Rumor: Rare Looking Into 3DS Development

Nintendolife writes: "Supposedly, the company is in talks with Nintendo to develop games for the 3DS platform, including a 3D continuation of the Banjo-Kazooie franchise. Pleased with the success of their previous handheld outings and seeing no conflict between the Xbox market and the handheld gaming market, Microsoft supposedly sees this as a positive as it could boost sales of their titles developed for Xbox 360. Sources also say that Nintendo and Rare discussed a 3DS continuation of the Star Fox Adventures series, but that nothing is currently in development on that front."

i thought Rare was officially owned by Microsoft.....

if not conker 3ds please

RockmanII75418d ago

They are but since MS doesn't have a major handheld system Rare sometimes works on DS games. They made a Diddy Kong Racing game and a Viva Pinata game for the DS while being owned by MS.

Tommykrem5419d ago

Yeah, Microsoft have developed games for DS before I think, so Rare doing it makes sense in a lot of ways, as mentioned in the article.

Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise (metacritic 82%) was the title Rare did for Nintendo. Oddly, THQ published that title. Hopefully Nintendo is looking to publish this title, that way Rare can get some "honest feedback" with Nintendo pushing them to make a great game.

Edit: They also did Diddy Kong Racing for DS and that title was actually published by Nintendo and sold over 1 million worldwide so....

NYC_Gamer5419d ago

maybe they could have success on the 3DS

StifflerK5419d ago

Errrrm, yeah, it'd be nice if Rare could find the time to do some X360 games as well.

SonyNGP5419d ago

No thanks. These guys are dead to me.

PygmelionHunter5419d ago

Yeah but if they give their N64 games a 3D treatment (ala Ocarina Of Time 3D), they can have my money right away!

SonyNGP5419d ago

I wouldn't mind a Conker's Bad Fur Day (not that Live and Reloaded crap) port on the 3DS, but other than that, they're still dead to me.

‘Thanks to everyone who played’: Banjo-Kazooie director confirms Rare exit after 36 years

Gregg Mayles writes: "Today was my last day at Rare Ltd. Thanks to everyone who played and enjoyed any of the games I helped create while I was there. Also thanks to all the people that worked on the games alongside me. It seemed fitting that I should say farewell with one final rhyme!"

Not to offend anyone. But what was Rare doing with Everwild for so many years? Development began in 2014, with a reveal in 2019. From 2019 onwards nothing was about the game.

Notellin176d ago

"Notably, O’Connor’s boss of 13 years, former Rare studio head Craig Duncan, was appointed head of Xbox Game Studios last year."

Hiring internal talent from Rare worked out so well last time.

It's a shame it seems pretty Sea of Thieves centric

I was hoping for some cool Banjo / Conker merch or maybe a re-release of Rare Relay with some added games, possibly work something out with Nintendo so they can add Goldeneye to it with online support.
