Future TV and gaming

2010 saw 3D TVs finally leave the tech show booths and enter (a few of) our homes. There’s also 3D Blu-ray players, projectors and 3D channels, but so far the uptake has been slow, with potential viewers put off by cost, lack of content and, it must be said, the glasses.

Will 3D TV even make it to 2020? The other huge area of growth is IPTV – on-demand telly via your computer. Pioneered by pirates on YouTube, MegaVideo and others and then by the legitimate likes of BBC iPlayer, online services are fast becoming our preferred way to consume content.

its 2011, where the hell are our vr helmets?

Dark_king5504d ago

screw vr helmets I want holodeck now.No the vr helmets just are not safe you can't see anything around you.I played with one many years ago at COSI.They basically have to put railings all around you an force slow movements to prevent injuries.Spin around to fast you get dizzy, fall down and you sue them.
I believe vr helms and motion controls would be prefect together imagine the next elder scrolls allowing vr helms and next gen move. However the risk of injury would prevent any company from doing it.

I haven't had a job in years and somehow I've been able to afford a 3-D tv. $909 dollars for a 50 inch samsung that came with two pairs of 3-D glasses. And thats with taxes. So the fact that people don't have tv's is not because of the cost, its because you guys just dont want it. If you dont want it, then just stfu and move on with your lives. That is if you have one?

Technology is moving so fast. It don't think it will be about power, but engaging the player to the fullest and in as many ways as possible. Imagine like a virtual world, where you make decisions in the game, and interact through avatars. Maybe its far fetched and geeky, but I can see it happening in another few generations.

Not looking good. Hopefully Asha Sharma is able to turn Phil’s disaster around.

To me it's still quite remarkable how they can cash-in 5.3bn in revenue in a single quarter, since their hardware is basically dead.

Jingsing24d ago

The stock mark is what makes Microsoft remarkable, They have convinced every institutional and retail investor to just keep piling money into them. Like many big tech giants they are just a big growing pyramid scheme. As long as people keep dropping money into ETF's that cover the market Microsoft will always be liquid. At the same time it is completely stifling innovation and competition. People need to start being more discreet in how they invest their money as it's killing the system.

Once they re-evaluate exclusive all will be fine….

S2Killinit24d ago

Riiiiight because people will just flock back to them for one or two games per year.

Jingsing24d ago

15+ years of bad performance is what they call irreparable in business. It is time for them to sell off the assets and get out of entertainment.

Tanktopmaster9224d ago

These declines are on the back of extra revenue received from releasing games like Forza horizon 5 on PlayStation. So I’m being sarcastic here when I said they should go back to exclusives. Killing off a revenue stream from Ps5 sales will only make things worse
