt them so they left the note there knowing that your going to think that someone else did it too put the FBI on the wrong track..

Those bloody clever c*nts. :P XD

Darkfocus5489d ago

they claimed attacks on federal banks, the government, Paypal, etc. They've had the feds involved plenty of times they wouldn't just chicken out now, If they did it they'd defiantly be claiming responsibility, that note was obviously a scapegoat...

jamaicanoni0075489d ago

All there previous attacks hurt companies and the government this attack hurt the people they said they are trying to protect. A group like Anon has too many cells/Heads,Maybe one side realized the danger of attacking PSN and the Other didn't. You can't win a revolution with the people against you.

Narutone665489d ago

They did threaten Sony before the attack. They said that Sony is going to experience something big that has never happened before. Now that this happened, who wouldn't suspect them.

thor5489d ago

Unlikely and it doesn't matter anyway. Anon are to blame for this, whichever way you cut it. Personally I think it's basically confirmed that someone representing Anon did the hack.

sikbeta5489d ago

Anyone can be part of anonymous, from a 15 years old nerd mad because he can't use teh otherOSz to a grown up sonofab... with malicious purposes, Anonymous isn't a group that follow some kind of rules, they attack whatever they want for whatever reason, so even if the Anonymous group say they didn't do it, they can't be sure about that, because as I said, anyone can be anonymous...

badz1495489d ago (Edited 5489d ago )

that "15 years old nerd mad because he can't use teh otherOSz" can't be in the Anon group because you know...he's not practically anonymous anymore!

Hashashin5489d ago

think of it this way : Correlates with the time Anonymous were talking about launching their attacks. They also were the first ones to try and wash their hands of the matter. Seems like some anonymous stepped up and now the rest are scared. Its very easy to talk but acting is a whole different story. I'm not disagreeing with you, but just makes more sense to me that it's anonymous. After all PSN is fine for years then attacks happen when anon starts whining. Coincidence?

HardCover5489d ago (Edited 5489d ago )

No to mention: "On the IRC servers Anonymous uses to organize its operations, channels dedicated to attacks on Sony have been systematically deleted for weeks."

Hmmm, I wonder why they'd do that. If they weren't planning attacks like THAT and weren't hacking like THAT, then why do they need to cover up their conversations about PSN? Weren't they all cool with fighting Sony just a moment ago?

Obviously there were members who discussed this and proceeded to do it. Now every one else is regretting it and hoping it blows over.

Either way, the FBI should have this figured out pretty soon. Millions of credit cards being compromised and Congress scrutinizing is bound to get the FBI involved.

andy8517d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele17d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 16d ago
Athlon10117d ago (Edited 17d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit16d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg16d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10116d ago (Edited 16d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14917d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle30d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit30d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog30d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog30d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad30d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_30d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage30d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection
