is bringing out a machine that's only on a par with the ps3 and xbox 360 as they're reaching the end of their lifes a particularly good idea on nintendo's behalf? within a few years it'll have them bang smack at the bottom of the pile again.

Fred-G-Sanford5501d ago

Most of the people that purchase Nintendo's consoles are not concerned with owning bleeding edge tech, so just having their favorite games running at HD resolutions will be plenty enough for them.

AdventShadow015500d ago

to tell you the truth its going to be HARD for project cafe to NOT be stronger than ps3/360. I mean they would have to make it weak and under powered on purpose since i can get a 60$ gpu 10x stronger than ps3/360's.

ClydeRadcliffe5501d ago

For the most part I would be inclined to agree, but at this point in time Nintendo seem to be handicapping themselves unnecessarily by again looking at last generation's technology as their spec template. Wasn't one of the main attactions of the Wii it's initial price point too? A $400 price tag will rule out a lot of "casual" players initially, surely?

"A $400 price tag will rule out a lot of "casual" players initially, surely?"

This is really starting to annoy me.
"casual" people buy overpriced Apple products.
Price is a factor yes, but not a factor you are trying to imply here.

Marketing is key, If Nintendo does it again like with the Wii. Hell yes it will sell.

@below
"They're the ones who bought a Wii, own Wii Fit, Wii Play and a dancing game that gets used about three times a year. "

You are basically saying that all of them are like that. Which isn't true.
Casual gamers are very much diverse, just like everyones taste for movies.

It comes down to Marketing. Convincing people.

ClydeRadcliffe5501d ago

"Casual" players don't tend to spunk that kind of money on a console though. I think you've got a very different definition of casual than I do.

When I talk about casual gamers, I'm talking about those who don't play very often. Or who buy a cheap console and Rock Band to break out every now and then when they have friends over. These are people who would buy one or two games a year, and who do the majority of their gaming on Facebook.

They're not traditional gamers in that they don't follow the gaming scene. You know exactly who I'm talking about. They're the ones who bought a Wii, own Wii Fit, Wii Play and a dancing game that gets used about three times a year.

They are casual gamers, and they're sure as hell not going to spend $400 on a console.

Wii doesnt have "bog standard" dvd drive as writer puts it, it has the same drive as a 360 which is dual layer. Smash bros for a start is a dual layer disc. I hate reading articles which have wrong facts, kind of discredits a lot of everything else they say.

This Project Cafe console better have more than 512mb of ram, seriously, thats not enough anymore

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Well dayum lol. Old agent orange pissing off every industry and nation.

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer69d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot69d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box68d ago (Edited 68d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno69d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay69d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno67d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK68d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
