Wii and Project Café Will Coexist

Geek Revolt writes "With each new rumor that’s released about Nintendo’s Wii successor, it’s becoming clear that it’s more than a Wii with HD graphics, it sounds like a completely different console, it probably won't share the Wii branding. So there’s no reason it can’t coexist on store shelves next to the Wii. If you’re not convinced, here are a few reasons why Nintendo won’t kill the Wii once Café goes on sale."

the wii is dead already! its just a zombie right now. there are about 5 games to see the wii through this year and absolutely nothing beyond that.

nintendo knows the wii is on its knees, hence project cafes imminent release.

sarshelyam5506d ago

I don't think it's a "zombie" to the Casual fans. To those of us who love the "core" experience, well, yeah...I'd be inclined to agree that it was dead 2 years ago!

seems everyone forgot how awesome 2010 for Wii were.. many great games were released and not for casuals..

Sin & Punishment 2,
No more heroes 2,
Silent Hill: shattered memories,
Fragile dreams,
Donkey Kong Country Returns,
Epic Mickey,
GoldenEye 007,
Kirby's Epic Yarn,
The Kore Gang: Invasion from Inner Earth,
Metroid: Other M,
NBA Jam,
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands ,
Red Steel 2,
Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love,
Sonic Colors,
Super Mario Galaxy 2,
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars,

and I wrote good games that I like, maybe there are even more .. how about that? :) I think 2011 will be good too, just need to wait for E3 and we'll see or we'll see nothing .. :) NINTENDO WHERE'S MY RHYTHM HEAVEN WII? :)

to you maybe the wii is dead but not everyone shares the same view. Especially the developers that are making games for it. In honesty the wii was not what all the 'core' gamers were expecting but that doesnt devalue its presence as a game system to others.

This notion of coexistence is nothing new. Pretty much every major player has kept supporting the old even when the new is released. Maybe we can say MS didnt with the original xbox but it was at such the opportune time for them to focus their efforts on the 360.

Looking at companies from Atari to sega to sony...each one has brought out a newer machine in the hopes that existing consumers will buy into it but they know not to cut off the original because of its impact on the market.

If Nintendo decides to keep the wii going for the indie developer side of things...I say go for it. Simple yet fun games for those who dont have the dedication to gaming like hardcore gamers would be satisfied.

Just because some people had higher expectations of the wii doesnt mean what the wii has to offer everyone else is crap.

to co-exist means to juggle the two simultaneously.. both being kept active.

how can the wii co-exist with cafe if nintendo dropped the ball on wii already just because they had their hands full with 3ds?

nintendo can't juggle 2 balls, let alone 3! so the idea of wii co existing with cafe is frankly total bollocks! its not going to happen!

the wii is finished now, its just doing its victory lap this year, if you think there is any future for the wii beyond this year you are simply crazy.

by the time cafe comes, nintendo console owners will be so fed up of this generation of 'gamecube graphics' they will throw their wii in the closet faster than you can say 'cafe'!

co-exist? lol yeah right.

darthv725506d ago (Edited 5506d ago )

you arent realizing the grander picture. Will some people toss the wii in the closet...yes. Will "everyone"...no.

As an individual you can only see things one way but there is a much broader perspective out there. The millions upon millions who bought the wii on the novelty of motion control are being satisfied (debatable) by the type of software that is appealing to "THEM" not so much yourself.

Am I a satisfied wii owner...to an extent. Do I wish there were more big budget AAA titles...of course. Will I get a cafe...more than likely.

My choices dont influence anybody but myself so I wouldnt expect everyone else to do the same as me. Nobody should. There is still a viable market out there for the wii type of gamer and it is those that nintendo will have the most difficult time to sell to.

Making the system for the core and having games for the core are a likely way to appease the core. The core no longer make up the majority of gamers like they once did.

"you seem to be thinking individually..."

And he called me crazy.
See I'm not the only one on this.

Also bubbles up for the rest of your post.
Agreed.

its not about thinking only from my perspective, im talking about events that have actually happened. you are being over optimistic (deluded) to think nintendo will support the current user base on wii when cafe arrives on the scene, especially considering the state of the wii at the moment.

the casuals may still be satisfied with their wii in 2012 and beyond, but for the core gamers the cafe cant come soon enough.

its coming up to the 5th month in 2011 and still zero games of any worth have been released for wii. sure there will be a handful by the time the year is through, but beyond that there is nothing. core gamers know this and so the cafe will be anticipated because it will mean games are on the way!

as i said in my earlier post, nintendo said themselves that wii software has taken a backseat due to the 3ds. and a lot of wii projects have been pushed back as a result. so they are having problems making wii and 3ds co exist as it is, let alone bringing cafe into the picture.

it just wont happen, so wii is being phased out. when cafe arrives you may as well throw the wii in the cupboard because cafe will make it obsolete in an instant! only casuals who are completely oblivious to cafe will continue playing the wii and stupidly keep checking for new wii software. there will be no new software, not major titles from nintendo anyway- only shovelware and games that get yearly updates.

OK check this out.

Support in this sense, just means to keep it available to the public to buy and have the occasional game on it. When i got my 3DS, a woman behind me purchased a PS2. now when is the last time something you would call noteworthy, released on the PS2????

Same here. Nintendo will keep the Wii available, because unlike you, they realize that just because the opening week or month or a game is over, doesn't mean it vanished from the face of the earth.

I'm still buying games released in '07 and '08 for Wii, so I'm sure someone who sees it for say $99 and always wanted one, will be glad to get one, and glad Nintendo didn't stop production on it.

So yes, it is very much possible, and even more likely, that Nintendo will leave the Wii out there until it's sales just deplete.

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

AuraAbjure70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer71d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot71d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno71d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay71d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno69d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK70d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
