ha ha ha. Forza wants to be like Gran Turismo so bad. The whole idea for Forza came from Gran Turismo. They are in the top ten best selling games of all time. When its all said and done u can SEE which one is Gran Turismo and which is Forza.

Forza 2 comparing to GT is like when you "buy a watch that is super multifunctional, but economical, or a watch that is reduced in functions, but premium - higher end."

I hope GT5 is better in terms of car handling than 4 because to call that a sim is laughable! It sucked balls IMO. Forza 2 has quite realistic handling but still not a patch on GTR2 on PC.

Great car models but thats it, Pgr 4 has far supurior environments and weather while forza has more suprior features and gameplay.

Gran turismo physics and handling always sucked, everyone knew that since the ps2 days, but to call it a sim is a joke as 9 said.

GTR2 is a true racing sim, bloody hard though.

He's merely saying that forza 2 does a lot of things.

I don't think it does them well though, IMHO it was souless game that didn't have the right chemistry for me, and I stopped playing it weeks ago.

He goes on to suggest that GT may have fewer options, but will do them much better. Without having played it, we can't put that to the test, but given how much I've loved previous versions, and looking the obviously far better visuals, I'm prepared to beleive him.

@ Zhuk Your comments on the 360 providing a more varied group of racing games is actually quite wrong - I play all the racing games on all the systems, and with the likes of Sega Rally, Dirt, Ridge Racer 7, NFS Carbon, Full Auto 2, MotorStorm and now GTA, you would have to be blind not to acknowledge that theres a diverse range of top racers on the PS3 system. Indeed, theres nothing on the 360 that comes even close to the motorstorm experience, which, love it or loath it, is a unique game in terms of visual fluidity and racing 'feel'.

I'll continue to play racing games on both the top systems - but I expect to be totaly blown away by GT and I am eagerly anticipating its release. Real racers get their kicks whereever they have to go!!:)

Sounds like he has a respect for Forza, I would be skeptical of the tone that is conveyed. I have seen interviewers get answers of a certain sort just by asking certain questions of people, not to mention we don't have the full interview to compare notes with what has been written.

In any case, it seems like a very legitimate point made here, there nothing wrong with a multi function watch, it helps you cheat on test, and shows you where north is, but if your going out to a swanky restaurant with that special lady, a calculator on your wrist will not do. Why do you think most luxury cars have analog clocks in them?

all i can say about PS3 fan boys is that ive noticed all ps3 big hiters as they claim are remakes of all franchizes which were great but yet to be testerd this gen,the xbox 360 is bring out original titles that have become AAA games and brand new ips like bioshock/masseffect/graw series /alanwake/toohuman/e.t.c which are shaping up to be amazing games,ps3 owners seem to believe that new ips cant make a name for them selves and old ips which we have seen so manny off can dont they remeber that their ratchet/mgs/ff/tekken6/ were 1s new ips haha? and the thing that hurting them the most is that these new ips are actually ground breaking, (opps i forgot gears of wars )so im happy with my 360 as i,m seeing freeesh new games like mass effect not recycled games like mgs4 which may be a good game but i know it all.

Forza was great fun but in the end it got really repetitive.I felt like i was playing the same 3or4 circuits everytime.Damage and physics were excellent,the addition of damage really made you drive in a different way.Graphics were good enough,although it really depended on the colour of the car.Some colours made the car look great, others

Any game that raises the bar in an area is a good thing. Forza 2 does some amazing things, and if that pushes Polyphony to do better with GT5 then that's a good thing.

I felt Forza 2 was a bit 'sterile', but once you get the force feedback wheel it's a phenomenal game.

I hope GT5 features physics and feel as good as Forza 2 as GT4 was a big disappointment. The onyl downside of GT5 is that if it does handle well I'll need to buy another forcefeedback wheel (unless a hack comes out to get the 360 wheel and PC wireless adapter working).

When Gran Tusismo and Forza get compared, 'damage' always crops up. But ya know, when i buy a game, i like to see things that i've never seens before. So ask yourself:

-Would you rather Gran Turismo 5 have standerd damage physics like Forza 2 and have kinda lame graphics and run at 720p, with no ray-tracing or anything like that?

OR

-Would you rather Gran Turismo 5 have no damage and have graphics that look like real-life and a level of graphical realism that has never, ever been seen before in a game?

I know the split might be half and half to be truth but i personally would rather have GT5 the way it is now and see things that make my eyes bleed, not damage physics that i see in every single racing game

Forza 2 has been out for months now and GT5 full version won't be out until at least July 2008. How can you compare two games that come out over a year apart? By the time GT5 is released, Forza 3 probably won't be far behind.

delaystation 3... Keep bragging. Keep rationalizing. Keep waiting. Pay for the GT demo this Christmas. LOL! Meanwhile, by the time GT5 full version comes out, I'll have been playing Forza 2 for over a year and PGR4 for ten months. Not to mention the new Burnout and NFS games.

No doubt GT5 full version will be an awesome game. Better graphics than Forza 2, but still lacking in physics engine and REAL damage modeling. Even still two birds in hand is way better than one in the bush.

The PS3 really needed a AAA game like the Full version of GT5 this Christmas. Knowing the way PS3 games seem to continually get delayed; I wouldn't be surprised to see GT5 as a Christmas 2008 release, rather than late summer 2008. Selling a demo is a sure sign that the full version is a long way off. The time spent by the developers getting the demo together, certified and packaged to sell is only going to delay the full version that much longer.

I KNEW this was gonna be taken as "the develop saying forza is better". It goes to show how many children are at the board rather than adults.

All the developer is doing is praising a competitor. But the way a lot of the people took this was the developer saying he had an inferior product when compared to Forza.

you guys are all idiots. this dude kaz yamauchi is a humble dude from japan, he's not a bragger like most people are. gran turismo and forza has always been two diferent games. in gran turismo you have tests to get license. and in gran turismo, you can buy a 89 supra and soup it up and race in many dif races which you can really do in forza. in gran turismo, you get a feeling that the cars you have are yours.

I doesn't strike me as being super confident about the game. It's more like pre-release damage control.

Gran Turismo's devs decided to be humble and praise the competition. That's how you know you're THAT good.

The difference is this. IF and this is a big if, Forza indeed was better than GT(which it isnt) Gran Turismo is still a system seller and outsells titles such as Halo to this day. Even Halo hasnt surpassed the total sales of Gran Turismo. Either way, Gran Turismo will be AAA and this is another exclusive that will sell at least 3 million PS3's. Believe that.

If any of you actually read the interview you would know that he said that Forza was taking a different approach to developing a racing game than they were.

He never stated that Forza was "Way" ahead of Gran Turismo in features just ahead. Obviously because they're approach to delivering a racing game are different.

Of course, Kazunori Yamauchi would say that his game was better, I mean it is his game.

"Without a doubt, the preview we were given of GT5 by Yamauchi looks incredible, with fine detail on everything from pit crew to in-car upholstery that Forza 2 could really only dream of. But can the series genuinely better itself? GT4, after all, scored lower than any previous GT game in the reviews."

Polyphony Digital wants to better the series, and so far the game looks great.

To Polyphony Digital I believe it's Gran Tursimo 5 vs their previous game, Gran Turismo 4. They're trying to allow the series to evolve, and believe that they're not in direct competition with Forza.

Forza 2's physics engine is not just great... It is better than anything that has come before it by A MILE. Yes, better than GT4 and everything else. If you read the reviews, you'll find that non-biased reviewers pretty much say the same. Is GT4 a great game? Yep, it is. Will GT5 be a great game? I highly expect it. But to all the fanboys who bash Forza 2 (and those who bash GT5 without having even seen it) need professional counseling. Forza 2 is great... period. Unless you have played it extensively and have experienced how any small changes to your car noticeably affect handling, you need to shut the hell up. It's the current leader (by a mile) in racing simulations. Period. Yeah, it may change when GT5 comes out, but we'll just have to wait and see now won't we?

I want a fun driving experience, thats it. I have a feeling that GT5 will be a fundementally solid game in the most important aspects.

I don't give a flying crap if you can tweak this and that, I want fast, fun racing with cool, pretty visuals. (not stoopid like ridge racer). The cars have to be distinct and unique.

My only quam I have with this series, is the lack of a dashboard view which really REALLY irritates me. I don't need a hardcore racing sim, but i still prefer feeling of being in the car. Although, im not even positive the new GT5 has a dashboard or not. Anyone??????

..for Midnight Club: Los Angeles. For me personally, open course street racing is just so much more fun than the fixed tracks these other games have.

And look, it's multiplatform! So everyone can focus on the important things... like which version has slightly more realistic fog on the mirrors!

For realistic crashes i would suggest the burnout series. For sim try Forza 2, For all round arcade fun + online play PGR4. For great looking cars on racing tracks try GT5 (well after a year). There now no need to be angry fanbois.

I've always hated playing GT. I tried...I tried hard to like it but it fails in gameplay. Graphically it's the best looking racer ever. Forza 2 and Ferrari 355 are the best sims.

Yeah, Forza has more customization features. But Gran Turismo's still king when it comes to physics, graphics, and the overall experience. But if GT5 (the final one) lacks the cool features that games like Forza introduced (specifically, custom paint jobs and adding body kits), then it will be a bit of a disappointment.

But the developer does specify that they want to nail the core driving mechanics and online features before moving ahead to those kinds of capabilities, which actually are trivial in the grand scheme of things. They already have 3 times the amount of detail that Forza 2 had just for GT5: Prologue, so I'd say they're making some great strides.

The physics in GT are superior to Forza.
(in the replays, the cars feel/look like they're gliding on the road, more than actually rolling on the roads. They kinda feel "detached", you know what I mean? Cars actually handle better in GT as well. They behave like they would given their power, drive train configurations, tires, suspension configurations, etc.)
The graphics in GT are superior to Forza.
(It's pretty obvious when you take a look at screenshots of GT 5 prologue and Forza2, that GT comes closer to photo-realism than forza does)
The Car and track models in GT are superior to Forza.
(cars look WAY better in GT, so do the tracks)
The replay camera angles in GT are superior to Forza.
The online component in Forza are superior (at the moment) to GT
(XBOX live offers so much more at this point, PSN and GT need to do a lot to catch up to XBOX Live)
The car customization in Forza is superior (at the moment) to GT. (body kits, wheel customization, paint jobs, decals, etc)

Everyone talks about the damage in Forza and how "reallistic" it is. I don't think its well done at all. I was able to take a Nissan Skyline GT-R around a course, crash into a wall head on at 100+MPH and still be able to drive away. We all know that in real life, that is not possible.

GT is a monster.gt4 was great in every way,yet a little bit dissapointing,because it lacked the online component.
GT5 will set the bar for driving simulators for years to come as burnout is the benchmark for arcade racing.

Can't hold a candle. Have seent he damn screenshots to GT. The game is going to be hot to trot. Stop grasping for hope.

Like or not... regardless of how much GT developers try to do some pre-release damage control... the fact is that GT will be compared and will go head to head with PGR and Forza... It's innevitable..
The game will be praised on the things it does better than PGR and Forza and flamed on the things it does not. If these features forza have are more important than these so call "Quality" items GT have in the eyes of the reviewers expect them to make lots of noise.

...are great racing franchises. Lets remember that GT has over half a decade head start but to me Forza is catching up quickly. I personally think that if you combined the visuals from GT with the physics, customisation, damage modeling from Forza together that you'd have the perfect driving simulator.

Forza 2's visuals were the only real let down - although they were not bad they lacked the same level of refinement gamers have become accustomed to thanks to GT. However, could Forza 3 rectify that? most certainly but only if Forza 3 is released on the next-gen Xbox (i.e. the 720).

Forza Motorsport 2 on the Xbox 360 really is the best Racing game ever made.

Look at all the Awards Forza Motorsport 2 has won!

And look at how highly rated Forza Motorsport 2 is...Forza Motorsport 2 has already sold millions of copies.

The truly awesome thing is that Forza Motorsport 2 is actually a lot better now than when it was originally released, because there have been so many new downloads with extra cars and features.

Forza Motorsport 2 really does represent the high-point that other games are using as a high-point to try and reach.

One thing is for sure, though...by the time GT5 gets here in late 2008, Forza Motorsport 2 will have even more features...in fact, we might even see Forza Motorsport 3 shortly after the release of GT5.

i guess it depends on what you like... Forza being the most realsitic sim to date...damage, online auction, custom paintjobs, endless custimizations... though GTA5 will not have such key ingrediants that makes Forza so great it will have better graphics....probably the best seen to date.

gran turismo graphically doesnt look that great....it looks good,but not great...pgr4 graphically wipes the floor w/ turismo,if you cant see that your blind..regardless of resolution..ggr4 runs at 60fps at 720p...it also looks far beyong turismo graphically..not in realism,but in overall performance..you ps3 owners are hillarious w/ your graphic claims..there is not 1 ps3 game that looks better than gears,or bioshock..unreal might look a smidgen better than gears when it comes out,but epic cant get the game to lock at even 30fps on the ps3 hardware hence the delays..when unreal comes to the 360,i hope the truth well be out about both systems and their performance..please dont blame epic,when the ps3 version of unreal doesnt look or play as well as the 360 version...this is going to happen,i guarentee it..please stop the excuses already..the ps3 is slightly less powerful than 360..but if you dig the ps3s upcomming games more,be happy you have a ps3...

What do you guys mean you're not used to Sony devs being honest? Ken Kutaragi has always praised Nintendo for being innovative, especially when the Wii was announced. Team Ico, desputably the most respected Sony developers, have said that they loved Zelda: Twilight Princess. Even Phil Harrison and Jack Tretton have both said the 360 and Wii had better launches and the PSN was underdeveloped at launch.

I can't believe that GT5 will have 16 players online with no graphical hiccups and still move at 60 fps when Madden can't even keep 60 fps for 22 players on field.

GT5 is far from sim no matter how any body cut it. A-spec was better than 4, There are still no high end sports cars (Ferraris, Lambo's, ETC.) but there are 1000 skyline's which all feel the same. GT4 has over 700 cars or whateva the numbers are that all feel the same and thats not cool. I rather have 350 cars that due to upgrades and finetuning feel like completely different vehicles with substance.

there are people on this thread who used to absolutely love Gran turismo on playstation, but have turned to bashing it because they own a 360 and won't buy a ps3. That's too bad.

Nonetheless, both look great.

Having read most of these posts and playing both Forza 2 and GT4(60% complete) I must say you people are crazy. The physics from Forza are just as good as the physics from GT(I don't think they're better but they aren't that far off). The custom paint is nice and all but the customization is what real car heads care about and both do this exceptionally. Bottom line: Forza 2 is a great sim as is GT4. They aren't that far apart so please stop saying one is extremely superior to the other. Also I must add that none of you have played GT5 so how can you possibly KNOW how good the physics and everything else are?

Forza, and Forza 2 are great games. Gran Turismo is also a great series of games. I like both, i play the ps2 all the time, i also play my 360 all the time, and when GT5 comes out i will be getting it for my ps3. THEY ARE ALL GOOD RACING GAMES.

This gen hasn't been the best for games, last gen consoles are still out there and now there's been talk of the PS6 and Xbox Two for a year or so. Many games this gen will be ported to next gen and the cycle will continue. The re-release of the Neo Geo AES+, games on cartridge for £70 ($95), gaming is going back in time. Gaming has gone pricing mad with the high cost of games, consoles and controllers. The men and women at the top are clueless.

It’s always interesting to hear behind-the-scenes stories like this, especially involving veterans like Shuhei Yoshida and leadership figures like Jim Ryan. That said, there are usually multiple sides to decisions at that level. It could be less about not “listening” and more about differences in long-term vision for PlayStation. Yoshida played a huge role in shaping the brand, so whatever the reason, his impact is undeniable.

If true, and I'm inclined to believe it is, it goes to show that Sony lost their way when they became more western/didn't respect the PlayStation origin story. Andrew House and Jack Tretton did great work, but they also didn't try to fundamentally change the PlayStation DNA. Ryan oversaw the death of Japan Studio and a live service direction.

I miss the first three generations of PlayStation. The way they turned PS3 around, we knew they meant business. We were all worried for a bit there around launch. Eventually from 2008 they started shifting slowly. But since Yoshida was fired, it's never been the same. Still enjoy my PS5 daily. I got a backlog dating back to PS2 lol So I'm fine but new games aren't as appealing anymore.

It seems like we were thrown on to the worst timeline possible where everything is too expensive and the wrong people were put in positions that makes the world a shitty place. We could have had Shu as the head of PS but we got the shitty alternative. Same goes for everyone in power around the world. Doesn’t matter the company or country the majority of us got the shitty picks and the world is declining like never before. I do think PS can come out of this because of their studios, talent and IP but they need someone more in touch with gamers leading things like Shu was. They’re still the best place for console gaming imo but it could be much better than it is especially without the massive live service failures. The rest of the world I have a lot less hope for right now. Hopefully the pendulum swings back towards the good ole days but I’m preparing for the worst.

There's another guy who recently "retired" as CEO of another large gaming company, after doing a dismantling job as lead for well over a decade.

seems legit, the business man, fires the one who has ideas to move the business forward.

Jim Ryan is the reason why we are entering year 6 since the PS5 launch and many of us don't feel like the PS5 has gotten started as yet.

I hope going forward, we will see a return to form.
