JoyPads: OperationFlashpoint: Red River Review

"Tactical warfare doesn’t get anymore intense than Red River. Battling across Tajikistan, between Afghanistan and China, you will battle against insurgent guerilla fighters, and later on the People’s Liberation Army that will out man you, out gun you, and will really test your skills on the field. Red River is certainly a game that is different from its competitors and does indeed offer a satisfying, military warfare espionage across Tajikistan against the PLA."

"Tactical warfare doesn’t get anymore intense than Red River"

It didn't feel very intense for me, it was boring. At least 50% of the first level is spent sat on the back of a truck which made the game get boring fast.

The orders system is pretty complicated too, it needs 1 button held down then 3 more presses of another button just to issue a follow me order.

7.5/10 ? more like a 6 imo

is it really that bad?I loved the first one for the pc and the second one sucked ass. This one looked promising.

If you loved the first one on pc I suggest you try the Arma games, they are made by the devs who made the first Flashpoint game.

If you hated the second game I suggest avoiding this as it is just more of the same.

No it isn't. Its something that sits in the middle between full on soldier simulation and arcade CoD style shooter.

I like something a little different and more realistic, that isnt a full on simulation like ArmA or the original OFP. Something a bit more inbetween like BIA, GRAW or R6: Vegas is how I would describe it.

In OF: Red River, one bullet can kill, there's no health regen and the size and scope of the battles (huge in comparison to CoD and Battlefield) make it one of the most intense fire-fight experiences I have seen in a video game before. Its very open, but still has the spectacle.

Its not the best game in the world, but its still pretty cool. If you are feeling a bit worn out on the CoD and BF's, but aren't keen on the slower military sims, then give Red River a chance, you may like it.

The command interface is very slick on console. Feels really nice and easy to give orders.

Off Topic: John man I can't wait for your game!

Some mediocre - crap games there. Couldn't even include any Codemasters racing games? It's the only thing they're good at.

Canadiangamernet4318d ago

Including the Dirt series in the bundle would have been awesome but i wouldn't say they are crappy games. I liked Overlord 1 & 2 and both Operation Flashpoint are decent FPS the other one are so so for me.

guitarded774318d ago

Like I said... crappy to mediocre. I liked Overlord too. Didn't care for Operation Flashpoint. But eve liking Overlord, I have no illusions that it isn't a mediocre game.

AntsPai4318d ago

Even though it's still technically a good deal, the whole $5 or £4 thing annoys me. Humble bundle doesn't do this. No thanks.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River - The Shooter That Could Have Been The Greatest

Mobile & Apps: "One of the most underrated shooters of the previous generation was Operating Flashpoint: Red River for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. With all its problems, I believe this is a game that is worth playing, however, it is not too hard to see why the game didn't quite kick off, as it should have."

I liked it, didn't quite finish it though. Maybe I will now.

Loved this game, it was dumbed down from Dragon Rising but still an enjoyable game. Was still offputting to people looking for instant/non stop action

Ha! Some colleagues and I are actually planning on hitting this one up tonight. Great game.
