Wonder what sorta power will be under the hood of this thing.

Pacman3215512d ago

I wonder if there going to use motion control or standard controllers.

tigertron5512d ago

Probably not much, as Nintendo's focus is more on gameplay, rather than graphics and physics etc.

I expect something in between the Wii and the PS3 in terms of power, but I could be wrong. I would like Nintendo to release a console that will rival the PS4 and the Xbox 3, in terms of hardware and features.

GodsHand5512d ago

I just had to laugh at the comment of being in between the Wii and a PS3.

That is a pretty safe bet there. I can't recall Nintendo every releasing a console that did not surpass the previous one. But I could be wrong.

"Probably not much, as Nintendo's focus is more on gameplay, rather than graphics and physics etc."

lol more like they are taking the CHEAPEST path with the biggest profit margin from the get go! tbh, I can't see it changing anytime soon.

Its Gonna Have The Power Similiar To Xbox 360 Then Xbox 480 & PS4 Will Release & Then Straight Away Its Going To Be Obsolete

dabri55512d ago

Initial reports are saying it will be more powerful than either 360 and PS3.

ProjectVulcan5512d ago (Edited 5512d ago )

Be relatively easy and not particularly expensive to create a machine 3 or 4 times more powerful then PS3 and 360. Even cramming in something like a radeon 5750 class GPU would provide considerable more performance for little cost- assuming nintendo compete @ 720p.

Of course, that would not actually compete with a cutting edge successor to PS3 and 360 in 18 months, if you expect them to use a high end GPU of the time, and deliver native 1080p games.

This strategy would give nintendo the most powerful machine, but it would only be a matter of time before it were overtaken by far faster sony and microsoft hardware. In that time however, people may be tempted to jump to a new nintendo machine to get better versions of multiformat games- similarly to how dreamcast arrived early. Dreamcast was fairly eye catching because it vastly outpowered Playstation games of the time. It failed however- mainly because people knew that PS2 was just around the corner and they waited...

Just imagine for example, a new nintendo platform getting a version of Battlefield 3 far closer to the full fat PC one than the cut down console one on PS3 and 360. That would draw the eye of a fair few early adopters, one could imagine.

well it should be more powerfull than the current that should be normal, but then sony or microsoft will release another one more powerfull, rinse and repeat.

Peaceful_Jelly5512d ago

Wii is hardly more powerful than a 10 years old PS2... Just saying.

gamingdroid5512d ago

If Nintendo announces a new console this summer for 2012, expect MS to follow.

Sony, I'm not sure. They have been talking about their ten year plan and that the PS3 is just hitting it's "stride". They are also likely to recouped their cost to start a new cycle, but they might be forced to because PS3 sells because it is considered top of the line technology as a console, but it wont' be that anymore with Wii HD.

RememberThe3575512d ago

MS wont bite. Kinect is too successful, there isn't a need. All MS would need is support Kinect with killer software. I don't think investors would be happy with MS putting out a new system. Maybe we'll see Nintendo in 2012, MS in 2013 and Sony in 2014.

cemelc5512d ago (Edited 5512d ago )

@RememberThe357

Kinect could be used in xbox 720 you know? is not like its attached or anything.

And they could make the 720 backward compatible, not saying that it would happend in this E3 but the next one for sure.

gamingdroid5512d ago (Edited 5512d ago )

Why wouldn't investors be happy?

The division might not be posting numbers like the rest of MS' OS business, but it surely is very profitable. In fact the Xbox division is the most profitable within their Entertainment and Device Division.

The only costly factor was RROD, but that was an act of poor management from executives, not a factor of the business model.

That said, Xbox is now a huge brand name something it wasn't previously. Investment into a successful business is just a smart decision.

Investors would be very happy!

Kinect can still co-exist with Xbox 720. Make it full backwards compatible with the Xbox 360. Heck release a higher spec Kinect that is also backwards compatible after a few more years. Problem solved....

plb5512d ago (Edited 5512d ago )

Even if it is more powerful it's likely going to be catered to casuals yet again so it's hard to me to get excited about. I understand many people like that sort of thing but I'm not one of them.

xc7x5512d ago

i don't think they're going to get away with that [all casual gaming] again because things are changing in gaming, gamers want more complexity and the tech in the system will be better to do more complex activites. the games will cost more too so they'll want the most from a game than ever before.

plb5512d ago (Edited 5512d ago )

Maybe you're right but I don't know. I mean look how well the Wii sold. You think Nintendo would just toss all that out the window? When you think Nintendo you think Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong etc. You don't think hardcore games like on PS3/360. The only Nintendo systems I ever really cared for were the NES, SNES, and only a few games on N64... everything else never really interested me but I can understand how it appeals to many others. Well there is always the possibility that it's able to handle 3rd party multiplats that are also on 360/PS3 at least. BTW it says late 2012 release so that is a ways off.

StanSmith5512d ago (Edited 5512d ago )

"When you think Nintendo you think Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong etc. You don't think hardcore games like on PS3/360."

Not trying to be an ass here but i seem to have missed the memo about these titles. When was it decided that these were casual games? If these are casual games, then Ratchet & Clank, Jak and Daxter & Sly Cooper must be casual too. You seem to imply that anything with colourful worlds and cartoon characters are casual titles which really only leaves Shooters as "hardcore".

eagle215512d ago

when i think of Nintendo, i think of perfection in game design and iconic game franchises...you can think whatever the hell you want. Nintendo FTW! :)

gamingdroid5512d ago

Actually, I think this time it will cater to both hardcore and casuals. The reason Wii didn't cater to hardcore is simply because of lack of online gaming and graphics.

Once those two issues are fixed, the software will come.

Question is, will they shot themselves in the foot again by doing Friend Codes? That is Nintendo's biggest challenge, building a gaming network. They got everything else covered!

xc7x5512d ago

i think Nintendo has to change tactics this time, sure they're are known for the casual market but it can't carry them like it did with Wii this next time, they'll have to be a bit more creative this time. i believe maturity in gaming is returning (although it's hard to see it now) and Nintendo don't want to be caught not being able to keep up tech wise like they were with Wii and just higher definition won't cut it either i.m.o.

xc7x5512d ago

i'm guessing just slighlty more [or on par] with current systems [PS3 / 360] power like how Wii was with Xbox1 / PS2. Nintendo seem to think less is better tech wise but who knows, maybe they're thinking bigger this time?

Convas5512d ago

Maybe this time, Ninty will give us a console based Pokemon?

RememberThe3575512d ago

lol thats the first thing that comes to your mind? Pokemon?

Redempteur5512d ago

many people are asking for a real pokemon game on consoles since ..Ages ...

U.S. patent examiner rejects Nintendo’s summoning characters patent as obvious: non-final ruling

The rejection is non-final (and even when such rejections are labeled as “final”, the process is far from over, given that there can be, at minimum, an appeal to the Federal Circuit).

Good, as they should! A game mechanic like that shouldn't be locked behind a patent, and Nintendo didn't invent it either.

PRIMORDUS45d ago (Edited 45d ago )

Nintendo wants to keep wasting money on bullshit lawsuits, real smart in this economy. They should put that money aside for other game projects. On the other hand, I don't care if they waste it all either, and they are screwed in the future maybe that will teach them a lesson.

Nintendo Suing U.S. Government Over Tariffs

The fact that you have ANY disagrees will forever baffle me. And to the (apparent) MAGA contingent that exists on this website, enjoy your 8-9 dollar gas.

AuraAbjure70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Yes, they had better be pissed after Trump told them the way they rip off the USA is over.

EveryPlatformGamer71d ago

LOL I read this on gaff, will they refund the money back to the gamers? highly unlikely. Didn't they just raise prices and pass it onto the gamers? Only Nintendo would send out the Ninjas to the US government.

-Foxtrot71d ago

That’s what I was thinking, imagine them winning hypothetically, getting a s**t load of money back which they would have lost if they hadn’t raised their prices and it’s business as normal.

It would just mean people paid more for no reason since they got the money back anyway.

Outside_ofthe_Box70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

A lot of companies partially passed the cost to consumers instead of all of it. They would still have to at least pay that back to gamers, but we know that won't happen. What's also sad is that prices won't come back down after the initial hike caused by tariffs.

People didn't understand the full repercussions of tariffs. That alone should have cost him the presidency if people knew it was a permanent price hike for consumers

Inverno71d ago

The people should sue these companies for having to over pay cause of these tariffs.

Eonjay71d ago

Naw they should sue the government for forcing the tax to begin with. No one reasonably expects these companies to absorb the taxes. Many smaller companies tried and were shut down or faced to increase prices to try to maintain their business. The tariffs effect everyone.

Inverno69d ago

I meant it mostly as a joke cause we all know the costs of these tariffs were passed onto the consumer. But it's seems no matter how vocal we are here in the states our "representatives" don't seem to care enough to represent us. And things are about to get worse.

Killer2020UK70d ago

The companies were doing what the law required then to do, the tariffs however were illegally implemented. Usually it's criminals we punish, you seem to have different ideas 🤷‍♂️
