IGN writes: "An almost painfully nostalgic sound met my ears when I recently pushed the clunky, purple power button of my twenty-year-old Super Nintendo to the "on" position. The screen wavered a bit, as the crotchety, old system attempted to read the information off the well-loved game cartridge it held within. Finally, a solid black screen with blocky, white text appeared. A voice read these words aloud, words I'll never forget."

Super Metroid was a monumental triumph of interactive art, a game that achieved new heights in presentation, level design, and pacing, and despite a few flaws, manages to hold up astoundingly well to this day.

"30 years after its launch, however, Super Metroid for the SNES remains the undisputed king of the franchise in terms of its atmosphere and tone. " - Ollie Reynolds | NintendoLife
Fusion did a great job at it. Really love that horror feel with metroid. I mean you are completely alone on alien planets filled with horrific monsters and toxic environments.

The 2024 Game Anniversaries include some major titles including Half-Life 2, Uncharted 2, and Minecraft.
but then they had to ruin her in Other M. =(
You all wanna know what is funny? When Super Metroid first came out, it was seen as a downgrade from older Metroid games. It was easier and it was far FAR more linear compared to previous games. Also, Metroid didn't used to be about "find item and open door" like in Super Metroid. It was about exploring bizarre environments with weird attributes (false floors, tunnels through walls, etc) and with dangerous enemies everywhere.
Not everyone lived through that time or remembers that, but I do. Until the last 10 years or so Super Metroid was actually the least popular (not the most popular) Metroid game in the series, which should be a sign of how far downhill the franchise has gone.
I remember buying SM used at EBgames during middle school and being blown away by it.
I thought Metroid Prime 1 was pretty epic too.
