PlayStation Network Issues Getting Worse before they Get Better

Following Electronic Theatre’s report on the PlayStation Network downtime this morning, a representative of Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has informed us that other issues are likely to occur before the service returns to normality. In addition to limited access to the network via PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PC-based browsers, gamers may find other related services disrupted.

What the heck is going on here?

RedDragan5519d ago

"Maintenance"

Whatever that means.

Shikoro5519d ago

If there was a server maintenance they would say so on the blog.

Saying there are service outages makes you think that this is Anon's fault... I just hope it gets fixed soon since I'm on Easter holidays for God's sake... :/

Kleptic5519d ago (Edited 5519d ago )

yeah the blog just put up 'we are looking into the issues, and we are aware of them' or something like that...

Translated: 'we have no clue what is going on, but we are aware of problems now, kthxbai'

so its not scheduled maintenance...its been a mess for me for over a week also, but not from the PS3, just from different websites...GT5 remote racing has been crap as you can't log into the PSN from the GT site...

gamingdroid5519d ago (Edited 5519d ago )

From the story:

"At the time of writing, the official UK PlayStation forums are experiencing problems, with templates disrupted and some registered members unable to post or log-in. Electronic Theatre has been informed that this is all part of the same maintenance routine as the current PlayStation Network downtime, and the issues will be corrected in due course."

Doesn't sound like Anonymous to me.... but I'm sure Anonymous will be the going excuse for years to come from now on!

wizzle525519d ago

I heard a rumour that they are fixing an exploit where Jailbreak users can get PSN content for free through use of the ps3 web browser. Bad times :(

thekiddfran5519d ago

It could be a number of things. Pity they couldnt tell us exactly what was wrong

crematory5519d ago

exactly which mean they dont know whats going on

Shikoro5519d ago (Edited 5519d ago )

Saying exactly what was wrong would seem unprofessional, but yeah, it would be great if they could explain things a bit more...

MastaMold5519d ago

Just got home from work tried signing in but i keep getting error you have been signed out of PSN. Damn yo I wanted to play SOCOM 4 & Mortal Kombat online before I go to sleep, hope this does not take long to fix the problem or find out what the F is going on

FrankenLife5519d ago

This has nothing to do with the PC, and should not be in the PC section. People need to stop clicking all categories when they post articles. Also, people approving articles need to catch this.

DragonKnight5519d ago

Actually it does. You see, you can access PSN on your PC's browser, hence the PC tag is appropriate in informing people across the board.

Rynx5519d ago

But in a way he's right though I've seen several times when articles get marked as 360 even though it had nothing to do with it

Nivalis5519d ago

Agreed, it irks me off when ps3 news gets tagged 360, and 360 news gets tagged ps3, in an obvious attempt to get more hits/comments from the fanboys

jdoggystyyle5519d ago

oh but psn is better then xbox live..i forgot :p

crematory5519d ago (Edited 5519d ago )

i dont believe that was for maintenance ,i think there is a major problem right there i cant remember when was the last time all psn servers worldwide is down in the same time

Liefx5519d ago

I have honestly not noticed any problems over the past few days.

solidsnake2225519d ago

Same here, all's good in Illinois.

Persistantthug5519d ago

In fact, I was playing BFBC2 last night until about 2:00 am.

Ricco-Warrior5519d ago

the last time was when the ps3 couldn't find february 29

evilmonkey5015519d ago

I remember that day...That was the one day off I had that week.

Lirky5519d ago

I have a feeling E3 2011...
Sony will announce and prepare for full-premium psn, and ps+ users would have the premium access already. If this happens due to ppl easily messing with the code or something then most likely sony will make it pay2play.

KyRo5519d ago

This will never happen until the PS4 arrives and even then I doubt we'll see it as expensive as the price XBL has. One of the major marketing campaigns for the PS3 was it's free online service so I highly doubt they'd go back on their word after the whole Other OS outrage.

the_best_player5519d ago

Why pay to use for your internet 2 times lol.
Even STEAM is better than xbl and it's FREE.

thekiddfran5519d ago

It could be paving the way for update 4.0 which might be announced at e3.

Urrakia345519d ago

why in the world would they announce a firmware update at e3?

Trevonn5519d ago Show
thereapersson5519d ago

If it has enough worthwhile features, it might be worth it. I doubt it would be right at E3 though; most likely right before.

thekiddfran5519d ago

@Urrakia Haha I love people who are not with the times.

montyburns0005519d ago

why would service outages be related to an update? if it was, welcome to the shittiest online service available today.

Hawth0rne5519d ago

ok what exactly does this mean more problems.... I thought this might just be routine work but it dont seem that way anymore....I know they cant just come out and tell us whats going on especialy if it is anons again but couldnt we get a little more info then that.

Looks like PlayStation took a hit with Marathon and is now quietly adjusting prices worldwide to recover the losses

andy8534d ago

Lets be honest raising prices doesn't do that when no one's buying it. I imagine the profit it greater selling 10 times more at a lower price

Pergele33d ago

Whatever you say buddy, let's all wear the tinfoil hats.

IceKoldKilla33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

LMFAO Your comment alone says a lot more about you than anything else. When has one game not selling 10 million copies made a company raise the prices of their console? Then Xbox would be costing $5000 by now lol. You remind of the crazy drug addicts on the street rambling on about conspiracies. xD You sure you don't need a hug, buddy?

ChunkyMonk33d ago

One game that Sony payed $200 million for. lol
Also, you sure were quick to get triggered. Maybe your the one who needs a hug?

Eonjay33d ago

If nothing else, we should be united against the real issue here. AI and unnecessary tariffs that are effecting all gamers.

Athlon10134d ago (Edited 34d ago )

The price increases are due to the RAM demand associated with AI and the US-Iran war. You can look to any business news website and local news to see that. Heck, even the 2026 Asus Zenbook Duo I've been eyeing has faced delays and has had a price increase of $400; that laptop has two specs. Asus is doing a staggered release with per-orders for the lower spec now and shipping in May and pre-orders for the higher spec that I'm eyeing starting in June. Basically, all computer manufactures are affected. It'll most likely start affecting smart phones too if it hasn't already. I can't remember the last time any major console maker (Nintendo, Sony, Sega, etc) increased the price of their console mid cycle outside of Microsoft just to make more profit.

S2Killinit33d ago

Its not the war. Its the RAM issue.

jznrpg33d ago

War is causing gas prices to rise. Transport of everything requires gas so the prices of those items go up as well. So it does have an impact

Athlon10133d ago (Edited 33d ago )

The blockage of the Straight of Hormuz due to the US-Iran war has affected raw components used in semi-conductor manufacturing such as bromine, aluminum, and helium. Iran had attacked the liquified natural gas (LNG) plant in Qatar which is a large producer (1/3 globally) of helium which is used in semiconductor etching. So it's the both the war and the RAM crises.

badz14933d ago

Oh no...should I get the Pro now before the price increase?

I dont think that'll ever happen. But i must say back in the day, they were definitely trying because they were more cash rich than their competitors.

CosmicTurtle46d ago

I think MS were and still are the richer company. They tried to acquire Sega back in the day (and considered doing so again more recently), they obviously bought exclusivity to Halo which was originally shown as a Mac title. I don’t think as a company MS can claim the moral high ground here. It’s a wilful lack of self awareness.

Of course Sony would try exactly the same if they had the resources, but when the PS2 dominated the industry was in a much healthier place with an abundance of great third parties.

This has been a depressing generation as far as first party decisions are concerned. The fact we are debating business plans rather than which game is better is a sad reflection of the state of things.

Darkseeker47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

There was Nintendo as well, Sony wouldn't have had a monopoly. In fact, the world would be better today if Xbox never existed in the first place. They pretty much brought all bad practices we have today. We might have gotten all of it either way, but not this early. In term of franchises, I don't think there is anything Microsoft released that would actually be missed if it didn't exist. Even Halo the world wouldn't notice if Halo didn't exist.

S2Killinit46d ago

MS was definitely a bad influence on gaming.

raWfodog47d ago

I think almost everyone will agree that a monopoly is not good for the industry. But that being said, the competition needs to be smart and strategic with their business. Simply buying up publishers and traditional third-party studios just to keep them out of the other companies reach is not a sustainable practice. That goes for all parties so don't think I'm just referring to Xbox.

I'm no business guru by any stretch of the imagination but I firmly believe that the best way to drive consumers to your software and hardware is to invest smart in your first-party studios. Give them full support and guidance in making unique, fun games that are only available to play in your ecosystem and the gamers will come.

Reaper22_47d ago (Edited 47d ago )

But first party studios aren't enough. They only make up a small portion of the industry. Without 3rd party there would be no industry for Microsoft or sony.Developing games take time and money and sometimes you gotta make moves to stay competitive.

raWfodog47d ago

Nah, I never said first-party was enough. I said it’s the ‘best way’ to drive gamers to your platform. 3rd-party is a free-for-all and there’s no guarantee that gamers will use your hardware to play the game. If you want to push your own software and/or hardware you need first-party, or at least exclusive deals with third-party studios.

SimpleDad47d ago

They Shure did a great job... 25 years later Xbox is dead.

Reaper22_47d ago

Then why be so emotional and continue to talk about it. Xbox will never die be ause it stays in so many people's head.

lodossrage47d ago

How can you even see him being "emotional" in that comment?

If anything, you're the emotional one, constantly trying to go at anyone that says anything against Microsoft. So when you call him emotional, it comes off as deflection

Elda46d ago

I own an XBSX & I can say it's becoming irrelevant out of the 3 current consoles.
