Gamesradar: Why do gamers hate Activision?

Gamesradar writes: Who says a Week of Hate has to be all hurt and no healing? Activision is a company people love to hate, but let’s take a break from dogpiling on the monolithic publisher for its past misdeeds. We thought it’d be more interesting if we could get to the bottom of all the abject ire and the hardcore schadenfreude, to get to the bottom of gamer’s beef with the company. To help us in our quest, Acitivsion’s own community manager, Dan Amrich is going to help us trace back the origins of the anger, where hopefully we can see of how the publisher of Pitfall has managed to cast one of the most negative shadows in the medium. And maybe, just maybe, we can curtail a smidgen of the overwhelming, disproportionate amount of hate.

Hmm, maybe it's because Activision hates their customers? They kill franchises after milking every last drop out of the fanbase, they are one of the worst companies when it comes to DLC, their games are buggy and full of problems, and when their customers complain, they don't listen (like Modern Warfare 2 on PC).

Yi-Long5497d ago

... because they're the cancer in the videogame-industry!

EYEamNUMBER15497d ago

i personally dislike activision because they DO NOT publish anything i like at all anymore heck when it comes to all the publishers out there their selection is somewhat of a joke
they aren't giving me any reason for me to care for them

BUT..ALLOT and i do mean ALLOT of people out there hate on activision because at the moment it seems like its the hip thing to do (monkey see monkey do)

- Milking
- Releasing the same cookie-cutter games with a different title and lower quality
- Overpriced DLC
- Their customers. They keep buying into their games and rate them as the best games ever(yes COD)

DARK WITNESS5497d ago

For me personally, the hate started the moment they increased the price of MW2 here in the UK. Then there was all that trash they tried to pull off with PC gamers. Add to that Mr K's mouth seemed to want to do nothing but prove he has no interest in his customers, only his pockets and I think your starting to get close to the problem.

Activisions biggest problem was the success of Cod4 and how they suddenly thought that they now have both gamers and developers by the balls and can do/say anything they like. Cod4 deserved to be the success it was, but what it did to their egos has been nothing but downhill.

Good thing EA stepped up it's game seeing how badly Acti was F"%king gamers off. BF3 has my money end of this year, not another Cod game.

At the moment, activision are saints compared to some other groups of people

People hate Activision because they are greedy, arrogant, and yet somehow wildly successful. They don't particularly do anything remarkable but they get tons of money as if they were geniuses. They have what people feel they need and they know how to flaunt it every chance they get.

Activision is the Kim Kardashian of the video game industry.

CrzyFooL5497d ago

because they milk DLC and whatnots

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex169d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos169d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Nothing lasts forever, eventually something will come along to make people forget about COD

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio169d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

blacktiger169d ago

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
