
EuroGamer - The PlayStation 3 version of fighting game Mortal Kombat – out this week – includes God of War star Kratos as an exclusive playable character. Xbox 360 owners, however, do not get an exclusive character. Why?
The answer is shrouded in mystery.
"Unfortunately, the circumstances didn't allow us to make a 360 exclusive," was all Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon could say when quizzed by Eurogamer.

A brutal reset, a smarter story, and a return to what made it great—Mortal Kombat (2011) revived the series.

I do hope the next MK iteration goes back to the core of what made these characters appeal in the first place. A few of them lost their edge - I think I've had enough with some of the auntie designs 😂

Unfortunately all of Microsoft's best characters have the handicap of not being able to leave their chest-high wall cover.
It might have something to do with the Sony deal.
I remember MS paid Capcom to NOT put Dead Rising 1 on the PS3.
It's the same with timed exclusives too - companies can pay developers for extra content but also pay to have the content delayed or not included on a rival console. It's all about the money.
So yeah, Sony may have let MK use Kratos so long as there was no equivalent on the x360 - that could've been part of the deal.
