Analyst: Next Call Of Duty To Sell 25M, Ahead Of Battlefield 3's 10M

A new research note from Cowen and Company analyst Doug Creutz predicts Activision's next Call of Duty title will sell 25 million copies worldwide in its first year, well ahead of 10 million predicted sales for EA's Battlefield 3.

How can you predict something like it will sell 25 million if it hasn't even been announced?

SuperKing5379d ago

Cos it's Call Of Duty. That's why.

iamnsuperman5379d ago

COD is familiar to the masses. The major gamers ( i.e. the people on this site and follow the industry closely) spout stuff like Battlefield 3 will sell more. Sad fact is it will not. Many people only by COD and play it religiously. Everyone know COD and at the moment it sells because of its name. If BF3 turns out great and grows in popularity then the next BF might beat it or might come close

SolidStoner5379d ago

agree, But COD istn that bad (for online), those glitches and unfinished stuff makes it crap. If only they didnt release it every day like free drinks, it would be better game. It needs more testing with no rushing.

jjohan355379d ago

I never understood why people love BF3 so much and hate COD so much or vice versa. I feel like they're two entirely different types of FPS.

MostJadedGamer5379d ago (Edited 5379d ago )

I guess you never heard of the saying that all things come to an end. I expect a MAJOR decline in sales in the COD franchise this year.

TruthSeeker5379d ago

It's the unfortunate world we live in.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is the only battlefield game that i've ever bought and its the best FPS i have ever played. Therefore, i can't wait for Battlefield 3 which in my book should be the best FPS ever created!

matey5378d ago

if BF3 hits STREAM HD with improved textures and performance with 64 players it will sell 12 million copies in 6 months on STREAM

2fk5379d ago

it doesn't matter because in the end BF3 is going to be way better than any COD that comes out......quality over quantity

bumnut5379d ago

COD is going to look so outdated compared to BF3

Can't wait to see people defend COD this time round

Dart895379d ago

The computer does the aiming for you in cod in bf it's all about skill.Plus i have never seen such a badass montage like this on cod.

kookie5379d ago (Edited 5379d ago )

A quality that lasts for one is best, not a disposable one.

The_Claw5379d ago

bubbles, well said. They have to release a new CoD every year because the average CoD player has the attention span of a 10 year old. in fact, most of them ARE 10 year olds lol

jjohan355379d ago

Not sure what you are talking about. Bad Company 2 on each console has about at most 10k players playing at a time, 1 year after the game was released. MW2 had 300,000 players on each console playing at a time, one year after release.

bumnut5379d ago

Battlefield 2 on PC still has over 2000 servers active, not sure on the exact player counts but it is still impressive for a 6 - 7 year old game

marioPSUC5379d ago

10 million is still a lot more than most games sell now a days. Of course Call of duty will sell more, because it already has a huge amount of people who buy the game because it says "Call of Duty". Lets the COD kiddies stay in COD, dont want their camping brung to Battlefield

SolidStoner5379d ago (Edited 5379d ago )

agree on camping side.. its a hardcore game for campers.. Even Treyarch by themselves said in one video: - "here you can see a lot of good spots for hiding, and in this window you can see all map and camp here with sniper rifle.." WTF is that about..

at least on Battlefield maps are huge and all campers rot to death while they wait for prey.

Kotick Made $155 million from MS in the buyout, the little b*tch needs to stop whining. Thanks to this Microslop deal and massive industry consolidation thousands upon thousands of devs and other workers lost their livelihoods. This greedy piggie pervert needs shut up and f-off.

Saudi Arabia Will Own 93 Percent Of Battlefield 6 Publisher EA

When the dust settles on the $55 billion leveraged buyout of Electronic Arts, Saudi Arabia will be its only true owner, despite a “consortium” of investors being involved in the deal. Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund will control 93 percent of the company, according to filings with Brazil’s antitrust regulator.

blacktiger44d ago

Technically speaking, Saudi Arabia and TENCENT can buy the entire USA. ANf Democrat and Republican will not do crap!

Inverno44d ago

Letting foreign entities own half of American businesses is liberal and very progressive. So is bringing in all that talent from outside the States to replace the talentless and lazy American workers. And here I thought the Trump administration wanted to border is up but nope. We're supposed to worry bout them "radical Muslims" minding their own here and ignore China/Saudi/Israel taking over.

blacktiger44d ago

Another thing I hate hearing is "liberal and very progressive"
It's 2025 and that stuff is outdated. Everything and everyway is literally the same thing wheter it's progressive, conservativ. Because they all wants the same thing have, king unlimited oney buy everything including your house.

Now they making mainstream media news that it's AI Bubble justify to highjack the price of RAM.
Another excuse for inflation!

Tacoboto44d ago

"here I thought the Trump administration wanted to border is up but nope"

Lol, you actually bought what he was selling? Let's see this week alone...

Yesterday he pardoned an international drug lord, while allowing the murder of random fishermen on boats. Remember drain the swamp? He pardoned a Democratic Congressman jailed for bribery just today, nevermind that fraudulent drag queen republican that was kicked out of Congress and imprisoned for their fraud. It's so petty they're picking fights on social media with pop stars while using their music, and even using Franklin the damn Turtle to cartoonify their murders.

thorstein43d ago

You believed him!?!!

I've got some Trump $5000 bills for you, only half off.

Inverno42d ago

People I do not use /s to point out my sarcasm. Should be obvious I don't believe anything coming out of Trump's mouth or any politicians mouth.

Microsoft needs to listen or risk irreparable harm to Call of Duty

Windows Central: "The money may keep rolling in, but Microsoft is the custodian of one of the biggest selling video game series in history. If something doesn't change, I fear we'll reach a breaking point and irreparable damage will have been done."

Because ms is so good at managing studios, surely they will get it right

:P

franwex51d ago

In my view, they should probably merge MP with Warzone and essentially make it free to play like Halo Infinite. The campaign/zombies mode can be $30 yearly DLC. I know this would be insanity as most COD players essentially pay the full price of the game simply for the MP. However-with a shrinking player base they may have to consider it. Making it free would bring in a ton of players.

Profchaos51d ago

To late MW3 should have been a lesson but here we are two years later with a steaming pile a shite called blops7

Halo killer once arrived and technically call of duty killer also arrived, its name is Fortnite

dveio51d ago

Call of Duty was riding the revenue horse and charts for ~20 years. Whether undeserved or deserved.

But I endorse everyone to remind you that Microsoft could have decided differently when they took it over.

The money was certainly there, and they could have taken their time revamping the franchise:

Current-gen tech, manageable microtransactions, not imitating Fortnite and returning to core values of the franchise's origin.

They didn't.

Let's see next year. Hopefully without the then 13 years old PS4 and One hardware.

blacktiger51d ago

you need to stop saying "let see next year"
